This is a typical Saturday morning coffee with Pierre and some NS members. This time (as is often the case), we do not chit-chat, or discuss philosophy per se, but explore more dreams (and their philosophical ramifications).
Eldar and Josh explore dreams with Pierre. Eldar's is a longer exploration than we normally alot to a dream, and this is nice, because we are interested in seeing how -- once the core message is deciphered -- we can go back and see where every other aspect of the dream adds an additional needed aspect to this core message, or reflects or contrasts a supporting message.
Eldar’s dream
I’m walking into a bar with some friends, Ghandy [not the famous one] is with us as well. We’re talking as we’re walking in. Some of us kind of stop in the foyer area for a while. We talk about the place and what the night is gonna be like. It looks like we’re gonna have fun.
I’m a tiny bit nervous because of the fact that I haven’t hang out with most of these people before, and also because there are a couple of people in the group who I think are really interesting and I would really love to connect with them. For the most part I’m excited and interested.
As we’re leaving the foyer and moving inside the establishment I notice that some of the group are leaving some stuff on a countertop, but I don’t say anything because I figure they’ll come back for it, it’ll be fine. So now we’re walking into a room that we’re gonna be spending time in, but then I go back to check on another couple of friends: Jennifer and Marlin. I go outside the bar to get them. As we’re walking back in, Marlin is saying something like “Oh, this place looks bigger than expected.” I’m like “Yeah, it has a weird shape, there are some back rooms and stuff.” addressing Jennifer I’m like “Oh by the way, those are your keys over there.” (Ghandy, her brother’s, keys) she looks and recognizes them “Oh yeah!” So then I’m leading them to where the rest of the group is, which is kind of a back room of the place. We’re walking through and past other people as the bar is filling up.
We get there and our group has a big table that we’re all gonna be sitting at and having dinner. I pick a spot near Kong. We talk a little bit about the food that we’re ordering and I’m a little bit surprised by Kong’s shyness, or that he’s a little bit reserved, because I know him so well from his videos. I realize that he finds me interesting which I think is funny because that’s how I felt about him. So now I’m surprised that he’s more shy than me. Kong and I share a joke. Then I’m passing the menu to somebody across the table, and while talking about food I make a joke to that person like “A little less pepper, a little more action!” (a song reference). Kong is smiling and he’s like “Oh, so you’re Australian and you like Michael Jackson!” I’m like “Elvis Presley, but yeah!”
We’re talking a little bit about politics and also then somebody says something about the IRS and about another agency. I ask what those agencies are about. They explain it kind of jokingly. The somebody’s talking about something they saw in the news and it’s about the sun. They sun that the sun has gotten hotter in the past few days, there’s been a climate change. I’m thinking “Oh yeah, it has been hotter” I’m thinking I might have to explain how I don’t watch the news and then I’m thinking about how I went to the beach the other day with this girl and yes, the sun was very piercing even when I was swimming underwater. I think about mentioning that, but I pull back because I’m thinking that I don’t wanna be playing that game where I try to make myself look like a playa.
Josh's Dream

(Non dream at 11 pm at night) I am reading the meno and I am thinking about how Socrates is giving the rules of dialogue in the Meno and I am seeing how he is employing those rules throughout the dialogue, I am seeing examples of this, remembering exact moments. I'm also seeing examples of how Socrates relates to meno when me no breaks his rules, how Socrates names these moments , how he names and labels meno.
Dream. All of a sudden I am at the Belly Up with Phil Simpkin and he says, oh wait, I am not at the Belly Up, it's like I'm there but I'm not there. I see Phil Simpkin and he meets this young man in his early 20s and he says, “is Josh or Mr. Bean here? Phil says “no he's not here tonight, he couldn't make it.” The young man says “ahhh, I really wanted to see him”. Phil says , “oh yeah, why so?” He says “he really taught me a way of reflecting and a way of learning and using my mind that opened me up on how to think for myself”. As I'm watching the scene, I am kind proud of what I'm hearing and seeing . Although I'm not there it's like I am remotely viewing, seeing it from far off.
Then I kind a wake up and realize I am dreaming but I fell back to sleep almost immediately and the scene changes. I look again and the young man is in something like a uniform, it seems like his facial expression has changed . It is like he is almost a different person. It is like he is now wearing a jumpsuit. The jumpsuit is military like, his face is more ominous, and I was wondering if he had brought a weapon or had come to beat me up or harm me in someway. But then in the vision I wondered and asked myself, is that really true? Did I see that or is it the first scene that I saw?
Then I woke up and realized I was dreaming.
