This 1945 newsreel shows the final stages of World War II in Europe with American, British, Russian and allied forces descending upon the German heartland. The seizure of Cologne is shown and the capture of the Rhine bridge (the Lundendorff Bridge) at Remagan. The British, Canadian and American armies cross the Rhine (accompanied in this film by Churchill, who made a visit to the front) and the Western Front begins to collapse. Rocket launchers are used in action by the United States. Concentration camps are discovered and liberated, and General Eisenhower and General Patton visit some of the "death camps". Meanwhile the Russians drive from their bridgehead towards Berlin, led by Marshall Zuhkov. The American and Russian armies link up at the Elbe River. In Nuremberg, the swastika -- symbol of Nazi Germany -- is destroyed with dynamite. Berlin becomes a total wreck as the Russians storm the city. Mussolini is murdered by a firing squad, and Adolph Hitler commits suicide. The greatest European war in human history is finished.
