Made in the wake of the Prague Spring, WE BORDER TROOPS is a Soviet film directed at the members of the Soviet Army who are tasked with defending the nation's borders — and presumably stopping those who would like to flee the great socialist nation. This film presents a kinder, gentler look at Soviet border guards, who stop to speak to mothers and grandmothers. The Soviet Coast Guard is seen at the 3 minute mark, conducting a full scramble and deploying radios and attack dogs. At the 5 minute mark, the alarm has spread to other members of the armed forces and a full-scale military exercise with live fire is shown. The film also includes some great scenes such as sailors dancing in a disco at the 7:15 mark.
Anyone out there who speaks Russian is encouraged to add some translation to the film!
