Made in 1948, LETTER FROM AMERICA Film was ostensibly created to celebrate Goodyear Tire and Rubber's Golden Anniversary. The real goal of the film however, was to promote the company's anti-union agenda, and the Cold War ideals of capitalism and economic opportunity. The story begins with a letter, written by an immigrant worker named Karl to his family behind the Iron Curtain, that describes the American way of life and the opportunities pro- vided by his employer, Goodyear. Flashbacks show the worker’s arrival in America, his experience with the American democratic system, and his success at Goodyear. He explains that because many workers are also corporate shareholders, there is no longer a gap between capital and labor. This film received a Freedom Foundation award in 1950.
