Another rare Slavin Balen 'Electro-Funk Premijera' radio show digitized from my old tapes. This one is from December 19, 1986 i was only 11 years old but was glued to his show every week. Balen drops his favorite Kurtis Mantronik, T La Rock & Omar Santana's amazing 'Breaking Bells', goes into the label-mate Tricky Tee 'I've Got It Good' produced by young Sam Sever, who later became a producer for 3rd Bass and member of Def Jam's Downtown Science. He finishes off the show with UTFO's 'Split...

Classic hip-hop recorded live at the Audubon Ballroom (or as this tape was labeled, the "Autobonne Ballroom") featuring legends Grandwizard Theodore, Kevie Kev (Waterbed), Dotta Rock, Kool DJ AJ & Busy Bee, and Grandmaster Caz. Probably recorded in March 1981, as Grandwizard Theodore's birthday is mentioned, which is March 5th.

Tape 39 of my collection of Mastermind Street Jam radio shows features three different episodes mashed onto one cassette. Once again, I apologize for the abridged nature of this one. If I knew I was preserving Canadian hip-hop mixshow history, I would have recorded the programs in full. I just wanted a dope tape to rock in my Walkman. I tried to squeeze both the Monday night and Tuesday night edition of the Mastermind Street Jam on one 90 minute cassette. I hoped for no repeats. I couldn’t quite fit both shows on, but this gave me more music to listen to in my Walkman back in the day. And that was my mission. It wasn’t to preserve the shows. I wish it was and I hadn’t cut stuff out, but these shows still bang, even if they are truncated a bit. Original air date – January 15 & 16, 1996. - DJ Chase March

This is number 41 in Flush's series of radio tapes. This one features recordings from Power 99 in Philadelphia and a KISS-FM Mastermix from New York City. It is likely from 1986 (with some of Side B possibly from 1987). There's a fantastic Power 99/Lady B/Street Beat ID by Philly's own Ice Cream Tee on side B. It's followed by two other rarities well worth checking out. Side A Funky Beat... Whodini Hold It Now, Hit It... Beastie Boys Sex Machine... Fat Boys Put That Record Back On... Just-Ice...

Regrettably there’s not much to write home about on this one, and please excuse the hiss but I just couldn't shake it. Found this random tape in my collection that I seemed to have put together in 1994 on my cassette 4-track. It's not terribly complicated or anything, but is a solid listen to what was grabbing my ear before I headed off to college. It looks like I only used two tracks (so this tape is mono). I have only the vaguest recollections of working on it and don't recall if I ever had the intention of releasing it or not. It holds up pretty well. Also stream...

This Flush tape is most notable for the live L.L. Cool J set, which appears to be different from the one on Flush 39. Hearing a young James Todd go off reminds us how powerful he was when he came on the theme. Music here is from the mid-1980s, likely recorded from Philadelphia radio (Power 99 and WDAS).

This "Top 10 At 10" is from August 1995... Obviously there was a lot of great music dropping back then but the thing that really time-stamps the era is the banter between the songs - there's a lot of "keep it real," "represent" and "no diggedy," because that's how Rap People spoke back then... Track List Notorious BIG – One More Chance (Stay With Me) Junior MAFIA – Player’s Anthem Method Man – The Riddler Luniz – I Got 5 On It AZ – Sugarhill...

This is a recording of the low-power FM station (89.3 FM) at the classic Mahoning Drive-In theater from May 29, 2021, part of Zombie-Fest VII weekend. On tap that night: Lucio Fulci's Zombie , Raw Force , and I Walked With a Zombie . This represents about 30 minutes of banter and doesn't include the music or any of the actual movies or trailers. Making this one extra-special, though, is that there was a marriage proposal! This was recorded on a Samsung S8 with Hi-Q Recorder while using...

The previous night's episode marked the first time the show aired in its new time slot. Instead of a two-hour long show once a week, the program was split into two and ran Monday and Tuesday nights at midnight. This episode is the second hour of the program for the week. I had to stay up late just to hit record. Once the tape was set in motion, I was free to go to bed. I knew I could count on some great hip-hop the following day and for many years to come. - DJ Chase March

This series of recordings from Philadelphia radio in the mid-80s includes hip-hop, electro, pop, and R&B. Likely from January 1986 because of a reference to Super Sunday by Lady B at the end of side B.

This 12th tape in the DJ Flush Collection, a collection of recordings mostly from Philadelphia radio, features Paul Hardcastle (19 tends to pop up often in the early Flush tapes) and some electro and mid-80s hip-hop. Side B not included since it seems to be just a tape of a 12". Side A 19 (12" Version)... Paul Hardcastle 19 (Destruction Mix)... Paul Hardcastle ? Home of Hip Hop... GrandMixer D.ST Side B (not included) tracks from The Show/La Di Da Di 12"

Another tape from Flush's collection, recorded off of Philadelphia radio (usually WDAS and Power 99) in the mid-1980s. This tape features Roxanne Shanté, Ultimate 3 MCs, Davy DMX, Newcleus, and more. It is probably from 1985.

This was the first episode of the show in its new time slot: Mondays and Tuesdays at 12:00 a.m. Midnight. The two hour format on Saturdays was excellent. This late night burial slot, not so much. I would often just get the tape started and go to sleep so I could catch the show the following day. - DJ Chase March

Early hip-hop, electro, R&B, and funk from the mid-80s, sourced around 1985 mainly from Philadelphia stations WDAS and Power 99. (The tape itself is covered in silver marker paint and not labeled with a number, but based on the case, music inlcuded, and type of tape used, it is assumed that this is number 8 in the series.)

Beach sounds recorded at Martin St beach in Kill Devil Hills, NC on Thursday May 20, 2021, starting at 8:11am. Recorded with a Samsung Galaxy S8 (didn't bring my portable Tascam). This is first tape in my collection that I attempted to do a tracklisting for. As you can see , I wrote the artist and song titles down on a napkin. I was working at a fast food joint at the time so I used what I had on hand. It was so cool that I was able to listen to my cassettes while I worked. I loved that part of the job. It’s interesting to me that I wrote the tracklist in cursive writing on a napkin and never transferred it to the j-card. I also taped over my Best of Tiffany mixtape....

House music via the Future Rhythms show, which aired on WMCX 88.9FM in West Long Branch, NJ from Monmouth University. The host's name sounds like it might be "Mike Out." (Date is an estimate based on the songs played. Not sure which side goes first - was recorded over a Madsounds promo tape labeled "Side O" and "Side X." Based on the talking, it sounds like Side O was from earlier in the evening.)
