This is a fresh capture of the first Quake movie, arguably (therefore) the first example of what later came to be called Machinima. This was captured on the occasion of the (nearly) 20th anniversary of the release of Diary of a Camper. It was captured using WinQuake v. 1.09 at 800x600 resolution. The video records loading of the demo file (also provided here), so that the process of demo playback is visible. For more information about this title, see the earlier upload to the Machinima...

"Machinima and real-time animation is an art form and more, it is a great storytelling genre. The ability to screen capture what is in a virtual 360 degree environment makes a lot possible for us as film and video makers. Using the Second Life engine as our animation platform means we utilize every nuance we can to craft our films. Public Safety and Health concerns are also our concerns, as parents and citizens. We have just finished working on a project which is our first Public Service...

The Rangers' "Diary of a Camper" (1996) is considered the first complete work of machinima (then known as Quake movies). Here is a snippet from my (HEL) "High-Performance Play: The Making of Machinima," which covers the early history of this medium: "Arguably the most famous clan of all, the Rangers’ top-notch players contributed visibly to the technical community that grew around the game. They had participated in the first pre-release test of the Quake engine...

The Nogg-aholics were a "community" of WoW players called the Nogg-aholic Collaboration (NAC). During their halcyon days, from 7 Jan. 2006 to 7. Jan 2007, they gathered instead around an information resource, the Nogg-aholic Forum, and a collaborative machinima project, "My Burning Valentine." Led by prominent WoW explorers such as Dopefish, Malu05 and Snoman, this group of players applied their "leet skills" to "explore the unexplored," a motto affixed...

"The history of multiplayer game worlds and virtual realities can be told with reference to a variety of documentary sources. Players find the most compelling "proof" of a memorable event or claimed exploit in visual documentation captured from actual gameplay: Screenshots or, even better, video recordings of the actual events. "Game Capture" glimpses moments from multiplayer games and virtual worlds through screenshots and video grabbed (and sometimes edited) by and...

Video capture from the third day, 11 May 2008, of "Convergence of the Real and the Virtual," The First Scientific Conference in World of Warcraft. "This is a scientific conference to be held May 9-11, 2008, inside World of Warcraft, devoted to research on WoW and on virtual worlds in general. It was proposed by John Bohannon, who creates the Gonzo Scientist feature for the AAAS journal Science. The organizer is William Sims Bainbridge, a social and information scientist, whose...

Baron Soosdon in a more conventional mode of WoW machinima than usual, without model or map viewer or heavy post-production editing. The tricks in the video were made through the use of a private server. -- HEL "Sunday, June 3, 2007 012 - The making of "Shake That! Here's how it went: 1) Target NPC 2) .emote 10 3) Point & Shoot 4) Edit! All done in one day. No modelviewing at all - private server / emulator FTW in machinimation! An example of "serious machinima," in this case a student project using machinima to present information about the Holocaust. Directed, produced, written, narrated and edited by ExAnubisLeader (Blake Klampert). "This was a project I did for an english class. I received an A. A main reason I did this was to show that not all class projects have to be boring and we don't always have to use a poster board." -- ExAnubisLeader (Blake Klampert), via YouTube's machinima.com...

Video capture from gathering before first day, 9 May 2008, of "Convergence of the Real and the Virtual," The First Scientific Conference in World of Warcraft These are test files. The video was captured just as the conference group was beginning to gather. NB. The file whose filename suggests a .divx encoding is in fact a .wmv file. "A tribute to Dopefish and the Nogg-aholic community. This video shows what can be done with the proper knowledge of the World of Warcraft data. Unlike many others who just make random model changes that look weird, I have tried to make mine as authentic looking as possible; as if they were made to be in the game. Wandering Dreamscape showcases 17 model changes. These have been edited together into three separate songs; each with it's own theme and story. I have tried to make it as...

"A short movie showing my first model change for WoW, entitled "The Barrens Biohazard". Sometime in the creation process I managed to fuck up the files and kinda lost interest to the project. But gladly Snoman rescued it and here is the end result! You can see more TBB at Snomans movie "Wandering Dreamscape" and in my upcoming movie "Unlimited Escapism vol. 0" which is scheduled to be released in mid-august or early september (a.k.a. when it's done). No fancy...

A compilation of scenes originally distributed via the Ideazon website, with the text, 'Blizzard gave Myndflame a first look at the WoW expansion scheduled for 2008. Still in its early stages of development, this video is an exclusive sneak peak which we swore blood oaths we'd never show to the public. "Here is my interpretation of the model changes done by Snoman. You saw all of these at his movie, Wandering Dreamscape. As an interesting looking side effect, the "Eastern Lordaeron" model change affected the undead starting areas as well. Snoman did not show that in his movie so click that play button to see it. Olibith is once again making a short guest appearance. And yes, this movie is just wandering around plus zoom-ins and zoom-outs. If that is not your thing, do not even...

"NOTE! I have only edited and filmed this movie. All the model/map changing has been done by Snoman. If you have any questions about the changed maps, point them to Snoman. And yes, I have Snoman's permission to publish this movie. About the movie: When I first saw those Snomans (and Dopefish's) movies, I was liek whoa. That was cool! Then I realized that I want something like that on UEv2. So I asked Snoman and he was kind to give me all of the files concerning his previous work. After a...

"Here it finally is - after two weeks of editing, rendering, testing, saving, crashing, fixing, sleeping and a little wow playing almost every day. The whole movie is done with WoWmodelviewer and WoWmapviewer - though there is one short scene where i use in-game material. I plan to release "Operation Scholomance" as a three-part series - so this first one could be called a pilot episode. I already have plans in my head for a "season two" but that is far, far away from...
