Recorded on a cold January Sunday afternoon, one of those days in North Conway, New Hampshire where you may have just returned back from a day of skiing on the slopes, or snowshoeing some wooded trails.  The sun's setting early this time of year, so maybe it's time for a fire in the woodstove along with some food and beverages.  This is when you flip on the radio for some background entertainment and local radio station WMWV, a local mainstay comes alive with their always eclectic mix of...

I'm so happy to share this real slice of small town radio from WMWV-FM in North Conway, NH.  I recorded this slice of radio history on a cold Sunday morning, January 28, 1996 starting just after the news.  I recorded Skip's show two Sundays in a row back in 1996.  I came across this "lost" show recently (after uploading his Jan 21st show a year sgo), But since we lost Skip at a great ripe age of 95 last week (August 5th), he was local legend here in the Mount Washington Valley, so...

I'm so happy to share this real slice of small town radio from WMWV-FM in North Conway, NH.  I recorded this slice of radio history on a cold Sunday morning, January 21, 1996 starting at the 6am sign-on.   Skip Sherman is our morning host for the Sunday Morning Breakfast Show, a show that features big bands, ballads, jazz and swing along with AP & local news and the morning weather show at 7:50am (find it at 16:00 on Part 3) with a live weather report from the top of Mt Washington, NH...

This 40 minute aircheck of Arnie "Woo-Woo" Ginsburg was recorded between 11:20pm and midnight on Saturday, July 22, 1972.   This was a special "Grease" weekend that WBZ honored some of the old radio legends of the 1950s and 1960s.  Of course Woo-Woo Ginsburg was well know in the Boston area for his Night Train show that aired on Boston competitor WMEX in the 1960s. This aircheck is way too brief, but brings us up to the top of the midnight hour and the very beginning of...

Another favorite aircheck of mine, mainly because it brings back a time when everything seemed to be a little bit slower pace and we were "connected" in a real-life way.. Here's two 45-minute segments from Christmas Eve Day 1981. Boston's WBZ Radio 1030 is in the middle of the annual benefit holiday drive for the Boston Children's Hospital.  'BZ would park their mobile studio (a converted RV dubbed "The Incredible Broadcast Machine") at Downtown Crossing while busy shoppers...

There was a special "Grease" weekend in 1972 that WBZ Radio honored some of the old radio legends of the 1950s and 1960s. (There is several hours more from this weekend here on Archive.org at this link: Dick Biondi  and also at this link: Arnie Ginsburg This exhibit is a 46 minute aircheck of JJ Jeffrey followed by Arnie "Woo-Woo" Ginsburg. It was recorded between 8:33pm and 9:18pm on Sunday, July 23, 1972, towards the end of the Grease Weekend. Also I have added two...

Here is one more aircheck of WBZ Radio 1030 Boston during the 1983 Christmas holiday.  They are finishing up the 1983 annual live broadcast that WBZ radio did every Christmas Season for the benefit of Boston's Childrens Hospital.  It's the day before Christmas, Saturday, December 24, 1983, recorded 90 minutes (approx 3:30-5pm) off air on 2 sides of a cassette tape with a brief gap between the tape side change.  Barbara Howard is on duty in the newsroom back at the Soldier's Field Rd...

This aircheck of WBZ Radio 1030 Boston showcases some more live broadcasts that WBZ had every Christmas Season, some at Downtown Crossing and some at Faneuil Hall Marketplace.  Two days before Christmas, Friday, December 23, 1983 here's 1.5 hours (approx 9am-1030am) off air recorded onto 2 sides of a cassette tape with a brief gap between the tape side change. Diane Stern is just winding up the 9am news, she's followed by a full episode of Paul Harvey News and then  Dave Maynard is at the...

This aircheck is part of a "Trifecta" of storm-related airchecks. It's Friday, September 27, 1985, Hurricane Gloria is bearing down on the Southern New England coast,  I recorded 2-90 minute cassette tapes of Boston area radio stations: WMJX-FM, WBZ-AM and WBCN-FM spread over the morning hours (3 hours total out of a 6 hour period). Station #1 :  WMJX Magic 106.7 FM: "New England's largest Soft Rock Library", soft spoken and easy listening. There are two segments [approx...

This overnight aircheck of Dick Biondi was recorded between 12:15am and 6am on early Sunday morning, July 23, 1972.   This was a special "Grease" weekend that WBZ honored some of the old radio legends of the 1950s and 1960s.  Dick Biondi was well known in the Boston area (and his hometown station in Buffalo, NY) for his nightly broadcast on WKBW.  in addition to WKBW, clear channel WABC, WOWO and CKLW were all stations we listened to as teenagers, and Dick Biondi was well known in...
