Despite what I express in this episode, I don't actually have much animosity towards Denis Leary, I just don't find him especially interesting as an actor. But I never saw Rescue Me , so what do I know? Oh, this week we watched Demolition Man , the movie about the cryogenic prison that enables Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes to duke it out in a seemingly utopia future that hides a dark, Denis Leary-shaped secret. Pizza Hut or Taco Bell, who can tell them apart anyway? If you want to send...

Adam McKay and Will Ferrell were a legendary team, making five feature films, all of them hits (I think). Anyway, here at O.K. In the original Speed , a bus had to maintain a speed of 50 miles per hour lest it explode. In the sequel, Speed 2: Cruise Control,  a ship has been hacked to run at the speed of 18 knots, so about 21 miles per hour, two fifths of the speed of the original film, plus it is set in open water, which isn't exactly great at conveying motion. Welcome to the Seventh Batch of O.K. Video! We are taking a look at a selection of the many films associated with Stephen King. Ryan and Nathan kick things off with Dreamcatcher , a movie with a lot of assets and a bit of explaining to do.  Just an editor's note, we were experimenting with a new recording setup this episode and ran into some minor issues, so apologies if it sounds a bit funny compared to last week, we have since sorted it out. Sooner or later, every great franchise gets to outer space. Ryan and Nathan celebrate the tenth entry in the Friday the 13th series by capping off our look at Space Horror with Jason X . Here we go again! Despite a pretty conclusive ending, Ripley is back! Well, not quite Ripley as you knew her. That Ripley is dead. She died on Fiorina "Fury" 161. She died saving the universe. But that doesn't matter Alien movies make money so we need to make more. This time Ripley is actually a clone and more than that she's a hybrid human/alien. Some shady people in the future decide to clone her from a blood sample retrieved from her time on Fury 161. But they aren't interested in...

Before he was Groot or Dominic Toretto, Vin Diesel was Richard B. Riddick, the man who could see in the dark. What a perfect super power for him to have on a planet that becomes shrouded in a months long eclipse every 22 years, allowing the subterranean murder lizards to come to the surface and feast on whomever they may find. The movie is Pitch Black  and it is the seventh Space Horror film in O.K. Video's latest batch of movies. Thanks for joining us. If you want to email us, ryan@okvideo.ca...

2 Video Store Clerks. 1 Movie. 7 Razzie Nominations. 40 Million Dollars Down the Drain.  The Movie is  Driven  .The Clerks, Nathan and Ryan. The Razzies results, one win. The 40 Million Dollars were likely an exaggeration.  Welcome to Episode Two of our Franchise Pictures Batch, the movie studio that managed to populate much of the Bottom 100 list on IMDB before closing forever in 2007. This movie re-teams the  Cliffhanger  duo, Sylvester Stallone and Renny Harlin as they take a look at...

Welcome to Batch 2 of OK Video!  This batch focuses on selections from the Franchise Pictures catalog, a studio notorious for bad movies and malicious bookkeeping, resulting in lawsuits that shuttered the studio in 2007.  Our first film is FeardotCom, a tale of evil websites, vengeful spirits and domain name registration issues. Just in time for Halloween! This movie does fall under the "torture" sub-genre so some grim and morbid things come up in the discussion, but we try to focus...

That's it for Batch 1, Monster Movie Remakes. Nathan and Ryan organize this season's films in order of preference and discuss the relative pros and cons one last time.  Thanks for joining us for our first season at O.K. Video. We are working on batch 2 and hope to sort out the last headaches with podcast services before we start posting them, hopefully at most a couple of weeks. We tease the topic of batch 2 at the end of this week's episode. If you have any questions or suggestions send us an...

It’s the final movie of the first batch! Thanks for joining us for our inaugural season of O.K. Video.  This week we are looking at a posh costume drama directed by Stephen Frears, starring future Oscar Winner Julia Roberts, the inimitable John Malkovich, marble-voiced maestro Michael Gambon, and a puckish young Michael Sheen, amongst many other familiar faces. That’s right, Mary Reilly is our eight and final feature and in case you can’t tell from the title, this is Jekyll and Hyde for...

The Toast of the West End, Kenneth Branagh, directed a big, bold and certainly boisterous take on Mary Shelley's definitive work,  Frankenstein , back in 1994. Surely a film produced by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Robert De Niro, Ian Holm, Helen Bonham Carter and the aforementioned spiritual reconstitution of the Bard himself won the hearts of the Academy and all who saw it, but the O.K. Video guys will determine exactly how high it should rank in the hall of cinematic masterworks.  If you...

A Jack Nicholson passion project. A bizarre departure for Mike Nichols. Another "is this a remake?" for the O.K. Video staff to puzzle over,  Wolf  is a film that dances between genres and has a lot of strange 90s pleasures to fawn over.  Thanks for joining us again for our sixth episode in this batch of movies focusing on monster movies derived from older monster movies that happened to come out when we were young and impressionable.  I've had some struggles with podcatchers and...

Five, the magic number for RSS feeds. With any luck our humble little show will start to appear on podcast platforms in the near future.  For magic number five we get into this remake (or is it a sequel?) of the classic paranoid tale of invasion and body swapping, Abel Ferrara's severely underexposed  Body Snatchers . This movie barely saw the light of a projector's booth when it first came out in 1993 but thanks to video tapes and television, it eventually found an audience.  Don't listen...

Protect your neck and gird your loins, as we jump into the sensual and mesmerizing world of vampires! This week we are taking a look at Francis Ford Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula. This is the first bonafide hit we've covered on the show so far. Coppola takes us through a history lesson in film making to create this gorgeous film. As always if you have any questions you want answered on the show you can email us at either ryan@okvideo.ca or nathan@okvideo.ca. Until next time! -R
