Shot in the 1930s, this film profiles the United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), the military academy of the United States Coast Guard located in New London, Connecticut. The four year program offered by the Academy is described, and the various academy, athletic and other opportunities presented detailed. Footage of the U.S. Gunboat Panay in Nanking China during the Japanese offensive knows as "The Rape of Nanking." After evacuating foreign civilians, the Panay was attacked and sunk by Japanese aircraft. The so-called Panay Incident almost led to war between the United States and Japan. Also features footage of the warship USS Augusta (CA-31) which served as command ship for the Asiatic Fleet, and the Royal Navy's HMS Ladybird.
