The following comes from a participant in the Weelaunee Café, a short-lived kitchen that existed in Atlanta’s Weelaunee Forest in Fall/Winter 2022. The forest—stolen from the Muscogee Creek peoples before becoming a plantation & prison farm—is currently under threat, as the APD & real-estate mogul Ryan Millsap are trying to turn the land into part cop training ground & part largest-movie-soundstage-in-America. On the ground resistance has been ongoing since 2021, & police...

This zine is a transcript of a talk from 2007 by Cindy Barukh Milstein from the unSchooling Oppression Conference. The zine begins with a brief segment titled “why anarchism?” that situates the rest of the talk, with an emphasis on the notion that a key aspect of anarchism is educating ourselves and inspiring others to question the way things are. For anarchists, education reminds us things haven’t always been like this and gives past, present, and future examples of alternatives. It also...

This text looks at some of the tools available to the German state to analyze texts from radical groups in order to aid in political investigations. It explores modern forensic linguistics which can aid investigations by helping authorities determine who wrote a particular text. The techniques aren’t fool-proof or even always accurate, but the use to tie writers to particular communiques is something that should be considered. While discussing the situation in Germany, it is safe to assume...

This zine presents a collection of three critiques against livestreaming. In recent years, the phenenomenon of livestreaming protests has become common. Aside from the problematic voyeurism that it encourages, livestreaming has also facilitated the repression of participants. After every heavily documented riot or demonstration, police -- and often citizen snitches -- have gone over livestreams and other photos to identify individuals for prosecution. Do we gain anything other than increased...

Gunshot wounds are becoming more common at demonstrations. This is not to say you should panic—millions of people have participated in demonstrations over the past four months, while only dozens have been shot. Still, as political conflict escalates in the United States, it is important to think about how we can care for and protect each other. The good news is that even if you have no medical training, there are things you can do to maximize the likelihood that a person who is shot in your...

This zine explains how to cover your face in a protest situation. It recommends a simple t-shirt mask to conceal as much of your face as possible in order to prevent surveillance and repression. Spreading a practice of concealing one’s identity in protest situations is an excellent practice to help keep people safer. Regardless of whether or not you are doing anything deemed illegal by the state, masking up is always a best practice to avoid doxxing and harassment.

This zine is a comprehensive analysis of the 2017 protests against the G20 in Hamburg, Germany. The police attempted to use brute force to isolate and terrorize all who came to demonstrate against the G20, but in the process, they turned a large part of the population against them and the city spiraled out of control. The resulting protests were some of the largest seen in Europe in years. It is an inspiring example of resistance and while the context is different in North America, itâs...

Sub-titled âAnarchist organization, the Islamic State, the crisis, and outer spaceâ, this zine is a strong attempt to think through the many challenges that are facing anarchists in the present moment. As the world crumbles at an increasing pace, anarchists seem to be struggling to engage on this terrain, often succumbing to either a kind of self-isolating defeatist position or a vague populist position, neither of which are spreading anarchist practices. The zine tries to dissect the reasons...

This zine provides a basic introduction to herbalism alongside a collection of home remedies for common health problems. The information is organized into broad categories based on body parts (head, abdomen, etc) and then from there conditions and symptoms. Itâs easy to use and a good introduction into DIY healthcare. There is also a lengthy suggested resources section that recommends additional sources.

This zine is a critique of âinsurrectionalismâ as it was practiced in Barcelona circa 2014. While this may seem like a bit of an esoteric topic, the textâs critique raises a lot of questions that are worth considering for anarchists who identify with the insurrectionary current (and even those who donât). The discussion of repression and insurrectionary responses to it is particularly worthwhile, as its discussion of the limits of certain insurrectionary approaches and ideas. It has a...

Sub-titled âThree Narratives from Grand Jury Resistorsâ, this zine collects stories from three people who dealt with the consequences of a Grand Jury investigating their communities. These include 2 people who chose to resist the Grand Jury and chose not to cooperate (one went to jail and one went on the run) and a partner of the person who chose to go to jail rather than cooperate. Itâs a powerful set of stories that does an excellent job of exploring the human consequences of what happens...

In this article (originally published in LIES: A Journal of Materialist Feminism), Jackie Wang explores the ways in which the politics of innocence serves to limit social struggle. Particularly as it relates to police murders of black people, that one have the identity of an âinnocent victimâ is often assumed as pre-condition for resistance. People who are killed by police but who donât fit this role, are often ignored by liberal organizations and the public at large. But such appeals â...

Sub-titled âA History of Policing in Two Modesâ, this essay explores the historical origin of two important functions of the police: violent exclusion and the management of society. The essay explores the origins of policing in the slave patrols of the South, presenting a brief overview of the development of police as a system intended to implement racialized violence. The other half of the essay looks at the development of police in Great Britain, exploring the ways in which police were used...

The Ukrainian anarchist Maria Nikiforova played a prominent role in the Russian Revolutions of 1917 and the subsequent Civil War as an organizer, military commander, and terrorist. A revolutionary from the age of 16, she was on trial for her life on four separate occasions under three different regimes and was sentenced to death twice. Her exploits became the stuff of folklore. But she was âblacklistedâ by official historians and her story was lost for generations.

This zine is an exploration into the ways in which âlocalismâ is used to gloss over the negative aspects of contemporary capitalism. Most often, this is seen in the gentrification that is taking place in many mid to large-sized cities in the United States where boutique shops, breweries, and bistros are proliferating as part of a new âlocalâ economy.

This short zine collects two essays that seek to define gentrification and explore the displacement that come with it. While much of popular and even radical discourse focuses on simplistic definitions and formulas to determine what is and isnât gentrification, this text tries to bring in insights from academic writing on the topic and present it in a way that is easy to understand. Moreover, it attempts to add a measure of nuance that is often missing in these discussions with the hope that a...

This is a classic text of what is called âinsurrectionary anarchismâ â still as relevant as when it was written over a decade ago. Itâs a poetic and impassioned indictment of the existent and a call to chose life over a passive (and pacified) existence. In many circles, struggleâespecially for those who come from positions of varying degrees of privilegeâis often defined as something that must happen in relation to another group. Rather than just focusing on the particulars of social networking platformsâfor example on Facebookâs mining of personal dataâthis text explores how these networks embody the ideologies of capitalism, democracy, and citizenship. This zine celebrates seven years of prison noise demos in Southwestern Ontario. It features an essay recounting the history of the demonstrations and why they started, followed by a collection of communiques from demos that happened over the years. The zine does a good job of making the argument for why noise demos can be an important part of a larger anti-prison struggle. It also situates them in a context of international anarchist solidarity.

The zine examines the role anarchists played in organizing resistance to the G20 and the ways in which the state responded to this activity. While focusing on a specific case in Canada, it does present a clear picture in the ways states may respond in the future to those who organize resistance to political summits. The zine can help sharpen our...
