In this, considered to be the first Felix the Cat cartoon, Felix has yet to acquire his familiar name. He's called "Master Tom." In most other regards, the familiar personality is there, though not the casual surrealism that propels his later cartoons. Still, this cartoon is amusing with a surprisingly dark ending. The original, black and white Fleischer Screen Songs ended in 1938 and the sing-along idea remained mostly dormant until they where begun anew under the auspices of Famous Studios in December of 1947. But during that almost ten year period, a few "proto-Screen Songs" were released reviving and refining the formula. The first of these was "When G.I. Johnny Comes Home," released in 1945 marking the end of WWII.

In 1962, Roger Corman's Filmgroup released the 1953 Russian film "Sadko" in a slightly shortened, English dubbed version which was renamed "The Magic Voyage of Sinbad," presumably to cash in on the popularity of Harryhausen's "Seventh Voyage of Sinbad" of 1958. The dubbed version pretty much follows the structure of the Russian original with the only deletions being musical numbers. The English titles are pretty much completely phony with Anglicized names...
