A randomising programme was used to generate text by mixing up a series of great public speeches (Churchill, Lincoln, etc), poems and song lyrics (Beatles etc). Then the resulting text was put through an Apple Mac text-to-speech programme to create audio files with Apple's voices of many different nationalities (even though they were saying English words). Finally the spoken audio files were mixed with randomly chosen fragments of music and noises.
Topics: sound art, experimental

Art Bop. The idea is to create movies that work same way jazz works. Inspired by other movies. Make visual riffs while creating new stuff in the same idiom. Put a new little twist to the theme. To scat and riff in a similar way visually. Soundtrack inspired by György Ligeti. Thanks to rwhite at sharecg and Jack at Celestia Motherlode whose models I used and to Shukky who created the spacesuit. See the credits at the end of the movie for the software used. The soundtrack is here:...

Metropolis - Fritz Lang's film with a new soundtrack by Peter-David Smith. Of about seven billion people on the planet, one made an effort to create a new soundtrack for Metropolis. One person, working alone and without any funding, used a home PC and an electric guitar to create the audio and match it to scenes in the movie. Not only that but it's available for free download. This is an example of interactive web culture. Years ago it would've required an organisation like the BBC to rework...

A remix of Cory Doctorow singing "The Mock Turtle's Song" (also known as "The Lobster Quadrille") from Alice in Wonderland. This track from the album is under a different copyright than the rest of the album and the way Internet Archive is currently structured means I needed to upload it separately. The rest of the album is at: http://www.archive.org/details/AnAlternativeSteamAge This track is under a Creative Commons Attribution licence. As long as you attribute the singing...

The video clips come from the Open University and are under a Share Alike licence. I put them together in a style originated by Godfrey Reggio. "Life in a Blender" probably translates into the Hopi language as "coyinacatsuit" or something. The music is the title track from my album "Hergest Bells" which I made as an experiment in Mike Oldfield-ism.

I'm building this album up one track at a time. More tracks will follow. The tracks are made from a combination of original electric guitar and synth pieces together with spoken word pieces which I wrote for a blog called "My Subversions".

Inspired by T. S. Eliot, Terry Riley, Steve Reich and The Who, this album is a blending of rock, jazz and minimalist elements around a glitch electronica interpretation of "The Burial of The Dead" - Part One from T. S. Eliot's epic poem, "The Wasteland".

Imagine sound art as a landscape. Music is one location in that landscape. Speculativism explores the neighbouring locations on that landscape, next to music, around music, near or far in relation to music. All the tracks are art which has some relation to music but not necessarily conforming to any of the rules usually imposed upon music. Here you will find noise, comedy, Dada, experimentation and satire. Speculativism is Peter-David Smith, a UK-based artist. In the 1960s he went to a rotten,...

12 Paintings as Heard by the Eyes of the Cyborgs These works are explorations of the automatic creation of music by software. Here there are 12 pieces of music created by a process in which a human being sets the parameters for the software to do itâs work and then afterward makes changes to the music based on more human, emotional values. So the musical end result is a mixture of a human being and a robotic programme. I call the result Cyborg Jazz. The software is the brilliant Kenji...

Sound art which resembles music. See the Movie of this album at The Internet Archive: http://www.archive.org/details/NowThatsWhatIMistakenlyCallMusic-VolumeThree All the tracks came from electric guitar as source. With some I simply recorded the guitar. With other tracks I put the guitar imput through midi instruments and VST filters to make very different sounds. Track Five, “Something Strange Happened”, is made from Tracks Two, Three and Track Four superimposed upon each other. Track Six,...

"Cyborg Jazz" designates musical works created by the cyborg hybrid of Peter-David Smith and various robotic software programmes, in this case: "Poodles and Flan" coded by Paul Whalley. The method used: First Peter-David Smith (a human) makes some decisions about the shape of the music, then a robotic programme carries out instructions and creates a midi file, then the human makes some changes and records the music through various VST instruments and effects, adds some...

My dad arrived in Liverpool, England in 1940, from Canada. He was a Scottish Canadian merchant seaman stoking the ship's boilers below decks as the ship was attacked by German submarines and aircraft. The ship, named Europa, brought the Canadian Army to Britain to fight in World War II. When the ship was sunk in Brocklebank Docks my dad signed up as a Canadian soldier and was sent to the army base at Aldershot. After the war he worked as boiler stoker in a hospital boiler room. I was born in...
