Our Vampire Charger can also be thought of as a "Universal Charger." The idea is that you have two piece of wire - in the video they are black and red, but they don't have to be marked clearly, as one of the points of this device is that you might not know which is which, so, to be clear the polarities don't matter . (At the very end of the video, after the phone turns on, Matteo switches the red and black inputs, to demonstrate this point.) As Matteo explains in the video, the idea...

This is a letter that Lisa Rein and John Perry Barlow wrote to Chelsea Manning, on October 28, 2015. October 28, 2015 Hi Chelsea, I'm sitting here talking to John Perry Barlow, co-founder of the Electronic Frontier Foundation and the Freedom of the Press Foundation, and he wonders why requiring you to identify as a man is not a profound abridgment of your civil rights. Perhaps it could be a relatively straight forward process to have such possibly cruel and unusual punishment addressed and...

That sounds a little ridiculous to say, under the circumstances. You've endured so much and come out such a shining symbol of all that is good in the world. I really mean that, and I think of you often. I sent you a card a few weeks ago, but I didn't want to complicate the sentiment of the card with the subject I'd like to talk...

This device is for use during an emergency situation, to charge your phone from any device around with a battery. Without knowing the voltage, current, or even knowing which contact is plus or minus (red or black) - you can get 6 our of 10 watts for instance out of a battery to charge your cell phone.

"Danny O'Brien gives his usual wildly entertaining presentation about experimenting with the Internet Archive's RSS feeds. He also shares his own hackathon feed - of his face at his laptop, hacking for many hours at the hackathon itself. Never a dull moment with Danny! Although I may have just managed to make it sound boring - don't listen to me about that part. Just listen to me about how entertaining Danny is, and watch this video." - Lisa Rein

John Light gives an easy to follow yet fast paced rundown of the entire history of block chain name systems from the time that Aaron Swartz first realized that Zooko's triangle had been squared. Aaron Swartz once published a blog post entitled “Squaring the Triangle“, http://www.aaronsw.com/weblog/squarez... - hypothesizing that a blockchain could be used to create a name system that had secure, decentralized, and human-readable names, thus “squaring” Zooko’s Triangle. Since that post...

Cindy Cohn at Aaron Swartz Day 2015 Thanks so much for inviting me. When I took over as Executive Director of the EFF in April [2015], many people asked me, “What do you want to do? How do you want to be different than your predecessor, the amazing Shari Steele” who has her own little statue. She’s the only non-Archive person who has a statue in the Archive, and Brewster did that to honor her and the work that we’ve done together. What I said was, you know I think that there are enough...

Ben Wikler, who was a good friend of Aaron Swartz around the time of his death, explains how Aaron did not set out to die for open access. He was actually working on a lot of other important projects at the time, and really had no idea that he would become targeted by the U.S. Government as a criminal for downloading journal articles over MIT's open network. (MIT and JSTOR had contractual agreements at the time which made this completely legal.) http://www.aaronswartzday.org/aaronswartzfacts/
