Apparently intended for a Fourth of July celebratory broadcast, Anthony Gnazzo prepared this audio collage of patriotic words and music. The piece begins with what appears to be a man with a megaphone leading a group of children in a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, this is then followed by Gnazzo and others trading off lines in a rather off-key version of the national anthem. Heard next is a very patriotically minded reminder about the importance of honoring the U. S. flag accompanied by some hard-driving pop music, followed by a rendition of Francis Hopkinson’s song “A Toast to Washington,” which the Revolutionary War era composer wrote for his personal friend and first President of the United State. The program then continues with an excerpt of the U. S. Army artillery song “The Caissons Go Rolling Along” performed by an unknown band before concluding with some gentle, unidentified orchestral music.
