we will hear it almost before we see it. this is the lancaster bomber. what a sight. flying from raf coningsby, the great sounds. such a pleasure.
1:01 pm
there is something about the lancaster bomber, that a deep throw did engine when it goes over you, every time it is such a site, such a sound. absolutely. there's a lot of collective military and raf experience on that balcony. prince william served in the raf. quite a bit of history being whispered into those young ears. now we get the two texans alongside. two texans from where the
1:02 pm
prince of wales was based, when he was a air sea rescue pilot. coming up next, the a400m, a huge plane from raf brize norton in oxfordshire. the pilots flew in the ve 80 fly-past, only this time last month? it's been a busy few weeks for all the armed forces. next, an aircraft very familiar to the king and queen, the raf voyager, now the official aircraft of the sovereign when on official duties overseas. it
1:03 pm
replaced the old bae 136. voyager is accompanied by two typhoons. the king was flying in and raf voyager just the other day on his state visit to italy. the precision, when you see them like that, the distance, or lack of distance between the planes is really quite incredible. it is a treat from east london, to west london, everywhere between. if you walk down the thames valley, you will see this in the minutes ahead. if you are inside in those areas, pop out and looks skywards. raf poseidon, based at raf lossiemouth, in scotland.

submarine role, very important reconnaissance aircraft. the next one, the globe master. the great workhorse of the skies, as they call it. this is where the queen's coffin was carried down from scotland, there were not many planes that were fast enough. it was her last flight. her last flight from edinburgh to raf northolt. at the time, it set a record, it was the most monitored flight on the internet, ever.
1:05 pm
this is the f35-b lightning. it is a new generation of combat aircraft that will serve alongside the typhoon, multirole, short take-off and vertical landing aircraft. very versatile. four typhoons. there we go. we got the showpiece coming now. the environmentally friendly showpiece! look at that. on a blue sky day, there are few better sites than that. there go those trails. all from sustainable fuel. you wouldn't know the difference. but it's an important element, as you
1:06 pm
say. something the king has taken a very keen interest in. but it is always a great showpiece. that is trooping the colour, at an end. for another year. the family photo on the balcony. the king and queen will shortly go inside buckingham palace. your thoughts at the end of this, robert? just...
1:07 pm
music: god save the king the final national anthem of the day, and a final wave. what a sight. the crowds will start dispersing, before the family head back inside buckingham palace. as you said earlier, very much of a sense of back to usual, this great event. i think that was three cheers for the king. we must remember to say happy birthday as well, because this is the king's official birthday. thank you for your company here at buckingham palace. that is trooping the colour 2025. that's over for another year.
1:08 pm
back to you. you're watching bbc news. lets bring you the latest from iran and israel launched new strikes on each other as direct military conflict between the two countries moved into a second day. israel targeted tehran's air defence capabilities and sites from which iran can fire ballistic missiles and drones at israel. several salvos of those weapons did indeed head towards israel. they could be seen and overheard in the skies above jerusalem and tel aviv and elsewhere. and it wasn't just the main cities that were targeted. in several towns, there was considerable damage to some buildings. three people died in the attack. images after daybreak revealed the devastation and that israel's much vaunted air defence system is not foolproof.
1:09 pm
in iran, people feel no such security, with their military air defences offering little protection against israeli air strikes. iranian officials say that around 80 people - the majority of them civilians, including children - have been killed. two more senior military commanders and three more nuclear scientists have also been assassinated. the israeli army has spoken about opening a path towards tehran, while the country's defence minister israel katz has said that the iranian capital will burn if iran continues to fire the retaliatory missiles at israel. lets take you to a news conference coming into us from the israel defense forces. at the moment it is in hebrew, but we are trying to get a translation. translation: really, you should all be complement it for it. to our chagrin, three civilians were killed and 17 wounded. i would like to really extend my
1:10 pm
condolences and wish the wounded to recover as quickly as possible. this is very, very important. we are trying to create the best possible defence, with various strata and dimensions of defence. and we have managed to actually reduce, but unfortunately there were still people who were wounded and there were those killed as well. the home front command rescue unit, together with all the other authorities and all first responders, have tried to give and meet the needs as quickly as possible. please, adhere to all our instructions. it truly is a life-saver. but do not publish or publicise any of the actual places where the missiles hit. this is in parallel to other arenas where we are fighting.
1:11 pm
we are talking about the idf forces still fighting in gaza, and the intelligence is still trying to do the utmost in order to find the hostages and bring them home as quickly as possible. they are always in our heart and in our eyes. please continue conducting yourselves with long-winded resilience and continue, after all, these are very strong people and we will continue being strong, and we will continue to update you on every stage. translation: are they considering evacuating civilians next to military bases? translation: we are learning at estimating the situation all the time, and we have thought about every
1:12 pm
possible scenario after all the civilian safety is in the heart of it all, and our defence is close to being hermetic, we are really hermetically sealed and we are doing our best. translation: are you considering opening our airspace so so many tens of thousands of our civilians will be able to come back? translation: again, we are trying to estimate the situation and in accordance we will make a decision. translation: did you actually damage the iranian missile launchers in such a way that they were to be able to perhaps shoot less? translation: one of our aims is to actually, of course, hit them. the air force have hit are so many of the ground to ground missiles and the launch pads, and we will continue the whole time updating you in accordance. the fact that various rockets and
1:13 pm
missiles that they hit in this area in the centre of israel, was it because of some kind of fault? no. our missile defence is one of the best, and the interceptions are very high, but we cannot say they are completely hermetically sealed, from the point of view of defence. it is therefore so important that you must adhere to all the instructions of the home front. the idf are prepared to defend themselves, and all the security forces. we are working in full collaboration with partners around the world, but i will not expand on who they are. but thank you very much. that was a news conference with the idf spokesman there, detailing some of the details of their attacks on iran. he
1:14 pm
was talking about the defence system in israel and the fact that three people in israel have been killed after those retaliatory strikes by iran, he said the missile defence system is one of the best, but it is not completely hermetically sealed, and he also urged the public not to reveal any details about where missiles have hit for operational reasons, and urged people to follow the instructions of the home guard. let's speak to our middle east correspondent hugo bachega who's in rishon lezion. you are in an area where a missile did get through israel's defences. tell us what you're saying. this is the scene here in rishon lezion. let me give you an idea of what is happening. this is where the missile hit. there is a lot of destruction here. all of these houses have been completely destroyed, and this gives you an idea of the power of the blast, the power of the attack that happened here. all
1:15 pm
morning, residents have been coming here to collect some objects. you can see here that there is a family trying to recover anything they can find in this house that has been completely destroyed. let me give you a sense of what is happening around here. there is a lot of destruction all around. take a look at the cars around me, which are completely destroyed, and also the house this year that have been damaged. it gives you an idea of the power of the attack that happens here. siren sounded just before dawn, loud explosions from those missiles fired by iran. around 200 missiles were fired by the
1:16 pm
iranian military. again, a huge, large-scale response. the israeli military says it is launching attacks on several sites in iran? yes, the indications that we have been getting is that it is just the beginning of this campaign against iran. they say the goal here is to damage iran's nuclear programme. yesterday, that large-scale attack, targeting not only nuclear, but military facilities in iraq, trying to damage around's air defence systems and also killing some of the country's most senior military officials and also scientists. a large-scale campaign has been carried out by israel, and that continues today. i think a lot of people are raising questions about the goals of this
1:17 pm
operation, the suggestion that the israeli government may also be trying to achieve another goal, which is to topple the regime in iran. it was very interesting that late last night the israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu issued a video message are urging iranians to rise up against the regime in iran. this is going to be a huge point of concern for the iranian authorities as they try to come up with a response to these attacks. they will be very concerned, because this is putting a lot of pressure on the authorities. the survival of the regime has, for a very long time, been a key priority of the iranian leadership stop so, this will obviously be putting a lot of pressure on the authorities in iran as the israeli authorities are suggesting that this campaign is going to continue. these attacks backwards and forwards are happening in the context where the us and iran were engaged in talks, and they were
1:18 pm
to meet again on sunday. in the last few minutes, we have heard iran are saying that joining the us talks is meaningless amid ongoing israeli attacks. it seems like the process of diplomacy has fallen by the wayside? it's very difficult to see how there could be any kind of de-escalation here, any kind of negotiations for a yesterday we saw president trump urging iran to accept a deal, saying that they should accept a deal before there is nothing left, suggesting that more and stronger attacks are likely to happen. again, a lot of pressure on the iranian authorities. those talks were expected to happen tomorrow. the trump administration was engaged in efforts to try to negotiate a deal with iran. let's not forget the president trump in his first term in office was the one who unilaterally pulled out from the nuclear deal that will
1:19 pm
power signed with iran, and by all accounts iran was complying with the deal. one of the goals of the deal was to curb iran's nuclear programme, but also avoid a situation like this, where you have two major countries firing hundreds of missiles at each other. the potential for escalation is there. iran has warned it will target us, french and uk bases in the region if they take part in protecting israel from the retaliatory strikes. so there is potential for escalation in the region. exactly. we're still waiting to see what the iranians are going to do in terms of their response to these attacks. again, what the israeli authorities are saying that they expect more attacks to come. they have been telling the population to stay alert, to follow instructions. they believe that this was just the beginning of this iranian response. again, for quite some time the israeli authorities have been talking about a
1:20 pm
window of opportunity to strike iran, for a very long time, israel had been warning the world of the dangers of the iranian nuclear programme. in their view, an existential threat to israel, even though iran consistently said its nuclear programme was for peaceful purposes. but the israeli authorities believe they had a window here to act because they saw iran defence being depleted because of israeli attacks last year, is -- iranian proxies in the region, particularly hezbollah in lebanon had been depleted. they were using this opportunity to damage iran's programme, because in their view it poses an existential
1:21 pm
threat to israel. i spoke to jonathan conricus - a former international spokesperson of the idf - the israel defense forces. he's now a senior fellow at the think tank - foundation for defense of democracies. i asked him what his assessmement is of where these now trades of strikes is heading for both i asked him what his assessmement is of where these now trades of strikes is heading for both countries. to answer your question, i think we will divide it into what israel wants and what iran wants. for israel, i think that the minimum achievement that israel would find sufficient would be a significant damage level at the iranian nuclear programme and its ability to produce weapons. anything short of that, i think it would be an underachievement, and what israel has done so far is to pave the way, opened the way and the opportunity against tehran, sorry for the noise in the background, and now the ability, when it decides to,
1:22 pm
to strike targets in tehran. if you ask iranians what they would like to do, they would like to wrap this up as soon as possible, try to salvage something of their battered image and their national honour and respect of the regime, and to try to recover, but to end the fighting and hostilities. we will see if israel has additional targets, as you indicated, that may be the case. but what israel is currently focusing on is nuclear targets, people affiliated with the nuclear programme and military targets of significance towards israel. what are the risks of escalation? we heard that iran has warned it will target us, uk and france targets in the region, if they defend israel.
1:23 pm
would you expect the us, uk and france to help israel in defending against retaliation attacks from iran? last time we saw that iran attacked israel in october of last year, they fired the world's largest ballistic missile attack at israel, and indeed the countries that you mentioned and additional countries, including arab countries, participated in helping israel defend itself. the minister in charge of aviation in india has confirmed that investigators have found the flight data recorder of the boeing 787 dreamliner that crashed just after take-off on thursday from the city of ahmedabad. 242 people were onboard flight ai 171 to london gatwick - with just one person surviving the crash. here's a little more of what he had to say. once i arrived at the site, they have already assembled the necessary rescue teams, the response teams from all the concerned departments were working on the ground actively, trying to rescue

whatever is possible, trying to cut down the fire and to remove debris so the bodies can be sent to the hospital at the earliest. with the timely response, things were able to move much faster than expected after looking at how the crash has happened at the site. and from the gujarati ministry, taking utmost seriousness of the incident, the aircraft accident investigation bureau, it was formed specifically to look into accidents that happen around airports and was immediately mobilised. the core team including fire members, was also immediately rushed to the site to start the investigation process. and since day one,
1:25 pm
the aaib has started its process of investigation. a reminder of the main story this hour, the attacks that are continuing between israel and iran. we have heard in the last few minutes that the israeli military says it is currently launching attacks on several sites in iran. what we are seeing now is some of the action where an iranian missile hit in rishon lezion in israel. two people were killed in that incident. on the other side, in iran, the figures for the numbers killed are 80, according to the iranian government. this is after israel launched a major strike on iran, attacking its nuclear facilities and also killing a
