the new cnn/orc poll this morning shows hillary clinton with a five-point lead over donald trump. that may be a bit less than other polls you have seen. does that mean the race is tightening? not necessarily. here is john king with a look inside the numbers. >> two weeks out. the new cnn/orc poll shows a tight race than other polls. advantage for hillary clinton. you see it among likely voters, hillary clinton, 49%. donald trump, 44%. third party candidates dropping closer as we get to election day. that is typical. as we head to the stretch, let's look at why. republicans tend to win among male voters. 48% to 45%. hillary clinton wants to be the

first woman president of the united states. a big gender gap among women voters. 53% to 41%. that helps hillary clinton heading into the stretch. we consistently seen the education gap. it persists to the end. among white voters with college degree, mitt romney won them four years ago. hillary clinton with 11 point advantage over donald trump. that is a big deal. among white voters with no college degree? that is the foundation of donald trump's support. we don't just ask who you vote for, we ask why. you see the issues and that is striking. one reason donald trump is still in the race is because he leads when voters are asked which candidate do you trust more to handle the economy. on other issues, narrowly on terrorism and immigration. what has hillary clinton said in the campaign? donald trump is unfit to be

developing overnight. a terror attack on a training facility in pakistan killed six people. pakistani security forces killed an attacker. two others died when they detonated bombs they were carrying. new developments in the battle more mosul. coalition forces are closing in

on the city. iraqi and peshmerga troops are along the border. the coalition freed dozens of villages from isis occupation. as they advance, it does appear to be the fact that many isis fighters are fleeing. leaving in the other direction and going to syria. cnn's michael holmes has seen this happening. michael, what can you tell us? >> reporter: john, that's right. that word coming from a senior sunni tribal leader who witnessed isis members, fighters, families knfleeing across still isis controlled territory. forces are trying to circle mosul to stop that from happening. they are not there yet. the kurds may be six miles from

the outskirts of mosul. if you look around mosul, they are still well back. we have been covering one particular strategically important town and surroundingvilsurrounding villag villages. they tried to probe their way in. they were hit by bombs and sniper fire. what is happening today is rockets mainly fired in specific areas. that is from apache helicopters and the like. one presumes that is to eliminate the sniper positions and get rid of the vehicle-born explosive devices. kurds can then move in to that very important city. you know, it is interesting, iraqis put out a number where they have destroyed 130 truck and car bombs in the campaign. they killed nearly 800 isis

adjusting which is pushing subsidies higher. the government gives subsidies to folks to keep your health care costs within 10% of income. some insurers are dropping all together. that means fewer choices and less competition. five states will have one insurer on the federal exchange in 2017. alaska, alabama, south carolina, wyoming. there are big differences in costs between states. indiana with a 3% drop in premiums. arizona's will spike 116%. but had the lowest prices of any state this year. 77% of enrollees will pay less than $100 for obamacare. the number of insured americans is expected to hit 11.4 million next year. 8.6% of americans do not have insurance. you have people in insurance and

developing overnight. a terror attack on a police training academy in pakistan killed 60 people. five or six terrorists entered the hostel. two others died when they detonated bombs they were carrying. some 200 trainees were rescued. developments in the battle for mosul. coalition forces closing in on mosul. iraqi and peshmerga troops a few miles from the city. fighting has been fierce along the way. the coalition freed dozens of villages from isis occupation. as they advance, isis fighters appear to be packing up and fleeing mosul for syria. cnn's michael holmes on the ground near mosul. bring us up to speed on what is happening near the frontlines. >> reporter: as you say, christine, peshmerga forces are about six miles from the out

skirts of mosul. the distance from mosul depending on the direction, it is not uniform. advances are being made and made quickly. 80 towns and villages have now been taken in the campaign since it began. not everyone is eight miles from mosul. that is the point. they are trying to even sincirc city and that is where you see people flee the city. we have a sunni tribal leader outside mosul who has seen dozens a day fleeing from mosul crossing isis-held terrorist into syria. he said fighters and fighters' families and leaders escaping on the battle front. we have been covering that town about 20 miles from mosul. kurdish peshmerga surrounding it. they tried to penetrate a day or

so ago and were driven back by car bombs. they still didn't get to go in yesterday, but today, we are seeing more air efforts brought in. rockets fired from apache helicopters. they are trying to identify the problem positions and take them out to the peshmerga can clear out the isis fighters. we think there are no civilians in the city. that is some good news. it is a strategic city because it is a supply route into mosul. if they cut it off and secure it, that's another step on the way to encircling the city. >> michael holmes near mosul. stay safe. authorities are urged to probe a hate crime at the mississippi high school. authorities did not follow

some investors are concerned and saying at&t is paying too much for time warner. stocks returning strong gains for the year. we are keeping an eye on shares of apple today. shares up slightly in pre-market trading ahead of the company's earnings. here is the big question. will apple end the streak of slumping iphone sales despite the last two quarters. the stock is up 11% this year. iphone 7 was unveiled last quarter. our phone will be included in that report. >> apple has other issues. now at&t and time warner is happening, they are mentioned as a possible deal maker in the whole media landscape.
