and drink 43% more water every day. sodastream. love your water. we have breaking news from iraq. we are getting a live look at people are fleeing the fighting in mosul. joining us with remarkable perspective on the situation is senior international correspondent arwa damon. arwa, tell us what you are seeing. >> reporter: good morning. take a look. the iraqi army sent in the trucks to pick up the people that have been waiting since the early hours of the morning. many of them are in an understandable state of panic. overnight, there was a very heavy exchange of mortar fire and rocket propelled grenades

have been fired. some were telling us their neighbors were killed along with their children. a lot of them walked here. if they have a vehicle, they were allowed through. these people walked for hours to relative safety. they are packing into the trucks as they are coming down. john, we were speaking with a group of women. some have their faces covered. some do not. one particular group of women still had their faces covered. i asked why. they said they have family in mosul. they have family inside mosul who they say tried to cross the frontlines and flee into the area that we're in. then isis shot at them and forced them to return to mosul. that is something we have been hearing happening frequently. isis trying to trap the civilian population to use them as human shields. throughout all of this, we have been speaking to quite a few people who have been living under isis for the last two years. i have to say the most chilling

story i have heard so far in the last 24 hours is that of a mother enslaved by isis and raped and gave birth to a baby boy. all she said she could do was hope he never knew who his father was. you see the iraqi troops loading the smallest ones in the back of the trucks. right now, it was organized. it was chaotic before the trucks arrived before people were guaranteed transportation. there was a mass scramble to the flatbed vehicles sent out to the area. people are telling us that even though there are parts of this town that are safe, but what they want to do is get as far away from the fighting as possible. if we just speak to some of them. they fled from that area further up i was talking about.

they only brought a few clothes. these are her daughters. we were very, very afraid. too afraid. there was a lot of firing. there were a few bullets that came. a lot of people had mortars falling on them and they were killed. they said it was a far distance they came. she is from other areas. this is something we have been hearing a bit. as isis pushed through the different parts of iraq, people would flee from one village to

the other. one of the villages that people fled to from other areas only to remain trapped. a fair number of these people are going to be leaving this battle zone and they hope to eventually be able to go back home to the original villages that they were from. of course, they don't know what to expect. they don't know what to see. the other thing which is critical, john, is these people need to rebuild their trust with the iraqi security forces. the last time there was this interaction between this population that has lived under isis and iraqi security forces, especially in and around mosul, was when iraqi security forces abandoned their positions and left. as important as it is to win the battle for mosul and as important as it is for the government to ensure these kinds of support systems are in place to get these people to safety because they need to rebuild that trust. you see especially the men here

are being searched. these people are all people who had to be screened. iraqis have lists of people whom they believe are affiliated with isis. the concern is isis would potentially infiltrate the civilian population and those leaving to carry out attacks. everything is very, very methodically searched. we have been seeing despite the hardship and trek, there is relief among the people because they do have a sense that at the very least, isis is gone for now. >> arwa damon near mosul on the ground with a stunning look as people flee from the heart of the city. indicating perhaps that the offensive into mosul to drive isis out is entering a new stage. arwa, thank you for the reporting. we will check back in with you in a little bit.

showing the race tied this after decent polls from other states from hillary clinton in the afternoon. overnight, hillary clinton had a new campaign message that sounded like a negative ad version from john lennon. today, for the first time, ted cruz will campaign for trump in person. and polling shows colorado a tie. the university of denver poll shows hillary clinton and donald trump at 39%. let's bring in eugene scott. what do these numbers mean in the campaign strategy? >> colorado was a state she was not campaigning in because she was confident. she took a backseat and donald trump was aggressive with the state. especially with millennial voters and a significant number of them for gary johnson. >> and still no word for hillary clinton and will go there or obama. that would be a sign that the clinton team think these have
