sped off. that suspect later killed in a shootout with police. the 20-year veteran police officer, married information fa three, is in critical condition and is expected to survive. >> this officer was not involved in a traffic stop. he was not trying to pull this car over. this officer was driving down the road and ambushed by an individual who pulled a gun on him and shot out the police officer's window. >> all officers in st. louis will now ride two to a patrol car until further notice. and in kansas city, in gladstone, missouri, a police officer was shot and the suspect was shot. the fop tweeting the officer is expected to survive. the suspect's condition and identity is yet to be confirmed. >> west of ft. myers, a police officer was sitting in his

patrol car following a routine traffic stop and someone pulled up and began firing. the officer was taken to the hospital and released. this is the first time in the history of the sanibel police department that an officer was shot. and the shooting death of the 50-year-old police officer was a targeted intentional killing. benjamin marconi was targeted outside a traffic stop. hours ago, san antonio police released a picture of a man who may have information about the murder. we have more from polo sandoval. >> reporter: police in the middle of the manhunt. trying to track down the person for persons responsible for the shooting death of the 20-year veteran of the force. the traffic stop outside the police department, filling out a

citation of a driver and a third vehicle pulled up along him and the person getting out of the car and walking up to the passenger side of the patrol car and shooting the officer. the police chief saying the gunman shot the officer again and the search is on for the individual. san antonio police with the latest on the investigation. >> witness reports indicate the suspect to be a dark complexion male. wearing a gray shirt and gray pants. we have descriptions of with and without facial hair. we are looking into all motives. all sapd police are looking into the investigation. we considered suspect to be extremely dangerous and clear

breaking overnight. a confrontation with hundreds of dakota access pipeline protesters and police. authoriti authorities are calling it a riot. people are trying to reach a

nearby highway. one person has been arrested. protesters claim they were attacked by police with water cannons in freezing temperatures. turning to syria. it is being called the heaviest bombardment in five years. more than 300 people have been killed since the offensive start up a week ago. they knocked out all hospitals in eastern aleppo. barrel bombs said to be full of chlorine gas. cnn's jomana karadsheh has the latest from amman, jordan. jomana, what do we know about the bombing? >> reporter: christine, we have been speaking to people, residents of eastern aleppo and activists. this is the worst the situation has been in eastern aleppo. if you look at the besieged rebel held neighborhoods, they

have been pounded by air strikes. the indiscriminate barrel bombs dropped on the civilian neighborhoods in addition to the intense artillery shells. we are talking about hundreds of people killed and nearly 1,000 people injured this past week. as you also mentioned, there are reports of at least one incident of a suspected poison gas being used that led to the killing of a family of six. we have seen hospitals attacked. four hospitals in eastern al lep aleppo. schools, both in the east and in the regime controlled west, have been hit. we heard this is a preliminary operation in eastern aleppo. there is a ground push and the

civilians continue to pay the heaviest price in the conflict, christine, always with the possibility of mass starvation. a real possibilililitypossibili. >> a quarter of a million people. maybe this is a naive question. these people have nowhere to go, right? they are trapped in the city. >> reporter: this is the really difficult part to try and understand, christine. we are not on the ground to be able to verify this. also, some of the residents, the 250,000 people, some will tell you we have nowhere else to go. aleppo is our home. we have nowhere else to go. people say they do not trust the syrian regime and their humanitarian corridors. they don't believe they will be allowed safe passage. and we have heard fighting ongoing around the areas.

syria. we know the united nations is trying to work with all sides involved in the conflict. whether the syrian regime or rebels or russians to try to work on at least a humanitarian plan for eastern aleppo. so far, there seems to be no progress that we know of. we heard them say the rebels have agreed in principle to the humanitarian plan, but they are still waiting for the green light from the syrian regime and russians. boris. >> five years into the conflict. bloodshed and no progress made. jomana, thank you. we are expected to learn if employees at the o'hare airport will go on strike later this week. it is expected to learn later on this morning if they will walk off the job. employes voted last thursday to trying. they are pushing for a $15
