he slammed his car into the crowd at ohio state university and came out and slashing people with a large knife. he was a student at the university and just before he launched this attack, officials tell us he posted on his facebook page and went on an anti-american rant and grievances of muslims attacked all over the world. he went on america stop interfering with other countries. my brothers and sisters, i am sick and tired of seeing my brothers and sisters killed and tortured everywhere. he said every single muslim who disapproves my action is a sleeper cell waiting for a signal. i'm warning you, america. officials are going through all of his electronic media arn tnd talking to his friends. they have not determined a motive, but terrorism is a possibility.

we know he spoke to the local newspaper at the university last year and he talked about feeling uncomfortable showing his pus limb faith on campus. his mother says he never spoke to her about that. he was a good kid. the only thing he complained about was grades at the university. still a lot to learn. we know he was born in somalia and came to the united states as a permanent resident legally. investigators still determining why. >> pamela brown, thank you. the senior official in the obama administration says abdul razak ali artan went through the most strengict process possible screening. artan and his family were cro cross-checked before being ruled out. if artan was radicalized, investigators believe it happened after he arrived in the u.s. new this morning,

tennessee and areas of western north carolina. i want to highlight the regions which are hard hit with wildfires. notice the heavy rainfall is farther south. this is not the only wet weather pattern we are expecting over the next couple days. the front will skirt on and bring in more beneficial rainfall across the southeast. another disturb aance across th region. not done with it yet. the second round can bring in the heavy rains where we need it in western tennessee and north carolina with 4 to 6 inches could come down. a severe weather element in tupelo and jackson and baton rouge with high winds and hail. it is an enhanced risk of a tornado. the temperatures will cool off and bring you back down into the 50s in the south. guys. >> pedram, thank you. the bloody rampage at the

10:00 p.m., the plane declared an emergency. at that point, the plane was a few minutes from landing at the medellin international airport. the flight originated in bolivia. access to the site of the accident is not easy. we are talking about rugged mountains and high altitude. they were on the way to play game one of two in the south american cup. match to be held on wednesday in medellin and the second match in brazil on december 2nd. thank you, rafael. cubans are remembering fidel castro this morning. tens of thousands waited in line to pay respects at revolution square in havana. he will be honored with hourly

a humanitarian crisis is escalating in syria. rebel fighters lose control of a large chunk of northeast aleppo to government forces. thousands of civilians fleeing for their lives. hundreds killed during the

latest offensive. cnn's nick paton walsh has the latest from london. >> reporter: we know in the past hour, 25 people killed from an air strike that hit one of the rebel held areas. this is part of the daily pattern. this area has been bombarded daily and deprived of food and all hospitals because of the intense bombardment. the ground forces, syrian regime with iranian backing them up and possibly russians too moved through the eastern aleppo area. splitting in two. they are concentrating fire power on the north. perhaps 20% maybe in the area. maybe in their control. we hear of tens of thousands of people fleeing in different directions. stories of families walking 9 kilometers on foot to safety. christine, this is a key turning point in the syrian civil war.

five years old now. we have not seen an urban hold. it may become more broadly under regime control in the weeks ahead. that will spell a turning point for the syrian revolution. the conflict now with the main strong hold of rebels in the area. the commercial hub of syria is now a bombed out shell of a city. 200,000 civilians hiding there. they will be looking for safety. they will fear regime forces with the track record of torture. it is something the world has seen coming for months. power lessing stadiless to stop. >> civilians. we cannot say that enough. there are civilians caught there. >> reporter: yes. we simply don't know. the u.n. estimate 200,000. they are short of food and been under intense bombardment.

they are fighting for a minimum wage hike to $15 an hour. rain moving into the drought stricken part of the southeast where wildfires are spreading. let's get the latest from meteorologist pedram javaheri. >> john and christine, a long time coming when you think about 40 to 60 consecutive days without rainfall. the rain has been coming down in earnest and closer perspective, i want to highlight the largest wildfires in western north carolina and recently in eastern tennessee near gatlinburg across the smokey mountain region. it is not off the charts as far as heavy rainfall. that is good when you are drought stricken. you notice the rainfall moves off to the east. we could get a second band of moisture that develops and the models have done a consistent job with more rainfall on tuesday going into wednesday, but of course, heavy rain can move into eastern tennessee and

western north carolina. precisely where the fires are the most destructive point and it could be beneficial with additional rainfall across the region. the severe weather risk is in place back out toward the west around mississippi into northwestern alabama. the highest concern is going to be for damaging winds and hail. a few isolated tornadoes possible. guys. pedram, thank you. let's get a check on cnn money stream. dow futures with a rebound. the average break after the four-day win streak on monday. the russell 2,000 snapped the longest winning streak in two years. you can blame volatile oil prices for the selling. opec meets tomorrow to discuss the production freeze to boost prices. that means stock markets are lower in europe and asia. asia trading mixed right now. let's keep an eye on the stock. it is up again in free market. that is after time rejected the
