domestic violence. axios is reporting that some strongly encouraged him to stay and fight for his position which is a key gate keeper to donald trump. porter said he never misrepresented anything to chief of staff john kelly. >> that does not square with kelly's defense. some insist porter misled him. that unnamed member of congress said porter promised kelly the story concerned verbal and emotional abuse. not domestic violence. after days of speculation of the future of kelly, kellyanne conway said this to jake tapper. >> i spoke to the president. i told him i would be with you today. he said please tell jake i have faith in chief of staff john kelly and i am not searching for replacements. i saw that all over the news. i have faith in him. >> the president weighing in on the rob porter scandal. he did not identify the white

house aide by name, but tweeted. this people's lives are shattered and destroyed by a mere allegation. some are true. some are false. some are old. some are new. there is no recovery for someone falsely accused. life and career are gone. is there no such thing as due process? no hint that rob porter has been falsely accused. that stunning tweet followed by this remark on friday. >> as you probably know, he says he is innocent and i think you have to remember that. he said very strongly yesterday that he is innocent. so you have to talk to him about that. we absolutely wish him well. >> the president feels for the accused. we rarely ever hear him feel for the victim. >> in this case of the central park five, he did not feel for those accused. >> the domestic violence abuse. never apologized for taking out full-page ads in the '80s.

immigration plan from the president ahead of the floor debate. it comes from the chamber's conservative members and has the proposals outlined by the president. it has a pathway to citizenship for eligible immigrants in exchange for a border wall and security. a number of new laws make it easier to detain and deport immigrants. >> and included is limited family-based visas. mitch mcconnell is allowing senators a chance to offer proposals to compete for the same 60 votes to advance the legislation. president trump praising the new tax bill as a gift to workers. he tweeted this. 4.2 million hard working americans have received a large bonus and /or pay increase because of the tax cut and jobs bill. we reached out to the white house to see what they are counting there. we know more than 300 companies

announced tax gifts to workers and one-time bonuses. apple and at&t and disney and bank of america and walmart. those workers are a fraction of the 125 million who work for a company. 13% of corporate tax savings will go to workers. this is according to the survey from morgan stanley. cutting the corporate rate is a gift to investors. they will buy other companies and equipment and on paying back investors. 43% earmarked for stock buy back and dividendividends. that was the criticism. worker cost benefit more as time goes on. investment could lead to more jobs and higher wages. there is no guarantee. clear that investors are the big overall winners. >> the workers need wage growth. bonuses are nice. legit. $1,000. they would rather have wage growth.

invitation to president moon jae-in. we have paula hancocks live in pyeongchang with more. good evening, paula. >> reporter: hello, dave. it is not just the invitation for the south korean president to head north. there is also an invitation which apparently has been accepted by the ioc president. so thomas bach, the olympic committee president, is expected to go to pyongyang. this invitation extended in january when the north korean delegation wanted to nail down the details for them to come to pyeongchang. suddenly the charm offensive does appear to be doing what north korea wants it to do. they have sent kim jong un's sister down here. she has been hailed by the world's media. i spoke to one governor who met her a few times while she was

here. he said the talks with the north kore koreans and south koreans. she is calm and she doesn't speak very much. when she does, she is accurate in her words. it was clear she was speaking for her brother kim jong un. and talking about whether the u.s. is left on the sideline. they are still in tandem. >> thank you, paula. >> let's bring in josh roggin. >> good morning. >> you are the guy who broke the story. north korean diplomacy news. united states potentially could sit down with the north koreans without any pre-conditions? >> i spent five days in japan and south korea with vice president pence. he was sending a clear message about the brutality of the north

korean regime and the charm offensive should not work. behind the scenes something else going on. in two meetings with moon jae-in, one at the blue house and one in the figure skating house, they agreed on moving forward with the engagement with pyongyang after the olympics. more meetings and then potentially down the line with direct talks with the united states and north korea. the agreement was this. south korean president agreed not to release pressure or sanctions on north korea just for talking. based on that assurance, vice president pence encouraged him to continue with the engagement and said the united states is open to talking with north korea. it is a small window and opening after months and months of tension. it is something that's different and significant that happened

privately in south korea. >> a major reversal. the vice president telling you quote the maximum pressure campaign will continue and intensify. if you want to talk, we'll talk. what happened to fire and fury and all the rhetoric from president trump? >> two things. i would say there is a lot of different messages from the administration. last month, president trump said he doesn't see anything wrong with talking to the north koreans per se. he said talking is fine. secretary of state rex tillerson said we should have the talks about talks. talks without pre-conditions. what is new here is we worked that out and endorsed that the at white house level in conjunction the south koreans. the break with south korea and the united states. this goes a long way to fixing that. that is what mike pence was doing in south korea. making sure the south korean government and u.s. government were on the same page. there are a lot of pitfalls coming.

sanctions and north korea could shoot a missile anytime. they probably don't want to talk about denuclearization. they want all of those good caveats to say we are not at peace yet. if you want to avoid war, you have to sit down and talk. that's what mike pence is saying. >> if you have the north and south talking and potentially talking after the olympics, does that leave the u.s. on the outside? is that the north koreans screwing a bit with the americans? >> that was the north korean goal and that is what the south korean president and mike pence are trying to avoid. there is still some game left to be played. keep in mind that the north koreans are trying to split the alliance. president moon is trying to pursue the narrow opening to avoid war without leaving the u.s. behind. that is difficult to do. what mike pence is saying as long as you keep up the pressure

and stay together on increasing the sanctions on north korea while we're talking to them, which is new, we put off the pressure and then talk and release the pressure in change for talking. mike pence says if we keep the pressure and talk at the same time, he is okay with it. >> extraordinary. considering these games opened with north korea putting on a military parade showing off the long-range ballistic missiles. have they laundered their crimes and reputation through the olympics? >> interesting. >> it is a great question. because that was what mike pence was doing in public and negotiating in private. he is trying to stop them from doing that. all of the coverage was kim jong un's sister is nice. she smiles. look at her. she manages to say a few nice things. that's out of mike pence's control. he cannot make people listen to his mantra of the brutal north korean regime. they are a brutal and evil regime. you don't make peace with your
