the only time that stone told him to go wikileaks and try to get the goods. he claims he spoke to stone on october 7th in the hours before the now-infamous "access hollywood" tape became public. stone wanted him to try to mitigate the fallout with some help from wikileaks. >> we get to october 7 which was a very, very busy day from here in new york. and roger calls me three times. we had three -- three times we have a discussion. now my recollection is that roger is saying this is going to be dropped and assange better get going. why don't you get to assange and tell him to start? i didn't have any contact with assange. but roger going back to july and august may have, you know, may have led him on. >> reporter: stone denies corsi's version of events telling cnn "it is pure, unadulterated b.s." corsi still insists he never had

>> meantime, the democratic majority in the next house continues to grow. the party picked up another seat with torres small beating republican yvette herrell, in the second congressal district. that makes a net gain of 35 seats for the democrats. can they reach 40? just one house race left to call in california's district. d.j. cox has pulled ahead of republican congressman david valadao by over 400 votes in the latest tally. cnn and news organizations called the race for valadao on election night. cnn withdraw the projection as the count tightened. at the moment the balance of power in the house looks like this -- democrats, 234 seats, republicans, 200 seats. one seat undecided. about the blue wave, call it a tidal wave really. democrats made big gains in the 2018 midterms picking up 39 seats in the house. in governor races, governor's races, democrats had a net gain of seven while republicans lost six. and in the state legislatures,

president trump says he's waiting for a full report on russia's most recent confrontation with ukraine. he says depending on what it says he may skip hisses scheduled meeting with -- stanley cup h may skip his scheduled meeting with vladimir putin this week. tension climbing in the region after russia seized three ukrainian navy ships in the strait on sunday. you see them ramming a ukrainian tugboat. this morning more than a dozen ukrainian sailors are still being held prisoner by russia. their confessions, maybe forced confessions, have been aired on russian television. senior international correspondent nick paton walsh joins us live from ukraine. what is the latest this morning? >> reporter: well, at this point the kremlin say they're making accommodations for the meeting despite trump saying he might

cancel it if he learns the full details -- he said was going to be a full report that he was supposed to hear last night. we don't know what that's resulted in. we know that he's been relatively muted in terms of criticizing what he called aggression, saying he wasn't happy about it, saying he wanted it straightened out. he did use the phrase, quote, either way. suggesting perhaps he could hold either side responsible for what happened in the strait, the most brazen military-on-military confrontation we've seen so far. normally the russian military has used proxies or disguises to some degree over the last four years while it's attacked ukraine. it's led to these days of escalating rhetoric despite germany's angela merkel calling for deescalation, we've not seen that. about four hours ago, marshal law kicked into effect in ten regions. there's no obvious, palpable sign being reported of what that actually means on the ground. there's been a bit of confusion, frankly, but exactly how this is going to be implemented. it's supposed to last 30 days. even last night, the ukrainian

congressional district. democrat t.j. cox has pulled ahead of republican congressman david valadao by just over 400 votes in the latest tally. cnn and other news organizations had called that race for valadao on election night, withdrew the projection as the count tightened. let's bring in digital director zach wolf live in washington. let's talk about the blue wave that's a blue tidal wave over the past weeks. interesting harry enten ran the numbers after we were talking about this late yesterday. before the election, 58% of the population had a gop governor. after the election, it was 47%. so it's not just these house numbers, right. it's not just all of the state legislatures which is true, the governorships. you know, you look at that, and that shows you just how blue that blue wave is. >> yeah. it really changed, i think, the make-up of the country's political infrastructure. you know, the thing that we always talk about is that democrats now control the house. you know, something just short

of nine million more people vote for a democrat in this most recent midterm than for a republican. that's a huge margin, bigger than it was, you know, for hillary clinton over donald trump in the popular vote. in the -- in the 2016 election. you can sort of see this -- this, you know, huge shift here. now the question is going to be is this something that lasts, does it go through until 2020. that's kind of the next question. >> yeah, that 8.9 million vote margin larger than watergate, which is the largest ever for the house democrats. but barack obama lost 63 seats in 2010 and got re-elected. so what does it tell us for 2020 beyond the senate is turning redder and the house is turning bluer? >> i think you have to go back it herbert hoover to find a president who lost the majority and then went on to lose re-election. it doesn't happen very often. people, they have a way of -- of

rebounding, you know, harry true man went out after losing the majority and was able to villainize the republicans. and you can bet that donald trump is going to do exactly the same thing here. now donald trump, however, is vastly different as a politician than any president before him. and he's so much more polarizing, i think, that it's going to be a lot different with him. >> a lot of the presidents turned to the senate or triangulate as clinton did. we don't see that happening by any means. >> one of the reasons why citizen donald trump is president donald trump is because of places like trumbull county, ohio, where there's a large town, where they make the chevrolet cruze. the flip in the county -- 29 points, rarely votes for a democrat. and flipped by 29 points to trump for a republican. he won in mccomb, washington, the warren, michigan, plant. same story. huge flip from the democrats to president trump. and they're losing their jobs. those people there are losing

their jobs after the president said you vote for me, i promise you, not going to happen. are his empty promises going to hurt him, or is he going to find a way to cast the blame on gm or on the fed chief or find a boogieman for this? >> but see democrats in the midterms rebuild a little bit of the rust belt with wins in governors races, in michigan and some other places. so that's really important, i think, for them. you know, can they get back pennsylvania and michigan? these places that were so disaffected with democrats. part of the -- formererly part of the blue wall that essentially handed trump the presidency. and if there are a lot more plant closures, i think that will be something that, you know, really worries president trump. and i think that's probably also why he has gone so, so hard against gm for cutting those plants. >> he said he was going to fix nafta. he fixed nafta, took the credit. the victory lap for fixing nafta, and still having five plants shut down in north

america. >> want to circle back to the top story. a lot of developments in the russia investigation including "new york times" reporting that paul manafort's lawyers have been briefing the trump team. now we know that plea deal is off the table. trump on and on and on tweet being in yesterday. but in part he said heroes will come of this. and it won't be mueller and his terrible gang of angry democrats. does this appear to you like a pardon is coming to paul manafort? >> well, you know, for paul manafort to sort of get messed up with the plea deal doesn't make it seem like he's working with mueller. so the other interesting thing is there's some reporting in "the new york times" and also to cnn a little bit that it's possible that mueller has been back channeling essentially with the president's team. if they're in cahoots, that would certainly seem to suggest that there could be a pardon coming down the pike. and in that clip you ran of sarah sanders, she certainly didn't rule it out.

these are u.s. helicopters. let me get back to what i was showing you earlier. this is a problem. the cleanliness. these are the bathrooms they have, and you can see water spilling out from the showers that are available, as well as the porta johns themselves. not only is cleanliness and food is an issue, many migrants are sick because of the journey. many have blistered feet, as well as cold symptoms. their bodies are just sort of aching as they wait here to be able to seek asylum in the united states despite what happened over the weekend with a clash with u.s. officials on the other side of the border. again, let me make this clear -- that right there, what you see just past that fence, is the united states of america. that is where these migrants want to go. u.s. officials are now saying it
