learned that it truly started months earlier. in early 2015 rupert murdoch's office gets a call. it's ivanka trump. the ties between the trumps and the murdochs are deep. jared, when he bought a weekly newspaper in new york, the new york observer, he'd reached out to murdoch for advice in the newspaper business to become basically, his protege, and a relationship developed between rupert, wendi, and jared and ivanka. they even vacationed together, went to the caribbean on a yacht, naturally. early 2015, so ivanka proposes a lunch. and at this lunch, it's ivanka, jared, donald trump, and rupert murdoch. there really couldn't be a more

glaring contrast at this intimate lunch. trump, this larger than life glutton, a cheeseburger and fries kind of guy. at this stage, rupert's a health nut. grilled chicken and vegetables and a little soup. the only thing these two men have in common is diet coke. rupert has no idea what this lunch is about, and then trump breaks the news; i'm going to run for president. the subtext being; he's going to want rupert's support. without looking up from his soup, rupert says; you better be prepared to get wrapped up badly. which is australian for getting beaten up. ♪
