nick is overdue. runners at first and second. >> rob: see some tape going up his neck and his shoulder. you watch baseball, you see a lot of shoulders that are taped up like that. might have a shoulder ailment going on with that left shoulder. >> johnny: over the last 10 games, a little bump in the road for nick. 8-38. 0-12 slide right now he is in. but still hitting .313 with 5 homers and 30 driven in. at 2nd base, he's got a potential 31st. low and ball one. activity in the nationals bullpen. we saw tavarez loosening up. as you look at willingham at second and nieves over at first.
and there once again is the veteran right-hander. breaking ball down low inside. it is 2-2. >> rob: you see, they don't want to let nick get his arms extended and hit it to left field. they are playing him to pull. >> johnny: runners in scoring position for cincinnati, 2-7. the nationals 0-6. shot down the right field line, a foul by about 5 feet. >> rob: they were pitching him to pull. he hit it down the right field line, johnny. come on nick. put it in play here. >> johnny: johnson checks his bat. two balls and two strikes to nick. and the reds with a 2-0 lead, we are in the last of the 6th
inning. jared burton delivers. foul off the 1st base line. burton certainly not in the class of rhodes or cordero or weathers. but still, pretty impressive outings. >> rob: he is a nice bridge to the bridge for the closer. very solid bullpen. something that has been lacking in cincinnati for many years. >> johnny: johnson base hit to right! willingham around third. here comes the throw to the plate. and he goes back to third. >> rob: now, that was a great stop. >> johnny: you are not kidding. looked like he had a full head of steam and less listach wisely
held him up. >> rob: nick johnson smokes this into right. bruce comes up throwing. short hop. still, willingham probably would have been dead at the plate. >> johnny: bruce has a pretty good arm. >> rob: not when you have guzman and gonzalez and zimmerman coming up. >> johnny: fouls off the first delivery. so, willingham at third and nieves at second. nick johnson at first. 2-0 ballgame. the best threat the nationals have been able to mount today. and there's one down. guzman grounded to first, singled to right and grounded again to first in the 4th
inning. burton from the stretch. quickly ahead 0-2. >> rob: yep. likes to go inside on the lefties. he is doing it with nick. got caught trying to throw a breaking ball. didn't get it down enough in the zone and nick jumped all over it. >> johnny: guzman 5-13 in this series, include ago homerun. -- including a homerun. ing a homerun. -- including a homerun. 0-2 pitch. down low for a ball. three hits in this inning. one off of burton and two off the starter, micah owings. and the 1-2. good eye for guzman.
outside for ball two. >> rob: this may be the best opportunity for the nationals to tie this ballgame right here. you don't want to get to rhodes and weathers and cordero if you can help it. >> johnny: hernandez wants to go out and talk the his pitcher. >> rob: with a guy on second, you don't want the runner, nieves, relating any kind of information to his hitter. whether it be location or the pitch that is coming. interesting there's a catcher at second. he may be able to decipher the amazingly complex codes between the catcher and pitcher. >> johnny: and the 2-2. down to third. force at third. they give up the run. willingham scores.
guzman got him home and there's two on with two out. >> rob: well, right here trying to put the ball in play. you see cristian guess map slap it to -- guzman slap it to 3rd base. that will get at least one in. probably had a play at home on willingham. but hairston takes the smart plate. get an out any way you can. two outs. >> johnny: in the replay, looked like he could have maybe had a play at home. >> rob: john lannan, deep in thought right there on the bench. he did his job. he did a great job again today. >> johnny: 6 innings pitched. >> rob: and he has lowered his e.r.a. it is well under 3 now after that last start and with today. >> johnny: only one of the two
runs earned today. gonzalez swings and flies it to center. willie tavarez hauls it in. top of the 7th and now it is a one run game. golden, colorado. it's followed one tradition: use the best high-country barley... and only rocky mountain water. and it's been brewed under one motto: never compromise. now maybe this means we're a little set in our ways. but we know a few guys who will drink to that. coors. the banquet beer.

plus innings. >> johnny: finish in line to get a win, too. leading off the cincinnati 7th, adam rosales. the 1st baseman. he is a 1-2 afternoon. singled and struck out swinging. >> rob: that is a lot of work for 5 1/3 innings. 102 pitches like you said. 4 walks, 4ks. 0-2 with a strikeout for micah. >> johnny: dickerson getting set to pinch hit. tavarez delivers outside. a ball and two strikes. >> rob: that is a pretty good
pitch. really good pitch. >> johnny: tavarez has been pretty impressive. one run allowed in his last 7 appearances. >> rob: i think with the success of ron colon, it has been tough to get proper work for julian tavarez. he needs to be tired. that requires a lot of work. >> johnny: from san sant ago go, the -- santiago, the dominican republic. fly to left. willingham right in front of dukes to make the grab.
there's one down in the red 7. >> rob: right here, you hear elijah calling him off. that is the centerfielder's bawl. josh keeps coming and thankfully, those two big boys did not collide because that collision would have hurt maybe both of them or one of them. both of them look like they can play tight end. we have one of the biggest teams i have ever seen. definitely don't think anybody would ever want to play our team. >> johnny: chris dickerson will pinch hit again. hollywood, california. 2-1 reds in the top of the 7th, nationals park. count one ball and one strike.
they have still got rhodes in the bullpen and weathers in case he is needed and cordero. the pitch to dickerson. 9/11s it back. -- fouls it back. he was 0-1 last night and 1-1 as a pinch-hitter on tuesday. both teams with 5 base hits. 2-5-0 for cincinnati and 0-5-1 for the nationals. delivers. just missed outside. two balls and two strikes. nobody on in the 7th inning.
takes outside for ball three. pretty close, rob. >> rob: very close right here on the pitch track. try to throw a backdoor slider. that is the tough part about not getting a lot of work. some of your breaking stuff may not be as sharp as you would like. >> johnny: count full, tavarez delivers and dickerson pops it down the left field line. nice running grab for josh willingham. coming up tomorrow night at 7:30, the nationals and tampa. masn2. join in progress about 7:05. and sunday afternoon at 1:30. and then new york against the yankees on tuesday and thursday on the big network, masn hd, nats xtra starting 30 minutes before the first pitch is

driven in only 3 runs. tavarez the 0-2 pitch. some nights they have hairston leading off and some nights they have willy taveras leading off. taveras should be the lead off. trying to get one of them to take off the lead-off role. but taveras, the speedster, i don't know if he has a hit this series. 0-3 today. >> johnny: and julian tavarez racks up a strikeout as he heads to the doubt. got him to swing at a bad pitch, rob. that thing was down in the strike zone. >> rob: did a great job. one, two, three inning. keep it right there.

>> johnny: as we go to the bottom of the 7th here at national park, in a 2-1 ballgame. nationals trying to take the lead and get on the road with some momentum. ryan zimmerman leading off. and then elijah dukes. >> rob: put up your dukes. >> johnny: right there. looks like a future national player. new pitcher for the cincinnati reds, carlos fisher who shut out 4 of his 5 opponents this year. 6 games in appearance. 1-0 record. e.r.a. of 2.45. 4 walks, 9 strikeouts. pitched against the cubs on
sunday. facing four batters. 1 2/3 against chicago. and the nationals have got the number 3, 4 and 5 hitters in the line-up to face him. ryan zimmerman two balls and a strike. flew to left and walked and flew to right. rob, there's nothing to apologize for now with this nationals pitching. the starters and the bullpen. really on the same page and if the bats get in there well this, we'll be all right. shairon martis looking on. >> rob: a 1.04 e.r.a. in 14
games into the season. our pitching staff has really turned the corner. as i said today, steve mccatty issed howing these guy -- is holding these guys accountable for their performances. >> johnny: and zimmerman draws another walk. today we are kind of giving you up close and personal. my good friends at home depot with adam dunn and his mom has some thoughts about her son. >> we never knew what to expect with adam. when he was 18-month-olds, he hid in the fireplace from me. couldn't find him for that minutes and he opened the glass doors and said hi, momma. >> johnny: and his mom was thrilled. how about that. hiding in the fireplace. >> rob: yeah. >> johnny: there's some ammunition next time you see
adam. zimmerman at first. carlos fisher facing his first batter walks him. so, dunn against fisher now with a man at first. the tying run down there. pretty good numbers in the 7th inning or later for dunn. walk, struck out swinging and flew out to center. i know how nice it is for adam to have his mom and dad watching this ballgame today in person. swing and a pop up on the infield. and there's one down. so, hairston with an easy grab at third.
zimmerman staying at first and elijah dukes will step in. struck out the last two times he has been to the plate. 0-3 afternoon. dukes hit that homerun on tuesday night. along with guzman. but now the idea just to get a base hit. just getting some guys on base. first pitch swinging. a high fly to right. but bruce will handle this with ease and there's two down. coors light freeze cam brought to you by frost brewed coors light. the world's most refreshing beer. >> rob: cristian guzman slaps it to third. freeze it. hairston catches it. does he have a shot at the plate on willingham, maybe. but he chooses to just go over and take the sure out. and they would get out of that

bottom of the 7th with a runner on. check swing outside for ball two. >> rob: reds have done a solid job of changing speeds on our hitters. given them a lot of hard stuff to swing at. that is the key. when you can add and at-bat instruct on your pitch -- subtract on your pitches, keep the other team thinking, bag on their heels. they have thrown a lot of inside pitches. set up the breaking balls. >> johnny: and look at the number 3, 4, 5 hitters for the nationals today. they have worked two walks. zimmerman, dunn and dukes does nobody else has a base hit. >> rob: they pitched around zimmerman. couple of walks. zimmerman had a couple of lined shots to left field. a couple of walks and then dunn a walk, nothing to hit and then
elijah dukes, a couple of ks and a fielder's choice. that is the kind of stuff that is going to kill you. if the middle of the line-up is being pitched around, the other guys on the team have to step it up. >> johnny: fisher falls behind. 3 balls and a strike to willingham. >> don: and they may try to -- >> rob: and they may pitch around josh to go to kearns who has not been swinging the bat real well lately. 2 of the 5 hits today from josh willingham. >> johnny: and he fouls it off out of play. craig stammen goes tomorrow night. >> rob: we talked about trading prospects for some players and matt garza came over in the dell mon young
