commend them for their vigilance. historicg this frontier our freedom. of theess the resolve people of the united states of in the to stand together months and years ahead with the people of south korea to preserve their freedom and ensure the objective of a denuclearize korean peninsula. it is not objective not shared by -- just shared by the united states and people south korea but the people across the globe. i am here to express the resolve of the people of the united states and the president of the united states to achieve that objective through feasible means, negotiations, all options are on the table.
we continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of south korea for the denuclearization of this peninsula and for the long-term prosperity and freedom of the people of south korea. let me say that it is also very humbling for me to be here because my father served in korea in the united states army more than 64 years ago. favored me with a few reflections on my father's service here and it seems fitting that as vice president, i could be here to personally express the timeless bond between the people of south korea and the people of the united states of america. people across the world should know that the bonds between our people are not simply strategic in military and economic but they are personal.
they span generations of americans and south koreans and seehat foundation we will freedom through. we will see the interest of the security and prosperity of the people of south korea. in a word, we go together. >> he said everything is still on the table, does that include a potential u.s. potential strike? what did china do to dictate that they were putting pressure on north korea? mike pence: i think that president trump and president president xi had a great talk about that. china will use its influence on the peninsula of north korea to
get that done. we are heartened by steps that china has done. we are looking for them to do more. we will be working with china, japan and other allies to achieve this objective. through feasible means. discuss military tactical decisions. the president has made it clear, our administration has made it clear, we stand with the people of south korea. all options are on the table to peoplethe safety of the of this country and the safety of the region. >> do you have a message for the people on the other side? pence: i think the message of the united states people is that we seek peace.
we have always seek peace through strength. my message today is we stand with the u.s. forces of south korea. it is a message of resolve. the people of north korea, the military of north korea should not mistake the result of the united states of america. we stand with our ally. the alliance between south korea and the united states is ironclad. we'll -- we will fulfill that allies for the sake of our people and the people of south korea and we will continue to achieve our to shared objective. across this region and across the world. for the denuclearize korean peninsula. >> how is this a different policy that the trump administration is pursuing? believe that you can
trust time at this time to follow through? china has often not come through. vice president pence: president trump is very hopeful that china actions necessary to bring about change in policy in north korea. and invent -- and abandonment of its missile program. we are hoping they will use the extraordinary relationship and pressure they have with them to achieve that objective. either china will deal with this problem for the u.s. and our allies well. --h regard to chains, change, we have gone through since we learned of the nuclear weapons on
the north korea peninsula. the era of strategic patience is over. president trump has made it clear that the patience of our allies and this region has run out and we want to see change. we want to see north korea abandon its reckless path of the development of nuclear weapons and also the continual use and testing of ballistic missiles is unacceptable. clarity we hope all be received in north korea and that they will understand that the people of america and south korea are allies across the region to achieve our objectives through feasible means or ultimately by whatever means are necessary to protect the interest or the security of south korea and to bring stability to the region. >> thank you all, please head back.
