i was born up the road and miles met at uc ents berkeley. and my father came from jamaica study economics my mother shamala came from india to study disease.of fighting they came here in pursuit of more than just knowledge. like many others they came in dream that was a and me andhemselves, my sister, mya. as children growing up in the east bay, we community with

deep belief in the promise of our country and understanding of that promise, we're raised in a community taught to ee a world beyond just ourselves. to be compassionate about struggles of all people. nd the fight for justice is everyone's responsibility. don't mother would say sit around and complain about things. do something.

and she was saying get up, stand n't give up the fight. this inspired me to be a rosecutor. p spot i cks from this walked into the courtroom and ds that would guide my life's work. eople.he pris justicenew our criminal

ystem was flawed but also new impact law enforcement had on people's lives. and responsibilities to give and these are the voiceless and vulnerable. i believe and on that point,

on that point, then, as i do now, no one should be left to alone. when a case filed it doesn't read the name of the victim but the people. is a point i've explained to survivors of crime. people who faced harm at the trust.of someone they the people power of nd hi life i have only had one

client, the people. ople meant r the pe fighting on behalf of fights not predators but violence and stigma. when prevention and redemption were not in the voe cab back to you larry of most district there is an initiative. for the people meant fighting

for middle class families that millions in the and wealthy on bankers accusing innocent homeowners of fault as if the atch was of the people making so we went after the five biggest banks in the united $20 billion for and we didand passed for the people. fighting through traffic and and i saw this. their ruthlessness. and on the subject of ransactional gangs let be

clear. vanity project is not going to them. in the fight for the people to hold this administration accountable i have seen amazing an people.the americ during this fight, i saw parents and children with brave illnesses walk the halls of the united states congress. families who have traveled cross the country and incredible sacrifice. they came to our nation's capital. believing that is their stories they were and if would do the aders

same thing. plane,ame by thousands by train and on shore. hey're sleeping 10 deep on floors.room to the only country they've known as home. i met survivors that shared their personal experiences who told stories they'd never revealed. to their closest loved ones. they believed leaders would ourect the highest court in land and we took on these battles. n.d to be sure, we wo and we have lost.

fighting.er stopped fighting.r stopped we're here knowing we're at an history point in the and we're here because american dream and line like re on the before.
