california. the california state legislature this is the last day of session and it will be the last day of his legislative career having served in two different seg segments, 26 years in the california state legislature. mr. lamalfa: jim is a good friend, great mentor, and a blessing to all of us in northern california who he served for all these years. whether the legislature or also during the board of prison terms working to keep our streets safer. jim is a rancher. by way of sanger, california, near fresno who really understands the needs of the north state and its people. it was a pleasure for me to overlap my time serving in the legislature there and here. out in northern california. i appreciate his friendship. jim is a good man, man of god. who shows christ's example in his actions. indeed that's very, very important in these perilous times we face.

operate like owe lig on police putting their self-interest. no raises for the workers in the last decade. no paid sick days. u.s. railroads have become way too big for their own britches. last year railroads earned a record $20 billion in profit but they refused to allow their workers seven paid sick days? really? yes, dwreedy and uncaring. how many paid sick days and vacation days do the rail barrons siphon off from the workers owned by faceless absentee wall street funds, they have become a national illness. they treat with equal disdain their workers and the communities that must endure their rude behavior and neglect of rail installations. stand with america's rail workers that join our nation from coast to coast and haul over 40% of the goods we move in this nation. the speaker pro tempore: for what purpose does the gentleman from wisconsin seek recognition?

most important, they provide seven days of sick leave for more than 100,000 railroad workers. these workers stayed on the job during covid-19 to keep food and other essential store shelves filled nationwide. they risked their lives to do so. and their efforts saved lives across the country. i i'm very disappointed that the railroads do not reward them for their efforts, but i am proud to say that congress acted today to do what needed to be done. no one should have to go to work when they're sick. i know that the owners of the railroads don't. thanks to these resolutions, our freight rail workers can take time needed to protect their health and the health of their colleagues. and with that, mr. speaker, i
