will attempt once again to reach the city on saturday in a bit to rescue the innocent from what is left of maria pole. and joining us now, maria sory jenko, a former resident of mariel. paul, who is now sheltering in levine in western ukraine, where you're welcome back to the w news. over the past month, you've been giving us regular updates on what you've been hearing from the port city. and now some of your friends and family we understand have managed to get out . what did they tell you? hi, thanks for having me. yeah, most of my close people, my relatives and brands managed to escape the city and they share horrible terrifying stories. so they are weeks under constant shalayna with no food, no heat, no power, and no access to any information. they are very afraid. and as incredible as it may

seem that thousands of people are trying to escape pretty much everybody, but some people were told or trying to return and understand. you actually have a friend who tried to go back. yeah, my girlfriend, she didn't find her parents in the seat and she couldn't find the way how to vacate them with them all in tears. because as you know, there is no minutes there and how and no corey dories, nothing for people to advocate. so she decided to go there on her own and try to find her parents and them. unfortunately, i have no connection with her for 3 or 4 days already, so i don't know where she is right now. but i hope that she managed to find her parents and get them out of the out of it help. and we hope so too. of course. listen, the city, as we've been saying is being shelled, non stop, much lies and ruined. i think

a lot of our viewers will remember that maternity ward that was came under artillery barrage and did the theater that was destroyed, which was sheltering people. do you think despite the devastation that people, once peace comes, will want to go back to that city? while it's a very hard question because because our home even despite that constant shell in and all the rooms that are currently there. but you can imagine that for instance in my car and there are great now. so i can't imagine when we can go back there and we will need to rebuild the city. and in fact, you know, billions of dollars, that's the rebuild the house to send the infrastructure. but unfortunately, thousands of people have rated dice and no one can on that. so i hope that we will be able to return and maria will be ukraine,

a military action or bond close friend. an economic partner footie now says a vote for a fetus is a vote for peace. the government claims the opposition is pro war something the opposition denies the war in neighboring ukraine has taken center stage in this selection. but just how much is the war influencing halter me a bit get. we're going to vote for peace. that's why we're here and peace will be delivered by the government by feed us. it's annie, choose peace, choose 0, read this campaign slogan from hungary opposition, but their message is being drowned out by or above peter's party, which is dominating campaigning. some borders are also being swayed by domestic issues and take them. i will vote for the opposition because i see the future in them and not in this homophobic government. a political analyst peter crack o says the warning ukraine has helped or been create

a fresh narrative. so what urban does now is that he translates for him for listening to domestic boy except the messages that if you support the opposition, then the real team awfully do crane. and as a result, there will be of war and you were hungarian. voters can also die as a result of the war and you as anger and voters can pay very much for the gas and there are tricity than you paid before. how much fetus stands to benefit from the tactic is unclear. 20 percent of voters say they are still undecided. let's get you up to speed on some other global headlines now. china has denied circumventing e u sanctions imposed on russia. the you warned at a virtual some of that any attempts from china to help rushes worn ukraine could damage business ties between the 2 economic blocks. european parliament president

facing disciplinary action after slapping comedian chris rock for making jokes on stage about smith, 2nd wife during the ceremony on sunday night. thank you. and for more on this let's go to ron. so it's like beto who is an entertainment journalist in washington d. c. thanks for joining us. run say will smith has resigned from the motion picture academy where the slap is this an attempt to head off more serious penalties? do you think? in many ways it does seem that way, i think frankly blunted the impact of whatever might come in the future. so yes, i would, i would agree that that's what that's what's happening right now. and do you think he's sort of got the academy out of an awkward situation by resigning sort of preemptively and anticipating a possible, you know, dismissal? possibly. possibly it's, it's unclear what it would look like for that. i mean, who knows what they can do to him now he's no longer a member,
11:12 am
but he says that he is open to whatever actions become. and so if they do take actions, it's interesting. see how, how that, how that will play out. so possibly they can see that he can not actually rejoin the academy for x amount of years, but it's at this point, we don't know, we still have to win the see. do you think there's a possibility that this was somehow negotiated with the academy beforehand and possibly with chris rock and there's a, there's a play is a screen plato all this rehabilitation somehow that was so i do know that will smith met with the academy early this week so of course multiple reports, there was a 30 minute call between will smith and the leadership at the academy and he supposedly apologize and said that he was open to whatever action they decided to go with. but i don't think chris rock is involved. chris rock has said that he hasn't report said that they haven't spoken to each other. so i don't think chris
11:13 am
rock is in any way involved, but it's not far fetched to think that he teams when we can meet early this week. and just to come back to l. smith, i mean shortly after the slap he won an oscar. so is he just sort of taking his ball and leaving it 30 minutes after the slab of he p one. the ask is lacking chords reports. the academy was trying to decide how to respond to it. and by the time, you know, you know, the kind of figure out their options, he won the award so they were kind of left out with no options. so taking his ball even i think would be to retire and which i don't, i don't think that's what this is. he's just no part of the academy, which means he can only vote. and nominees, i am probably can no longer be nominated. but beyond that, i don't think that will be taking his ball and leading on his career. ok, run to think better journalists in washington, d. c. thank you for that insight. thank you so much tougher sports and some
