Good acting, middling script.
Hollywood's production code era alliance with the Catholic Church coughed up any number of cinematic pieties, of which this movie is at least blessedly restrained. "Crime and Punishment" it isn't, although it's worth noting that even Dostoevsky tacked on a Hollywood ending.
