discuss trade and tariffs. the two leaders, president trump, chinese president xi jinping spoke this morning in which the president said the result of that call was a positive conclusion for both countries. >> we had a very good talk. we have a deal with china, as you know, but we were straightening out some of the points having to do mostly with rare earth. magnets and some to other things. >> reporter: the president says treasury secretary scott bessent, commerce secretary howard lutnick and u.s. trade rep jamieson greer will meet shortly with chinese counterparts at a location to be determined. trump says he and the first lady will go to china at some point. he also invited xi and and his wife to the united states. the president says there was no discussion, on the russia, ukraine or iran. shortly after after, the president welcomed german chancellor friedrich merz. the president is giving the european union until july 9th until if 50% tariffs take effect.

germany is the largest steel-producing country. in europe at least. europe is also pushing the administration to affirm nato defense commitments. trump has pressed european countries to spend more on defense, and germany has moved to significantly boost its defense spending. the president says he'll keep troops in germany if the germans like having them there. he also likened the war in ukraine to kids that need to stop, need some time to fight it out, but then he stressed that he wants to stop the killing. he says also that if russia is out of line, you'll be amazed at how tough he can be in a discussion of potential financial penalties, but he also said russia or ukraine could be subject to something he doesn't like if war continues to drag on. elizabeth: thank you so much, rich edson. appreciate you very much. now please listen to this. >> the benefits of the big, beautiful bill will outweigh any negativity. >> i don't think it's going to -- [inaudible] i mean, the experts have been wrong over the last 50 years, and like right now we have this

see you. we've got senate finance chair mike crapo saying there are likely two no votes, just one more defection could derail it. what do you think's going to happen? >> well, ron johnson put out a graph a couple of days ago, a chart, very simple chart. it simply says, look, even during trump's first term, deficits were under a trillion dollars. then we had this pandemic, and every administration and every budget post the pandemic have been $2 trillion plus deficits. why in that's a simple question, why? and i think he's getting a little traction with that. that's what got elon fired off. he look looked at that chart too and said, wait a second, why do we have to spend $2 trillion more than we need to? what johnson wants to do is split the bill in half, get the tax cuts in on time, but july 4, that are required to keep small business and large business humming, keep the economy going

which is doing quite well, and then work on this deficit reduction thing separately. and that's really the raging debate that's going on right no- elizabeth: yeah, i hear you. >> i don't know if that's going to happen -- elizabeth: here's the problem, they're trying to get it done with a simple majority vote under budget reconciliation. if you split it up, you face a filibuster with 60 votes. but we hear you on that. we understand what you're saying because secretary scott bessent says everyone, all income classes, face a massive tax hike if it doesn't get done. kevin, the thing is the coverage of this has been way off. the bill stops a massive tax increase. it's not about -- the tax cuts, it's about -- not about, you know, letting them lapse or expire, not about more of that. but let's talk about how the scorekeeper, the cbo, gets it wrong. the cbo wrongly assumed nothing's going to happen if the tax cuts expire. the economy will be okay, no jobs lost.

we're seeing analysis it could cause a recession, throw people out of work if the tax cuts expire. what do you think. >> >> the big issue at the cbo is what growth rates are assumed for the next ten years in scoring this budget. they have a 1.8% growth rate. for 20 years we've had at least 2%, but some senators and i'm in that camp say, look, the american economy can be very competitive and moveo 2.5-3%. those are huge differences in assumptions. if you say 1.8% and that's all the economy's going to do, sure, you're to going to score anytime a very conservative light. and i take issue with that. that is not what you would do in business. elizabeth breath elizabeth yeah. >> that's not what a corporation. does, they don't assume no growth. 1.8% is really, really weak -- elizabeth: that's weak and, kevin, it's probably going to be 3-4% growth because, you know, the trump tax cuts did pay for themselves. the cbo was wrong on that in 2017. as you point out, they didn't

account for the extra economic growth along with president trump's energy policies and deregulation. the cbo was way off on obamacare, it said it would increase the number of people on medicaid by 16 million, 34 million went on that. the cbo also predicted 24 million would get insurance through the obamacare exchanges and just 14 million did. more people went on medicaid. the cbo's been way off on that. >> yeah. listen, they've had a lot of variance, no question about it. the bill has some tweaking, probably a lot done by next friday. one of the tweaks that's freaked out a lot of senators is this idea of empowering the irs to audit businesses for nine years that took ers tax credits. that's a nonstarter, so i'm sure they're going to work on that language. there's a lot of little things going on here. but you're right, the overriding issue is how to score the cbo -- how do you work with forecasts a decade out? elizabeth: kevin o'leary, you're

>> my reaction to this as i'm sure most americans' reaction to this is, finally, we have a commander in chief that a takes the security of americans seriously. and will make the tough calls and issue the orders to keep us safe. and finally, we have a cabinet in place that is giving him advice and saying this is what we're seeing happening around the country. you have people overstaying their visas. we're having attacks on americans by people that are here illegally that should never have been here, should never have been let in. and so they've looked at countries, do they have a good vetting process, are they state sponsors of terrorism, are today failed states? do they have the ability to share information with america and make sure that we don't have folks coming into our country that seek to do americans arm -- harm? i mean, first and foremost we are, indeed, a welcoming nation, but we cannot welcome people into our own demise. and finally, we have a president that takes that seriously.

elizabeth: you know, the supreme court in 2018 upheld a similar travel ban. you know, senator, what we're not hearing in the media is government data from the cbp showing -- look at the numbers -- 3,743 terror-related encounters at the u.s. border and between ports of entry since fiscal 2017 year to date. dni tulsi gabbard says they identified 1200 illegal aliens with terror ties who were allowed to stay in the u.s. by the biden white house. so they're trying to get to the bottom of more than 3700 encounters of people with links to terrorism? >> and we knew this was happening, remember in under the biden administration. they were encountering people at the border that were on the terrorist watch list. we know that because we've with seen it happen on our college campuses, on victims that have people have been harmed in our country, we know people are coming here with intent to undermine our country, with

intent to do americans harm, and we have to couple not only what we're seeing on the ground, not only on the data, we have to couple it with the fact we now have judges that when they're saying here are people who shouldn't be here, we don't want them here, they keep issuing ing junctions tying the hands of the executive branch to get these people out. so it is timely to have a president to say, all right, we have to be more strict on what who's coming in. not only are we letting many -- in way too many people who are not vetted, our own government is keeping them from getting those who need to to get out quick enough. so i commend the president. elizabeth: got it. senator moody from senate homeland security, thank you for being with us. it's great to see you again. now please listen to this. >> in an era of misinformation, disinformation, the regressiveness of social pole, what we're seeing currently right here -- policy -- what i decided to do can and i really have thought long and hard about this is to follow my own compass.

do as commander in chief. i read tapper's book last week, it was key people around the president who seemed to be running everything. i think those are key people that chairman comer wants to talk to in the course of this investigation. elizabeth: we know the names that are biden insiders, what specifically do you want to get to the bottom of? what are you zeroing in on? because biden white house insiders had links still to their lobbying firms, private sector consultancies, with big companies that profited, likely profited off of big, massive biden overspending you only see in wartime on things like the chips act, you know, the climate change spending in the inflation reduction act and much more. they had personal clients who could have profited. do you want to get at that? >> well, i think we're trying to get at the -- elizabeth: let me back up. their prior firms had those clients, but go ahead. >> yeah, i understand. was he up to the job, and did

you make decisions or was, actually, the guy whose name was on the ballot who got elected by the american people, was he making the decisions? i think it's tough to get that unless you have some whistleblower type person who's going to come forward and say here's what i saw where joe biden didn't know what was going on and yet someone took specific action on behalf of the president, and he hadn't signed off on it. until we get that -- you can't get that whistleblower until you start investigating. we'll see what happens here whether it's attorney general bondi or whether it's the -- elizabeth: and then what? criminal referrals? >> again, it all depends. it all depends on how this shakes out. these things always take time. i've probably done more of these investigations over the last decade than just about anyone, so it just depends on how it all shakes out. elizabeth: chairman jordan, thanks for joining us. >> you bet, thank you. elizabeth: listen to this. >> you're going to protect the homeland and go bring me bad guys, you understand? i said there's no one coming to save us, the avengers ain't
