davis should be a free woman and the high court can't make laws, only congress can say. her husband says she's prepared to sit in jail for as long as it takes. >> she was in good spirits last night. i talked to her last night. she's in great spirits. we were joking and laughing. she said honey i'm just as comfortable as can be. >> she will be fine p. >> the clerks refusal has attracted national attention and support of a number of candidates including senator rand paul, marco rubio and former governor mike huckabee also has plans to meet with cavus -- davis. hillary clinton and donald trump are both running for president but they haven't directly engage so far until yesterday. hillary clinton took time out of her busy campaign schedule to go after donald trump directly. here's what she said. >> mr. trump insults and dismisses women. he's been throwing a lot of heat
my way. i do find a lot of what he says pretty ridiculous. whenever he is pressed about the things he says about women, he says he loves women. in fact, to quote him, he che cherishs us. i would rather you stop cherishing women and start respecting women. >> and as the drip, drip continues with this email server scandal, she will love to talk about the war on women and put donald trump in her cross hairs and try to be the champion for the middle class rather than talk about the hot water she's in and how she's potentially put our national security at risk by having this private email server. any way, donald trump's ears were burning while she was talking about her in new hampshire. he fired back that. hillary said such nasty things about me, read directly from her teleprompter, but there was no

kim davis defied a judge's order to issue those licenses claiming it would violate her religious beliefs. her lawyer says the judge is dragging his feet as they try to file an appeal. joining us is her attorney. does kim have any regrets at all? >> no, she has no regrets. obviously, she never envisioned herself standing in this situation 0 or being imprisoned. you have the jail ministry where she meets women on monday but she never thought she would be on the other side of the bars wearing an orange jump suit. she's very content. out of the first words, all is well and she concluded our meeting by also saying all is well. so she is content where she is. she has no redwrets and one thing she will not do, she will not violate her conscience. >> it's interesting. are you surprised by the response to that? when i was a kid, liberals celebrated those who stood up for their beliefs.
people went to jail because they believed in something. liberals are deriding her. >> it's unfortunate the level of rhetoric that has escalated not only in this case but in general in america. there's a lack of civility anymore and respect. people take a direct attack on an individual because they disagree with that individual and they try to belittle that individual and rather than respect that individual and try to understand why they are doing what they are doing. frankly, kim is someone like dr. marlin luther king jr in the sense that he was willing to pay the consequences for his decision and conscience. in that respect, kim is in that long line of individuals who is willing to pay the consequence for a conscious decision regarding their conscience and religious convictions. there's reasonable ways to resolve this.
the certificates could be changed. it could be issued under the commonwealth of kentucky rather than under kim davis's name and authority. you think maybe different people should be signing off rather than kim, is that what you are saying? >> yeah, she said she can in fact file these licenses like she does a deed or a lien. you are not authorizing, you are not authenticating it. it's not under your thawrt but when she issues a license with her name as the authority issuer, then she is agreeing with her and -- >> is that having like two separate lines, gays you stand in this line and straight couples you stay in this line? >> this is across the board. in fact, the clerks association has made this recommendation. just remove the clerks and the titles across the board and they can be issued through the state. just remove their name so their name and their authority is not being bed associated with something that directly collides
with their religious convictions. >> i keep hearing people say maybe she should get a new job. the requirements of the job have changed after the supreme court decision, why not do something else? >> she's an elected official. she's been there for 27 years. her mother was a clerk a 30 years before that. she ran for public office as a democrat and run in the primary and ran against the republican and won by a good margin. people want her there. she's going to return about $1.5 million of savings by the end of the year. that's a good thing. if they want to remove her, they can, but they are not going to because they want her there so she's called to serve the people. she's going to continue to serve them. unless the people change their mind. at this time they haven't. at the same time she's serving the people and doing a good job and is not going to violate her conscience. >> she's violating the law

when i got to work as secretary of state i opted for convenience to use my personal e-mail account, which was allowed by the state department. in retrospect, something that was supposed to be convenient has been anything but convenient. it clearly wasn't the best choice. i should have used two e-mails. i was not thinking a lot when i first got in, we had so much work to be done, we have so many problems around the world. >> it was easier to hire a separate staff. she just wasn't thinking at the time. >> but now she's walking back

haven't. >> everyone has made the same point, her supporters, her enemies say this is the consequence of her faith. how long should she serve, do you think? >> i don't think she should be serving time in jail. we're a grown-up society. we should be able to figure out how to make sure that the law is followed. in other words, the people get their marriage license from someone else who doesn't have a problem with it and she should be able to have her faith and not be sent to jail. in north carolina and other states, judges are allowed to recuse themselves from solemnizing marriages which they disagree with. they're able to step away and say i don't have to do this. i think she should be able to keep her job and also be faithful to her conscience. >> one of the things people said is have someone else sign off rather than have her sign off. so gay couples come into the county clerk's office, what do they do? stand in one line and the straight couples stand in
another line? >> it gets complicated, but we can figure it out. the other option, of course, is leaving her job. she's a government employee. she does have a responsibility to carry out her duties, and yes, there are consequences. in this case, i think the consequence is way disproportional to what she has done. i think it's very clear, if somebody, if a gay couple comes in and asks for a license, and there are deputy clerks willing to do it, she should be able to step aside and say i prefer not to do that. there's plenty of other work she could be doing. that's a way that's respectful of the individual coming but respectful of conscience. >> there's a three logical don't, not just the legal time of how much time she should spend in jail, but this idea of conscience. critics are slamming her, saying she's been divorced an um in of ti -- number of times. she's picking and choosing
things out of the bible to adhere to. >> people are impoer. you don't have to be perfect in order to follow your conscience on a particular matter. i don't know her soul. i don't know her intention, whether she's doing this for the right reasons or not, but i have every reason to think that she is. and no, i'm sure she's not perfect. >> at what point does a christian just say, i can't do thei this job? >> i don't think it's black and white. everybody has to decide. we're all participating in some level that we don't agree with. if i buy kelloggs cereal in the morning, i don't know what they do with their money? there's always some participation in evil, but when you start forming the intention, that's called formal participation and evil, this is moral theology, since you

you think text messaging and using cell phones falls into that distracted driving? >> oh, yes, definitely. from what we know, text messa messaging is a divided motor skill. it will divide your attention, take your attention away from the safe operation of your motor vehicle. it's just as dangerous as driving under the influence or speeding. >> so, what's been the response by doing this? from the public, are they pleased with you, sort of looking down into their cars, what they say maybe invading our privacy or pleased with it? >> well, it's a mixed bag. some are very impressed with what we're doing to make them safe, help keep them safe, and others who are not. but for the others who are not happy with what we're doing, at least allows us to be engaged in the conversation and promotes awareness. now those individuals are aware we're out there doing this. forri for every person that becomes more aware, we hope that in turn leads to saving lives on

mr. rick delorenzo. the studio smells of pizza. what gave you the idea? >> watching news reports, seeing how the minority of people are trying to kill cops, pigs in the blanket thing, it upset me. i woke up wednesday morning and said, i want to do something to try to reverse the negativity, do something positive. so i went on my facebook page, i put a post out there for all law enforcement officers to come into my restaurant and enjoy pizza, no charge for the entire month of september. >> all right. are you worried about missing out on money? you probably have hungry costs out there. >> not thinking about the money, to tell you the truth. i wanted to make a statement against negativity. >> you certainly are. how has the response been so far? a few days ago you decided to do this. >> i started on thursday and it's building. it's going to tack a while for people to -- police to realize, but i had like -- i put on
facebook and it exploded, 385,000 people were reached, 6,000-something likes. i think especially -- with the show airs, i'm going to get a good response. >> a couple million viewers watching, hopefully we can help you out. we had boy scouts yesterday doing things. >> i saw that. >> a police chief from a small town handing out ribbons. starting to see folks rally around police officers and what are you hoping happens from other business owners across the country? >> already, there's one business in my area that decided to join me and offer the same deal and i hope it would continue. it should put the police on -- give them the respect they deserve. they're laying their lives on the line every day, you know, they deserve respect. >> yeah. can i try this? let's see. here we go. i'm dying to dig into this.
