4:00 pm
>> that was a great week. monday, on "special report," we have a big week ahead. we begin our coverage of president trump's middle east trip. we will be live from riyadh, saudi arabia, we go from there. we will be there for two days and then we go to doha qatar in the middle and abulbasher buoy donee at the uae. abulbasher dhabi. that's it for this "special report." have a grit mother's day. here is laura. >> laura: good evening everyone. i'm laura ingraham from washington tonight. the dems rising star does it again. >> you guys just want to win. >> so there is a lot of people that are like you know what? let's go find the safest white boy we can find. >> thanks for nothing, mayor pete. more chaos at newark. >> another brief radar outage
4:01 pm
just in case that happens again, for your purposes if you can't reach me, they are to stay 3,000 until you ever passing. >> and team trump sad ling up to take on china this weekend. >> very friendly with president xi. great respect for him and for china. we can't continue to allow them to do what they did. >> first, this is a fox news alert. a democrat mayor is sitting in jail after storming an ice facility in newark, new jersey. also in custody. that displaces housing. some democrat heroes, aka, ms-13 gang members. now, three members of congress broke in with him. but they have not been arrested. fox's alexis mcadams is live from right outside the jail where the mayor is being held. alexis, tell us. >> hey, laura, i just want to show what you is going on here in new jersey. there's a lot of people and there is a lot of chanting
4:02 pm
saying free mayor brca. they want their mayor out of this facility. i'm going to flip around and show it to you. this is where they took him. he was arrested arrested earlier this afternoon. investigators say he pushed his way into a facility. without permission, saying he couldn't go in [shouting] put your hands on me you will pay. all right. so newark mayor, members of congress, robert menendez jr., you might know his dad. he's going to be heading to a prison soon.
4:03 pm
coleman and la monica macgyver waiting to getting into the detention facility according to dhs. hauled to a detention center opened this afternoon bus full of detainees, elected officials ran inside, pushing by security also the ice facility opened earlier last month. and then expected to hold up about 1,000 migrants a day. democrats say the facility opened without permission from the city of newark. and the official demanded to go inside make sure the migrants were okay. that is what is going on out here. people aren't really happy. they are upset about what is goodsology wanted think y think, laura this is a great mayor of newark. also running for governor of new jersey. so dhs says this is a pretty big political stunt. they say congress members were never supposed to go inside in the first place. we talked to the congress members. >> laura: alexis, the people behind you are, you know, they are pulling stunts. this is clearly like a big political set-up.
4:04 pm
we will let you go and be safe there, my friend. all right, alexis, thank you. here with alexis deputy director of ice. madison, democrat congresswoman la monica macgyver says that the democrats there today at that facility were, quote: assaulted, watch. >> it is unacceptable that me as a member of congress, as a black woman here and this city was just assaulted by multiple ice officers. while regional directors of ice watched it happen. not only was assaulted of course bob menendez was roughed up as he was trying to protect us. >> laura: now, madison, u.s. attorney alina habba said that, in fact, the mayor of newark, ras baraka committed trespass. ignored multiple warnings from homeland security and basically refused to move. and has willingly chosen to
4:05 pm
disregard the law. that will not stand in this state. alina went on to say he has been taken into custody. no one is above the law. what can you add to this story tonight? i comeeltly agree not a member of law. what we see are the democrats protecting ms-13 gang members and wanting more for them than they do for the american people. i watched this in real time. from our headquarters ice agents in danger and caused unneeded protest at a facility that meets the substantiated of ice on a daily basis to house all of these illegal criminals nork mayoral claiming not meeting is i law. no notice of occupancy to use the facility? what? >> that's just not even remotely close to true. we have met all of the standards
4:06 pm
with the facility, we have opened the facility to house some of the worst of the worst in america. we have rap sheets that include child rape, kidnapping, drug trafficking, the list goes on and on. at the end of the day, ice is working to protect the american people, secretary nome leads the way in protecting the border and the interior at the direction of president trump what you are seeing are the democrats go against that time and time again and not prioritizing the american people. >> i have got say of all the political strategies i have seen in my years in washington to try to, i guess, reach out to middle america. this has got to be the backiest. some of their members of congress flew down to el salvador for abrego garcia and now this? they seem to be inviting these dust-ups with federal authorities they want to create these incidents. this all seems like more
4:07 pm
performance theater, madison. >> that's exactly what this is. this was a political doesn't done by members of congress and this mayor to collect political points against the american people and not put america first. and we see this time and time again with these members going into facilities and we have a process to provide oversight at our facilities but could have gone through that process and they chose not to disrupt the day-to-day business of ice in a way that was not necessary and including put our agents in danger. every single day they do this. >> laura: yeah. still crowds developing there. madison, thank you very much. here with more analysis jonathan faheyy and paul mauro, fox news contributor. paul, i want to start with you. the mayor is in jail on federal trespassing charge do you think this ultimately gets settled?
4:08 pm
is this what i think it is? a stunt for politican these protests? >> well, i think it is certainly a stunt. right now you got to remember the new jersey governorship is up for grabs this year. and new jersey is no secret is trending red, donald trump flipped five counties in the last election. and he brought down the margin of victory to under 6%. there is a lot of movement there for the right and in the last election, murphy vs. ciattarelli. murphy just squeaked it out. ciattarelli is running again. just speaking politically, on the left, there is a number of candidates running for the governorship including ross. trying to get to the left of each other. this is completely a political stunt. that's all it's about all his people out there demanding his release i would not expect this to be treated with kid gloves. this is an outrageous stunt
4:09 pm
alina habba does not seem to let this go. >> this is just politics. the idea that ms-13 gang members are somehow good to have in the community for african-americans. like this has a racial component is ludicrous. but they are doubling down on this race stuff. it's wild astonishing how extreme the democratic party is the way to gain status is advocating supporting ms-13 members. we saw it with, you know, maryland man over the last three or four weeks. and they always put illegal aliens ahead of the american people and in this case ahead of law enforcement. and sort of standard practice now for the democratic party to defame law enforcement and
4:10 pm
defame ice agents. every step of the way which not only put in danger today but puts them in danger in the future. dehumanizes them and makes it accept to believe resist them to harm them. so what they are doing is really unconscionable and really speaks so poorly again of the democratic party they didn't find what they were looking for when they broke into this fickets. >> they came to see the conditions inside. and those conditions aren't bad. we don't know belongs there. we knew that people are okay. it's safe. it's clean. they are feeding them. >> laura: well, paul? >> this is not how congress does oversight to just show up and try to sneak in the doors when they open the gate to do a prisoner transport, which the reporting. there is a whole host of charges that could be leveled here. you are not supposed to be getting in the way of operations of federal government.
4:11 pm
you have hardened ms-13 members and others being transported. we have congress people trying to get in the way of that. look. let's remember something. in 2016, ms-13 was firmly established on long island. donald trump took suffolk county long island for the first time since george h.w. bush. since then all of long island has gone this is a wrong headed stunt and going to regret this commitment to ms-13. hurts people. jonathan and paul thank you very much. last year the entitled pro-hamas performance artist on college campuses were running wild. the scenes of columbia, remember those and ucla? they were insane. the consequences for the agitators hardly seemed serious though. the mass disruption caused huge reputational, economic, and physical damages on campus. things seem to be changing. because with trump in office the consequences for woke universe
4:12 pm
are real. conduct to go unpunished and unrest. they could lose or at least suspended hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding. when a pro-hamas tent city popped up brooklyn college the reaction was swift. [shouting] [screams] [bleep] >> laura: more than a dozen people new details who was involved in that library take over. there were actually nonstudents involved. ahead team to face off with china over trade. commerce secretary howard lutnick is here, next.

i'm calling this segment good news friday. the tariffs and trump's plan to put pressure on china is working. of course, the media is so all-in for globalism, that they report the good news as bad
4:18 pm
news. >> we have a new measure of how president trump's tariffs have impacted the flow of chinese goods coming into the united states new figures show the value plummeted last month plummeted big time. >> already seeing ships coming from china half empty, containers half empty. >> laura: that's what the president needed to happen short-term inconvenience for long term trade in our manufacturing posture. is the press really so dug in on hating trump that they can't see any wisdom in hating this strategy? if this dragged on for several months yeah it would be can you ever politically and economically. right now trump's approach is the right one what i saw at the white house very bullish on where links things are redheaded with the team. >> what scott bessent negotiating with china this weekend? >> we have to make a great deal for america. >> are you disappointed if he comes back without a deal? >> no, not at all.
4:19 pm
we already made a great deal. we're not doing business with china. 1 trillion. not going to do business with him: i want china to president xi i have great respect for him. china. but we can't continue to allow them to do what they did. >> consistency america first how ring. trump's optimism is well-founded isn't it bettered that the united states is starting these talks with china's back up against the wall economically? remember, there is no substitution for the u.s. markets. and thanks to trump's bold moves with tariffs, we have the leverage no other president dared or cared to use. and trump's exercise of leverage was also evident in the u.k. deal announced on thursday that he alluded to in those comments. now, imagine if we had a news
4:20 pm
media that was actually unbiased, let's say even 50% of the time covering these stories. because, the president estimates that a trade deal with the u.k. will bring inasmuch as $100 billion to the united states. of course, it's just dismissed by the usual crowd at cnn. this is low hanging fruit. i would say actually something the biden administration could have had in terms of the trade deal with the u.k. and they just didn't want to for a variety of reasons u.k. has been ego fora deal. not a trade deficit a trade surplus. a little different than the other countries. >> >> laura: no kidding, maggie. trump got billions of dollars for the united states. you get it? you get why that's a good thing? and if biden could have done it as she said, why didn't he? more good news after seeing native born americans get shafted in hiring, we finally have a president who is turning things around on that score. because the number of employed native born people has grown for
4:21 pm
three straight months by over a million last month. april 2025. while the foreign born numbers shrank by 400,000. illustrates, the number of employed foreign born workers has dropped in two of the past three months. told you it was good news friday. commerce secretary howard lutnick you saw him in the oval yesterday. he has been embedded in these trade talks instrumental in them over the last month, especially with the first deal announced with the u.k., mr. secretary, thank you very much for joining us on a busy friday night. you heard what the "new york times" reporter, commentator said that oh, well, the u.k. deal, that was just low-hanging fruit. really? >> wow, i mean, can you imagine making up something more silly than that? i mean, the biden administration didn't even talk to them. i mean, imagine, they opened
4:22 pm
their market for the first time in 30 years for 5 billion in exports, while paying us 6 billion a year in tariffs. yeah, sure, i could have done that one person in the whole world could have done that and that's how president donald trump. >> now, the talks this weekend with china are preliminary, but the presiden that 145% level, which he had already conceded was high and it wasn't sustainable. but, down to, perhaps, 80. some people were talking 50. i know you guys have been going back and forth. talk about that a little bit, because, of course, the democrats are painting that as a walkback or trump, you know, clearly was bitten by this whole process so he is scaling back his ambition. >> you got to be kidding me. i mean, look, i agree 145% as the president said, do you know
4:23 pm
what that is? that is decoupling, you don't do business that way. as you hear, of course, as the president said the boats are just turning back around and going back, i think the president was like to work it out with china as he said he would like to do escalate it but look he is not going to live with a trillion dollars deficit. he is just not going to do it. de-escalate and get trade deals with the rest of the world. cut our trade deficit down. let's grow our g.d.p. i think the president can grow our g.d.p. 3 percent. i mean, i think this president has got it right. he's got it dead right. and he's doing everything he is supposed to be doing. and i can't be more excited. >> laura: talk about the process here. i know you can't give us all the specifics, but, president trump is one of these guys. >> i think we got a deal with the u.k. mr. president. and he listens, right? he says get me a better deal. you actually have to go back and
4:24 pm
then you have to negotiate the better deal than the good deal than you just got. hard for the american people. i like that. >> totally, so we looked on this for 45 days. we work every line items. this is a detailed, detailed line, cereal, machinery. line by line we get it all done. right? we get it all done. we get it all packaged up. i'm working morning, noon and night on the deal. i sit down with donald trump, i said okay, here's the deal. it's beautiful, it's in a bow. $4 billion worth of opening market, 6 billion in revenues he goes, let's go over it. i can make it better. i'm like i have done everything i can. he says i'm going to make it better. he picks up the phone. he calls starmer and he makes the deal and he adds a billion dollars of new exports to the deal. and he says to him, come on, just wrap it up right now on the phone and you will be on the press conference tomorrow and we will see how great it is. and he just pushes the guy, i
4:25 pm

4:26 pm
markets. he sends his team in and says let's de-escalate but with a view that he we are going to make a good deal for america. >> laura: is there a strong chance that the current tariffs will be completely paused after this weekend's talks? >> >> no chance. [laughter] no chance. >> no way. no way. >> >> let's say they have great meeting and maybe a general understanding that we are going to talk again. we want to make progress the 145 stay in place or moved down? >> no, no. they down to a human level. right? to a level where we do business there are significant tariffs. on trade with china. that is his objective. that's his exception that should be everybody's exception. but 145% is decoupling.
4:27 pm
let's not do business with each other. let's bring it down to a level he knows where did we come out with the bond liberation day. 44% is where he came out on liberation day. that's the study that he did. put it up higher. that's the idea. 0% to the fentanyl if they stop doing the fentanyl, that will come off but we can't live mean there a little higher, little lower, donald trump will make the deal with the chinese to deescalate and then go forward from there making deals with everyone in the world. and then we will sit down with china and try to work out the right deal for america with china.

4:35 pm
let me explain why this is so important. if tish james is willing to lie about something like a mortgaged damage application, what wouldn't she lie about? this is a woman who staked her entire campaign on getting trump. no one is above the law. here to weigh in on this issue david schoen former trump impeachment attorney. david, now she just -- she says all discredited we know that allegations are discredited. what part of them have been discredited? >> no part discredited other than a letter that her attorney, abbe lowell wrote to the attorney general pam bondi. now, abbe lowell is a fine lawyer and happens to be a friend of mine. but the letter is the epitome of hypocrisy i would have to say starts out complaining, whining on behalf of ms. james that this is political retribution. i would say to you that i don't remember any political figure
4:36 pm
out for more political retribution than letitia james was against donald trump unless it was alvin bragg or fani willis in atlanta. this was clearly the epitome of weapons of the criminal justice system by letitia james and the civil justice system and the office of attorney general and she continues to boast about it and to threaten more of the same. yet, in the letter from her lawyer, he complains that this seems to be political retribution. and in terms of discrediting it, he actually excuses, attempts to excuse her conduct by saying there were mistakes that were made. for example in the virginia loan application it was a mistake that was made that said it would be her primary residence. she wasn't quite so forgiving of any mistakes by donald trump or anyone else. it was a mistake by her father in the statement about the house in brooklyn. we will see what happens. everyone is entitled to the presumption of innocence but there is investigation now and it -- as it appears from this evidence there should be. >> oh, there is a -- i mean, to
