jon: fbi's pouring in resources or try to catch the seven escaped inmates on the run after breaking out of the new orleans prison. authorities warned some of the criminals might have left louisiana. officials are urging the public to remain alert. karoline elliott is live with the latest on that case. >> oh well louisiana attorney general's had state officials have reached out to neighboring
1:17 pm
states saying these missing inmates could be quote frankly anywhere as it has now been three days since the 10 inmates and busted out of jail in new orleans. law enforcement quickly captured the three of the missing inmates on friday. there's been no additional arrests announced over the weekend for the state's top attorney also described the jailbreak as unacceptable. it says local officials waited too long to let the public know. >> here they've had a lot of lead time which is very concerning. look at got a lot of questions i don't have all the answers yet. >> the escape happened on friday morning just after 1:00 a.m. jail staff did not even realize the inmates were missing until a headheadcount almost eight hours later. the new orleans parish sheriff said there's no doubt in her mind this was an inside job. >> this is very suspicious. we know it they had help. we are showing you they had help.
1:18 pm
this was coordinated there's much more than meets the eye. >> as of this afternoon authorities are still searching for these seven inmates and those missing including suspects charged with murder and other violent crimes. the fbi and atf are offering a $5000 reward for any information leading to an arrest. in the meantime we are expecting more information and an update from investigators in the next hour. jon: scary times in that part of the country. thank you. ♪ the judge overseeing idaho college murders at trial given the defense one last chance to try to convince him to allow them to present an alternate perpetrator theory to the jury. >> i have received the defenses proper regarding alternate perpetrators. that will be sealed. provide me with whatever actual evidence you have that supports
1:19 pm
those allegations. rather than just allegations. jon: let's let's bring in and sd not leave the host of law and crime network. when you hear the judges say bring me the evidence. that sounds like the did not include actual evidence it just sort of put forward some theories or something. >> it certainly sounds like that. thank you so much for having made the charge has been pretty clear. they are going to have to meet certain guidelines for him to allow this alternate perpetrator theory in. the defense is already indicated they are going to go with a theory there were two killers and two weapons involved they have an expert who's going to testify for them there were two weapons involved in these crimes because the injuries to the four victims in the case were different because of possibly by
1:20 pm
two different weapons. it will be interesting to see what they alternately present as you heard the judges say these are under seal right now we do not know who they are offering up as these alternate suspects. there is case law and idaho that they have to meet eight certain standards or to present this evidence to the jury. the key is a dna found on the knife the authorities say it is bryan kohberger dna even if there was someone else involved it would seem the case against kohberger is pretty strong. >> it doesn't seemed like a very strong piece of evidence. we do not know how exactly the defense is going to attack that. it is kohberger's dna on the knife sheath. they suggested it could've been transferred onto the knife sheath by someone else. they have always said in the
1:21 pm
pretrial hearings how did the knife sheath to get there? it will be interesting to see how the defense explains bryan kohberger in dna being on internet snap of the knife sheath i have one of those sheaths here in my office. i could show it to you in just a second period it's on the inner snap of the knife sheath. they did not test the top button they tested the inner snap. that is where the dna was found. plus they have amazon records that show that bryan kohberger or someone in his family they are suggesting public possibly somewhat in his family could have purchased the knife sheath, could have bought the knife sheath, sharpener and knife march 22 months and months were for the homicides. jon: in the meantime there's a huge controversy about evidence nbc dateline was able to put on error. they have actual footage of what they say is kohberger's car
1:22 pm
soaking the crime scenes and then racing away from the killings. there are some other very incriminating pieces of evi evidence. all of that stuff was supposed to be under seal. here are some of it. kohberger at&t cell phone records photos and information associated with his amazon account. and again at the top of the surveillance footage of what police say it was his car. the judge is not happy about this. >> you know, the judge is furious. he did not show a lot of emotion during that hearing the other day but he is furious and heat once a special prosecutor appointed to investigate the source of this leak or he wants the leaker or leakers that could be more than one person linking this information. this is information only law enforcement or the prosecutors would've been privy to. they had actual information from bryan kohberger's phone.
1:23 pm
they had photographs, selfies of him his google searches, they had his amazon records. some of which we knew about him pretrial motion. they had insider information they said that in an interview that keith morrison did with a reporter they said they had the goods they felt like they had a lot of the evidence that would be presented at trial. so they got it from a inside source the judges said in the order he presented to the prosecution, or drink them to preserve all communication and records he suspected it was likely a member of the prosecution team, a former member of the prosecution team a member of law enforcement or may be a former member of law enforcement he suspects this leak came from the state side of thing not the defense. jon: whoever released that were probably thinking they would help buttress the case against bryan kohberger but could result in suppression of some of the evidence on being thrown out of the case we will see.
1:24 pm
>> it's very possible the judge said it could make it much harder to see a jury he may have to end up sequestering the jury. jon: it's good to talk to you thank you. >> thank you. jon: continuing to monitor the breaking news about former president joe biden, his office just revealed the 46 the president has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. they say the cancer has metastasized to his bone the president and his family are reviewing treatment options we will speak with dr. marc siegel coming up. we will take a quick break righu now. need to prepare for unpredictable adventures... 1:29 pm
madeleine rivera she is live at the white house force. madeline. >> hate john yes we just got this information within the last half hour or so i do want to read the statement from the personal office of former president joe biden. it says last week president joe biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. on friday he was diagnosed with prostate cancer characterized by gleason score of nine great group of five with meant assassins to the bone this represents a more aggressive form of the disease that cancer appears to be more hormone sensitive which allows for effective management. the president and his reviewing treatment options with his physicians are headlines and concerns regarding the president's cognitive help it's one of the reasons he was pushed out of the presidential candidacy at last year. there been a very few headlines or concerns regarding the present preston's own physical health i went back to see with the results were from his physical last year it said
1:30 pm
president biden is a healthy active robust 81-year-old male who execute the duties of the presidency to include those ad's at'schief executive had estate d commander-in-chief. so it's kind of shocking at this point. the president i been thinking back to some of the activities we have seen him do as a former president was very active we could see him go biking whenever he would go down there with his family he was very physically fit and active at least for his age. this is shocking news we are waiting to hear more information. now of course abide and be in the former president will be afforded some of the best care in the country he's 82 years old there are understandably concerns about how his treatment may go as well. i do want to refer to one part of that statement they said this time this cancer appears to be hormone sensitive allows for effective management so there is that help the president will be able to withstand whatever treatment he does go through
1:31 pm
again at this point this statement says an aggressive form of bone cancer. of prostate cancer excuse me, we are waiting to hear more information that we could see it comcome out of the news today. jon: thanks very much. >> you've got it. jon: the spring and dr. marc siegel fox news a senior medical analyst. let me read again from the news release wit route from former president biden's office. it says he was diagnosed with prostate cancer characterized by a gleason score of nine grade group five with metastasis to the bone. that does not sound good. >> gleason nine means at that very aggressive form of cancer and a group five means that within that it's the most aggressive type. that means it has the highest risk of spread which obviously he has had.
1:32 pm
he is presenting with urinary symptoms and i want the viewer to know that most of the time prostate cancer will be asymptomatic when it reaches the point you're already having urinary symptoms, that's also a sign it's pretty far advanced. when they say it is a hormone responsive that likely means they think by decreasing testosterone that could be eight testostatestosterone dependent r that it will respond the two types of therapy they use for that is one called a lupron which stops testosterone production the other is a drug which stops testosterone from binding. they also might decide, and i do not know this. sometimes they decide to do more than one therapy they might try to take the prostate out, do radiation and the hormone therapy altogether. that is not uncommon.
1:33 pm
over 80% of men over the age of 80 have some prostate cancer cells and their body. this is a very high likelihood and all men. if it is this far advanced, meaning gleason nine testa size to the bone the five year survival rate is somewhere between 30 and 40%. again depending upon how well he responsive therapy. one of the questions on everyone's mind and you just heard this from the reporter what about last year's psa? this was found by physical examination by prostate exam. a lot of times a finding elevation and prostate specific antigen at psa we go after get an mri. he must've had the best possible care here. i am a little taken aback it's this far advanced and very, very concerned about it. jon: is a question as when jesse was a former president of the united states he's supposed to be getting as you said the best medical care in the world.
1:34 pm
and yet a few months after he leaves office this prostate cancer is advanced enough it has metastasized to the bone. that's just not good. >> you know. we do not have enough information for me too be sure of the following statement. i want everyone to know the psa though it's a really great test and i do it on every male over the age of 45, sometimes it can be low and you still could have this it is not one 100%. i'm not saying his was low it was not written -- mckay do not recall it being indicated there. but if it's how you go after it. and again to reach the point of symptoms most of the time we can diagnose it before. although it may very well be he's hormone responsive and that's what we are we're hopingd praying for here. we are looking to save the radiation oncologist says are they going to give radiation? they've advanced radiation therapy dramatically for
1:35 pm
prostate cancer they can target it they can use the seeds. it has less side effects than it used too and the same thing with robotic is unbelievable n not getting the prostate out. a lot of times the prostate would be taken out they would give radiation and then get the hormone therapy. they are not saying that at this point. jon: it is as you say one of the most treatable forms of cancer. but you have to catch it fairly early, right? >> you have to catch it if you catch it will instill within the capsule within the prostate itself it is incurable most of the time when it has metastasized like to the bone much less so. and again this aggressive, very concerning. it means it probably spread pretty fast. they might try to radiate the lesion they found on the bone for their deathly going to hormone therapy they will know more in a few months about how responsive it is when the goal is to get it before it leaves the prostate.
1:36 pm
what has left the prostate it becomes much more difficult to cure. jon: dr. siegel's over this for a moment. we want to check in with senior white house correspondent peter doocy. peter you are there at the white house for the full run of the biden administration. are you as surprised as i am at this news? regarding the former president. we are looking for peter doocy senior white house correspondent are you able to hear me? alright, we have lost our connection with peter doocy will try to reestablish that and get back to him in just a moment. in terms of other symptoms, other problems this might cause the former president the fact they are going to be treating him for this prostate cancer, dr. siegel, is there anything in particular that's going to
1:37 pm
afflict in anything particularly uncomfortable or i don't know bothersome i guess from this treatment regimen? >> that is a really great question. that is one of the reasons i am thinking maybe they would take the prostate out which is to decrease the amount of urinary symptoms and the same with radiation. i am assuming it is not gone anywhere else than the bone not to the brain, not to the liver. but the other thing i am concerned about is bone pain those metastases to the bone can be pretty painful which is another reason they would radiate that too and tried to decrease it so it would not cause pain. the other thing you are alluding to is what about the side effects of the medication? they can make you pretty fatigued that is the main thing. they make you pretty fatigued and listless and not quite yourself. that is what we would look out for pit for sure he's going
1:38 pm
feeding lupron. jon: again and dr. siegel said y was we reestablished our connection with peter doocy. i mentioned before you were in the white house for the run of the by administration. does it surprise you that just months after he left office we are finding out he's got a fairly advanced case of prostate cancer? obviously the gremlins are in the audio room tonight because we cannot establish a connection with peter doocy or senior white house correspondent. so dr. siegel again you are not treating the former president but obviously you know a lot about how this is treated. and the success rate is generally pretty good you are saying. but we can expect some tough
1:39 pm
times may be some uncomfortable times for the far president? >> it's going to be a quickly he response to early treatment. he's already having urinary symptoms pretty want to reverse that so does not get urinary obstruction. again the bone and the bone pain. i suspect up full-court press over the first three -- six months we should know how well he is responding. it's both good and they are saying it will be responding to hormone therapy. that is good but the aggressive part of this is that is been identified as gleason nine and group five which is the most aggressive kind we have. may very well be why this spread so quickly without your question to peter doocy anyone knowing about this. it will be really surprising if they were not doing a very close screening on this because everybody knows of the medical community this is the one cancer in men you really look out for. and as i said 80% of those over
1:40 pm
the age of 80 years old have some prostate cancer cells no matter what. he does not seem to have a lot of risk factors i would think about other than age but age is enough he is 82 so that's a big risk factor for. >> i get that psa test every time i get my annual physical my doctor watches the numbers very closely. if you are saying that psa test is not always a perfect indicator? >> we have middle ranges. we look at trends it is under it for what we call it normal but if it goes from two -- three or three -- four, we start to look carefully at the trend. and usually we have time, at least a month to decide what to do next part out of the other things that has advanced dramatically as mra of the prostate it's hugely different than we are trying but 10 years ago it targets things but it finds abnormal areas. it can give you an index of suspicion in a particular area
1:41 pm
can zone in on where they think the prostate cancer is, if it is that. so somebody with the rise in psa who automatically gets an mri and that the decision is made whether to do a targeted biopsy. this is not that situation because in this situation he already had advanced symptoms and he already had advanced metastatic prostate cancer again that horses out of the barn definitely going to see that. that does not mean he won't respond right away and we hope you will. six or eight dr. siegel stick with this. peter doocy are you able to hear me? >> yes i've got you. jon: is good to know. again, peter this is the most important job in the world, are you surprised just months after he left office joe biden is diagnosed with a form of prostate cancer and apparently has been with him for a while? >> it is very sad to hear. as far as the diagnosis, we just
1:42 pm
note what we are told white house officials assured us through basically july of last year that he was healthy enough to continue serving. after july 21 when he dropped out there's a lot less scrutiny on whether or not on his physical and the specifics. who knows how long they've actually known about it. cancer is central to joe biden. he talked so much the impact it has had on him. we note joe biden as president t did everything that he could to try to keep himself as healthy as possible. as a trainer coming over to the white house twice a week or something like that in the morning. he had to get special permission to use a peloton because of the network, they do not like to have extra wi-fi network in the
1:43 pm
residence of the president. it's a very sad diagnosis. he draws formed a personal office. did not hear anything from them for the first couple months post- presidency. and the first e-mail i received from the personal office of joe biden and the new spokesman they hired was with the news of this diagnosis. jon: i also recall i believe when he was serving as a vice president under president obama, wasn't he put in charge of what they called a moon shot cancer initiative where he was going to be in charge of ending cancer once and for all in this country in the world? >> i was inspired a lot by the terrible experience he had watching his son grow weaker and weaker and eventually passed away from cancer.
1:44 pm
that something we heard a fair amount about early in his presidency and then he got sidetracked with other things and we heard less about it. i am sure knowing joe biden and his connections to all the cancer researchers i'm sure he will be getting the very best advice and best treatment. it is still a really sad, it is sad to hear. jon: nobody wants to face it and perhaps we can put the statement up on the screen again. this news just broke within the last hour from the office of the former president. last week president joe biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. on friday he was diagnosed with prostate cancer characterized by a gleason score of nine grade group five with metastasis to the bone.
1:45 pm

1:50 pm
condition or feeling you could say versus some that are a little more uncomfortable. can you take us through those, doctor? >> 's i was saying taking the prostate out has now reached a proportion where it is much easier for you to do without blood loss easily through a robot through a small incision in the abdomen and take out the whole process with robot arms in a matter of our two and recover you go home the next day or even the same day. that's dramatic improvement on top of that, radiation's got a lot more pinpoint and better tolerated. you get a lot of irritation from radiation but it's totally different than it used to be they might want to radiate the bone. in terms of hormone treatment since the white house is already revealed that its hormone responsive which to me means i
1:51 pm
will respond to anti- testosterone treatments including lupron and others. that is good news and they expected to shrink and just drink the metastases. the other potentially good news is they did not seem to find it anywhere else. the biggest side effects i worry about with the anti- hormone therapy is fatigue. it causes a lot of fatigue and i'm concerned about pain of the urinary symptoms he is currently experiencing. he could go into urinary retention. they may be able to prevent that by treating quickly print the other thing i want to point out by the way which i have not said yet is whether or not to do a psa the prostate specific antigen. peter doocy made a really good points he has only -- mickey has not been under-'s last physical at the white house was february 2024. that is over a year ago and now he has been under his private docks.

there is not a consensus whether to do a psa over the age of 80. from either the american neurological association or the preventive services task force. they tend to recommend against it in such an elderly person. i always dude and elderly people because the philosophies toward medicine is i want to know what is going on so i can figure out how to pursue it. you do not have the biopsy everyone based on a number but the numbers good to know. i'm not in any way, shape, or form it or did not have that test but that's a useful test. jon: i am clearly not a doctor that's why we are talking to dr. siegel. on the statement says that cancer appears to have metastasize to the bone that sounds ominous to me. bone cancer can be very painful if it is in the bone can you stop it? >> hopefully they could stop it if it's with the hormone therapy

i think if you were a neutral reporter and you covered a president or anyone you would extend your sympathies and best wishes to them. and i certainly do. i think from a political angle, it will absolutely set aside the health issues which is private but also a story as the former president, it will also raise questions again about his decision to run for reelection. a lot of those questions were focused on his mental acuity. but his age of course also means there is a higher likelihood of having diagnoses and diseases that come as you get older. no doubt it will rehash some of those conversations just as some of those have been rehashed in the recent days as new books about the biden presidency come out. jon: as the conversations that e had with special counsel robert hur are released there and calls
