10:01 am
hello, trey. >> reporter: yeah, mike, good afternoon. we are we can exclusively report according to an israeli official that the israelis have targeted iranian gas infrastructure near the southern iranian city of bandar,, abbas. i am told by this official it was meant to send a warning to the iranian regime as iran uses ballistic missiles to target major population centers in israel. the israelis want the regime to know they have the capability to conduct precision-guided strikes, and they can ramp up those strikes targeting the country's energy infrastructure. behind me you can see the aftermath of one of those ballistic missile strikes last night. there were four waves of missiles streaming through the skies of this country, many of them slamming into the ground below. at this location we are told by officials that two people were killed, 100 evacuated from these buildings in the center part of israel. israel launched a series of new

airstrikes against targets in iran, a 150 in total according to the idf. new reporting after speaking with a senior israeli intelligence official who says 40 different air defense sites in iran were targeted. the idf says they have air superiority over tehran, the source saying iran is still expected to launch more missiles into israel in the days ahead and has a total of approximately 2,000 ballistic missiles in its arsenal. this official says, quote, we have lots of surprises. not just the ones we already did, more surprises coming up. but again, the latest information that we have according to an israeli official tonight, they have struck with a single airstrike iranian energy infrastructure near the city of bandar abbas. this is gas infrastructure and, again, meant to send a message to the iranian regime that israel can ramp up these strikes with precision in contrast to the way that the iranians have been firing on population centers like the one behind me,
10:03 am
targeting a variety of different locations across this country. mike. mike: and to that point, trey, israeli officials have also warned they could hit tehran and do significant damage, right, if they want to. >> reporter: yeah, absolutely. we've been talking with officials across the board here trying to get an understanding of what might come next in all of this, and today say israel will pay a price for this operation. they are bracing this country for days of missile attacks ahead. but in terms of the targets they can hit, they did not target anyone from the political echelon in the iranian regime. the early targets in those initial waves focused on leadership from the irgc. they took out general sal my, a man responsible for plannings missile attacks and ensuring the iranians had an expanding ballistic missile program. they came do -- aimed to create 8,000 ballistic missiles in the next two years, and this was one of just a few reasons why the
10:04 am
iranians are being targeted now, because of this expanding ballistic missile program and their expanding nuclear program. so in terms of the possible targets around the iranian capital, we can expect those to ramp up in the hours and days ahead. and i can tell you scenes like the one behind me in central us israel where there are civilians killed trying to get to shelters, it sends a message to israeli leadership that this is going to continue and that there will be difficult days ahead. but it also speaks to the targets that the iranians are choosing to hit. while the isis reillys struck this -- israelis struck gas infrastructure with their strike earlier today, overnight the iranians targeted women and children here in this area. and we were at one of the sites in central israel in the second largest city of tel aviv last night after it was hit with part of a ballistic missile, and i can tell you that the scene -- it was very sad. you saw these children if being carried out -- by their parents, elderly people being rushed out by rescue workers and a

population that fears for what comes next in the hours and days ahead. mike: trey yingst doing a phenomenal job on this breaking news, thank you very much. back to our top story, law enforcement officers are in an active manhunt in minnesota for suspects in the targeted attack on state legislators. we are awaiting a news conference this hour. my colleague, brooke taylor, is tracking this for us. hello, brooke. >> reporter: hi, mike. well, all of this is happening right now as those no king protests are expected across the country. so officials there are telling people do not attend these protests. there's a shelter in place and a massive manhunt underway for this killer. overnight democratic state representative melissa hortman and her husband, they were killed at their home in brooklyn park, minnesota. just a few miles away from there, in champlin, democratic senator john hoffman and his wife were also shot.
10:06 am
they are expected to be okay. now, governor tim walz, he is calling this a politically-motivated assassination. when officers got to hortman's home around 3 a.m., they came face to face with the shooter who managed to escape after. listen to this. >> they noticed there was a police vehicle in the driveway with the emergency lights on and what appeared to be a police officer at the door coming out of the house. when our officers confronted him, the individual immediately fired upon the officers who exchanged gunfire, and the suspect retreated back into the home. >> reporter: and president trump has responded to this. he wrote, quote, i have been briefed on the terrible shooting that took place in minnesota which appears to be a targeted attack against state lawmakers. our attorney general, pam bondi, and the fbi are investigateing the -- investigating the situation, they'll be prosecuting anyone involved to the fullest extent of the law.

such horrific violence will simply not be tolerated in the united states of america. god bless the great people of minnesota, a truly great place. again, another press conference expected to kick off, you just saw a live view there, in just a few moments. so we'll see if there is any updates but really devastating news. a massive manhunt right now as today try and find who is responsible for these two attacks. and, again, as you heard from police, he was dressed in a police officer's uniform, so a lot of questions right now that we're waiting to get answers to. mike. mike: let's hope they find the killer or killers. brooke taylor reporting live, thanks very much. for reaction to the deadly shooting in minnesota, let's bring in former fbi potential agent and former federal prosecutor jonathan fahey. gentlemen, welcome back. great to have you. governor tim walz has asked people to stay home and not go to any political protests across the state of minnesota today until this gets sorted out,
10:08 am
until a killer is caught or suspects are caught. >> i think that's a very wise move. you're going to have a lot of police presence, right in a lot of cops. and not all the cops are going to know each other. so if there are more players in this horrific act, if there's a cell of operators that are going to dress up as police and go to these protests and create more violence, think about what a nightmare scenario that comes. this is absolutely the right way and the right address to take. they cannot allow this to happen. i'm just very afraid more violence will happen. i'm also concerned about copycat issues occurring at ore protests. this is going to be a tough day to get through. mike: jonathan, our former federal prosecutor. presumably, if the suspect was in a car, there may be dna all over that car. there's evidently a manifesto, so they would be aware now of a target list. your thoughts on the investigation at this stage. >> a couple things that stand
10:09 am
out from the press conference, i don't think if we have clarity if it's one person or more than one, so i would like to find that out at the next press conference, because i think that's important. the other thing is they came face to face with this individual, and presumably they've interviewed the victims that survived. they should have some sort of description at this point, i'm not sure why they haven't put that out there. and there may be reasons for that i just don't know, so those are two things that strike me as interesting. yeah, they're going to have a lot of probably forensic evidence. and my guess is this person will be caught, it's just will he be caught before something else bad happens, and my guess is they'll have ample evidence, you know, the firearm to link him to the manifesto and other types of things like that. but i think the main thing is what can they do to catch him, pick sure nobody else gets killed or harmed in the process of capturing him, and i think that's the most challenging thing right now. mike: remember -- ren, what will you be listening for?
10:10 am
>> the police were very proactive here. this is an important detail. they may have foiled what was going to be a lot more killings. we don't know how many names were on that manifesto, but the police had the foresight to go, hey, we've got to check on these other legislators. he was not prepared for. that's i'm guessing that there were other people that he was going to kill. so this is a big position, i think, by the police doing an excellent job proactively to get in front of this and may have saved a lot of lives. what i'm looking for now is one thing critical is how many people they believe are involved, and we really need the public's help on this because if there's other chatter, maybe this guy was talking about this plan, maybe he was bragging about doing it to somebody else, babe somebody's aware of some other -- maybe somebody's aware of some other part of this plan, that's critical. so if they can get us a name or a picture of minute, we know they likely have this information already, the officers probably had body
10:11 am
cameras on. they were engaged shooting with this guy, they likely have video, a ring camera video maybe if they have that the as well, interviews with the witnesses if they're able to provide a detailed description. it's about safety right now, so we still need to catch this guy. we can do the investigation, right? that evidence is not going anywhere. we're going to have the dna and the fingerprints and ballistics, lots of that. right now we need to stop the threat. this is a very tricky thing. he's likely wearing body armor, so now you're thinking head shots. a rifle likely will penetrate that depending on what type of vest he has on, but it's another level of complexity. we really need to figure out who else is involved, is this a lone wolf situation or other people involved? that's a critical part of this. mike: for those just joining us, this guy evidently had a police uniform, what appeared to be a badge, had a weapon, was driving a vehicle that looked like a police car. you're an elected official, you get a knock on the door at one or two in the morning and it's a
10:12 am
police uniform, you probably let your guard down thinking the good guys are here. >> yeah, exactly. and that's what most people do particularly in most safer neighborhoods. the police are the allies of people, and they assume they're there to provide them some help or maybe provide some notification or something. so it's going to be a very scary situation not just in these areas, but other places throughout the country because, you know, everyone's going to now be, maybe be a little more suspicious of police when they come to the door which might put them in more danger, put the police in more danger. so this will have repercussions far beyond this immediate neighborhood and victims because people's interactions with police will change. and that's unfortunate for public safety and for the police force. >> one with other thing is he was very smart, he put the lights on. he had blue lights flashing at tree in the morning, probably el human nateing the neighborhood. you see the blue -- illuminating the neighborhood. you see the blue lights, that
10:13 am
that level of detail is very interesting as well because maybe somebody dressed as a police officer at night with no blue lights, i mean, that level of detail, this guy's very, very meticulous about how he's doing this. and all the more reason we have to make sure this guy is caught and quickly, because he's capable of anything. he obviously knows what he's doing. mike: jonathan, what will you be listening for when we get an update from authorities, presumably any moment now? >> i think clarity on how many people f they do know, maybe some information on the description if they have one, because i think that could be quite helpful to find out. i think if they have information, what they have about the no kings protests, that might be interesting, to maybe get sort of an idea, is this a lone wolf, could it be a coordinated type of activity because what ren was talking about, this could be beyond this individual, it could be a lone wolf situation, and you don't want to jump to the conclusion, certainly, that it's just limited to this person because it could be a broader sort of conspiracy or other type of
10:14 am
thing. so i think those types of things, what's the information, what are the details, what do we know about this individual because, again, the main thing is capturing him for public safety. mike: jonathan, ren, let's bring into the conversation republican nominee for manhattan district attorney maude marin. maude, welcome. >> thank you so much. mike: your thoughts about this investigation in minnesota from the facts we know at this hour. >> right. well, first of all, my sincere condolences to the family of the victims and also prayers for those wore in the hospital right now fighting for their -- who are in the hospital right now fighting for their lives. i think governor walz actually got it correct when he asked people to stay home from the planned protests today because this is clearly, you know, a live situation is. and as some of your former guests have said, it's certainly not clear if this was a lone wolf acting alone or whether there are other people. so prioritizing the investigation and giving the police the ability to conduct that the information right
10:15 am
now -- investigation right now really has to take the top priority in the community. mike: as i mentioned, you're running for district attorney in manhattan. you clearly have concerns about the way things are being prosecuted in blue cities like new york city. what about those concerns going forward as you look at potentially being the new enforcer in manhattan? >> well, you know, this is a very busy news day. in addition to the tragedy that we see unfolding in minnesota, we see this large protest planned across the country. we've seen breaking news stories about, you know, detainees from the ninth circuit decision we just saw. all of this points to how incredibly important it is for the prosecutor's office in any city, but certainly in new york city and manhattan, to not be political. we can't play politics with our prosecutor's office. we need prosecutors to do their job which is to prosecute the bad guys, to come to the aid of the crime victims and to make
10:16 am
our cities safer for all of us who live here, for those who visit new york city. and we really need to focus on having a prosecutor who isn't playing politics. and saadly -- sadly and unfortunately for new yorkers, that has not been alvin bragg's focus. mike: as one who who -- someone who's running for public office at this point, what was your personal reaction to hearing this news today out of minnesota? >> you know, i think it's really tragic, and it makes it -- it absolutely, 100% deters good people from stepping up and running when they see this kind of violence certainly. but even if you take a step back from this sort of horrific violence, we see targeted harassment and really unforgivable rhetoric aimed at people who merely disagree with you about political issues. and i think we should all take the moment to turn the it down and to just say i disagree with your ideas, i think i have better ideas, but to stop characterizing those who we
10:17 am
disagree with as somehow undemocratic or un-american or bad. we are all american. some of us have different ideas about how to make our cities safer and our country better. mike: so basically, bringing the temperature down on both sides. maud maron, thank you for your time and analysis today. let's go to michael balboni who's a former ohmland security official out of the great -- homeland security official out of the great state of new york. welcome back. we do expect an update from authorities in minnesota. where's your mind going at this point? what questions do you have if you were in the room? >> so i served on domestic terrorism tasking force sponsored by the governor's office for new york state, and we looked at a lot of different organizations that have come together. what we find is there's been a rise in the number of domestic terrorism organizations not necessarily actions, but certainly threats, plots,
10:18 am
planning. and you take a look at this and you take a look at what their activities have been, assassination of individuals is absolutely a part of the way that they see to bring about political change. you know, there's a group referred to as sovereign citizens that does -- this group does not recognize any government's forces in the united states. no civil authorities, no military authorities, no law enforcement authorities. and so the question becomes, was this very well planned out assassination attempt of a state-level official in their home in the middle of the night, was this done as a part of a broader effort to try to move some of these agendas, say, a domestic terrorism group. that's got to be top of mind for anybody who's looking at this specific situation. otherwise why minnesota state represent incentive even speaker, i believe former speaker of the house.
10:19 am
why pick this individual and do it in such a way? what was behind this? it seems like it was -- because there was another legislator involved. it doesn't seem like it was something that was a particular beef, right, or argument, right, with this particular legislator. of course, the first rule of any investigation is you let the evidence take you where it takes you. you don't have any presumptions as to where this is all going to lead. but to answer your question, as a former homeland security adviser in new york, i'm thinking, boy, let's make sure this is not a part of a broader effort from a domestic terrorism perspective. mike: michael balboni, grateful for your time and analysis today, sir. thank you so much. >> welcome. mike: much more ahead, "fox news live." please stay with us. ♪ ♪♪ super helpful. ♪♪
