This report was by MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc. with contributions by URS Corporation, National Park Service staff, and SOHA Engineers, Inc. (SOHA). The report includes: 1. Geotechnical sampling, laboratory testing and engineering analysis evaluating the material strengths and stability of the coastal bluffs and landfill deposits now, during landfill removal operations and post-remediation. 2. An extensive Cultural Resource Baseline and Impact Assessment prepared by URS with assistance from NPS personnel. This assessment documents the historic features in the landfill area that contribute to the Presidioâs National Historic Landmark designation, and includes recommendations for avoiding and/or mitigating construction impacts on the historic resources. 3. A baseline structural inspection of the historic coastal batteries prepared by SOHA documenting the current conditions of the coastal fortifications and providing recommendations for monitoring the fortifications during the remediation work.
This work shows that the Baker Beach 1 and 2 project can protect human and ecological receptors from waste effects and preserve and enhance the important historical resources located in the work area.
