This is a recording of a staged one act play produced by New Hampshire Theatre Project, directed by Genevieve Aichele and starring the late Lisa Richardson. The play was adapted by Jim Kelly from his story, "Breakaway, Backdown" which originally appeared in Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine in June, 1996. Subject: Great Writing, Great Acting, Great Listening
It's Sept. 3rd 2016 and I feel blessed having just enjoyed Lisa's acting and Jim's writing.
Everything I've ever read from Jim Kelly inspires, informs, and delights me!
I'm a listener of Librivox which is filled with stories 50 or more years old. I feel like Kelly belongs there, along with Philip K. Dick, Bradbury, Randall Garrett, Fritz Lieber etc. EXCEPT that Kelly's writing obviously depicts a man who loves and respects women, children and Beings of difference, so much so that it seems he goes out if his way to teach his reader to be a better more loving person.
These Free Reads he puts out are amazing. One mind creating all of this!
I'm just a fan who recently, and with the help of science, overcame a terminal illness. While I was sick, I found audio Sci Fi stories and they filled my lonely days and nights with wonder and intelligence. After being placed in a life saving drug study I continued listening, but now I have the strengh to hunt down the modern, living writers... And what a gem I found in Kelly!
Lenard Nemoy voice acted a series of Sci Fi stories, he's my favorite reader ever...but Lisa is a close second. She's so perfect, I was there in the room with her. Not a wasted second or hesitation. Perfect speed, great inflection, deep resonance in her voice and an ability to stab the words deeply into my ears so I don't drift off and miss key points.
I guess you can tell...I'm a huge fan of the man, Jim Kelly.
