This is edited from Jessel’s Mutual Network “Thirty Minutes In Hollywood”, aired on January 16, 1938. It contains one of George’s phone calls to Mama, a terrific version of Bei Mir Bist du Schon and Harpo’s appearance, minus what I consider to be a boring harp performance. It also contains the program’s sign off. The total duration is (rounded off) 5 minutes, 49 seconds. I transferred the material from a pair of single sided 16” aluminum based lacquers cut laterally @ 33.33 rpm circa 1969. It was digitized circa 2000. The feed from KHJ was muffled. The two surfaces were meaningfully worn and rife with LOUD scratches. I applied considerable time redrawing the loud “zaps” & “thuds. Tools used were Sound Forge and Audition. This is NOT an aircheck. The noise is meaningfully reduced but still audible. This is because I insist upon preventing undesirable digital side effects, which are caused by over-aggressive use of various tools, or poorly designed tools. Unfortunately this problem pervades many "audio restorations".
