This is the seventh in a twelve-part series about Wenham photographer Benjamin Conant. It is also part of a larger series of Hamilton and Wenham, Massachusetts, oral histories of the towns, produced by William Heitz and Edmund Josephs from 1986 through 1995. It was originally taped on October 6, 1992 and was uploaded to the Internet Archive by Sarah Lauderdale, Head of Reference at Hamilton-Wenham Public Library, on Friday, September 11, 2015. Summary: Following a brief recap of Benjamin’s Conant’s life, a series of photographs of Wenham from the 1890s and early 1900s are presented and discussed. Presented in this interview include Conant’s photos of downtown Wenham as well as photos of dwellings just north of the downtown up to Patch Avenue. Also discussed is the recent discovery of additional Conant photographs as well as the importance of photographs in genealogical research.
