This is an edited excerpt from December 14, 1933. It contains the program opening, an appearance by James Cagney, and the program closing of the first Fleischmanns Yeast Hour broadcast from Hollywood. The announcer is Graham McNamee. I transferred this excerpt circa 1972 to 15 ips tape directly from four sides of two 12â uncoated aluminum disks cut at 78.26 rpm. I digitized and reprocessed it circa 5 - 10 years ago. This is NOT an aircheck. It was recorded from a tie-line provided by the N.Y. Telephone Co. between NBCs flagship station (WEAF) in New York and a recording studio located in Manhattan. The noise is meaningfully reduced but still audible. This is because I insist upon preventing undesirable digital side effects, which are caused by over-aggressive use of various tools, or poorly designed tools. Unfortunately this problem pervades many "audio restorations".
