The album is a sonic response to modernity and the impact the industrialised west is having on the "developing" world. The album was inspired by a visit my partner and I made to South east Asia last year and while in Vietnam/ Cambodia we were very touched by one wee girl who had suffered badly from a landmine blast. She had missing fingers, no nose and was very badly burned and scarred. She is the "Girl without a face". She was about 12. We felt a terrible guilt - gave her a few dollars and she bowed - It was a very humbling experience. We felt a terrible anger and shame for being even a small part of the western machineâ and what it has done to her country. So the album is for her. All the instruments are played by 2Track. Sample files are available on the site as are the full album recordings from all of these sonic incarnations. Previous "Head Noise" and "Joshue O Connor" releases have been critically very well received by Hot Press, Dublin Event guide and online music sites such as themilkfactory.co.uk
The album features a poem (Poem in protest) from the critically acclaimed LA based poet Olga Angelina Garcia. Olga Angelina Garcia is a Chicana poet who was born and raised in East Los Angeles, California. Ms. Garcia is a self-professed "battered bilingual" who code-switches, disrespects the English language, and uses poetry to portray a politicized identity. Her work is published by Calaca Press (http://www.calacapress.com). In the summer of 1999 she edited and published Sol y Sombra, a collection of bilingual poems by inner-city Latino youth. Calaca Press will publish her first collection of short stories, Con el nopal en la frente and Other Urban Tales from the Barrio.
