grade level are scheduled to participate in a summer reading program pilot study. today, iowa governor terry branstad announced the state has one point nine million dollats to cover the cost of the study. beginnnng in 2017, iowa s sool districts will be required to provide summer reading programs to students who are still struggling to read at the end of third grade. the pilot study will happen this summer, and will inform next t mmer's ading program. "this is a pilot. a study program, that with a cohort, a group of school districts across the state, that will be able to kind of test run high quality reading programs that school districts will then be able to implement in the summer of 2017." branstad said private gifts covered one point three million dollars needed to implement the study. the rest of the money came from the iowa department of education and the iowa board of regents. participating school districts in eastern iowa include cedar rapids, marion, central community,
