give us some new information today on a shooting that happened almost two weeks ago. that's when an officer shot a man during an overnight stop. . since then, police have released very little information a sp release a statement today on what happened during that traffic stop that turned violent. about 1:15 a-m on november 1st, officer lucas jones stopped jerime mitchell for a traffic violation near coe college in cedar rapids. police say the 2 men got into some sort of an altercation, and that's when jones fired his gun, seriously wounding mitchell. mitchell is still in the hospital. police say iowa law doesn't allow them to release dash cam video of the incident. but the iowa public information board disagrees. while the mitchell's family waits for the video, they

help. the group is called showing up for racial justice. and they will be protesting at today's city council meeting. the newly formed is mostly white. their goal is to use what they call is their white privilege to defend people of color. they want to see the dash cam footage released, and they don't want to see the d-c-i investigating the incident "my understanding is the iowa dci and the linn county prosecutor have investigated the officer who participated in the shooting before and cleared him. they work closely with the local police departments. and we think a truly neutral investigation is l the organization say the family reached out to them for help. a state lawmaker from urbandale is working on a bill to make an assault on a police officer a hate crime. republican senator brad zaun plans to introduce legislation after the ambush earlier this month that killed these two officers.

in oelwein now say an over-heated chicken roaster started the fire that destroyed their building. the family is now picking through the wreckage of the more than 50 year old restaurant. the fire happened late saturday afternoon. when firefighters arrived, they found heavy flames in the kitchen, which quickly spread to the ceiling. the building is a total loss, but no one was hurt. kcrg-tv9's jordee kalk trying to find bits of their history amid the damage. jordee: now the family of luigi is planning to come out to this site today to rummage through and see anything salvageable. really family just tells me they are looking for things that could be memories of this restaurant. 44:10, "some of the items we might want to save are under layers of debris." on monday, stasi family from across the country gathered to survey the damage. family say the restaurant was their father, luigi's, passion. even at 84 years old, luigi would still work 70 hours a week or more in his restaurant. family say he made the eatery an icon for this
