morning. thank you for joining us. >> topping our news developing news richmond high school is sustained a million dollars damage after an overnight fire that investigators say is very suspicious. officers are helping in the investigation terry? >> yeah the headline news for the students out there the school is in for today. there will be school but no lunch after the fire that burned out. we are hearing from richmond police that there was an event last night in the high school that involved the kitchen. that's all they are telling us that may have been involved. it doesn't explain what the firefighters found inside of the building. take a look at the scene out there. the call came in to the fire department 1:30. 30 minutes later they had the fire out. it was contained to the fire damage to the kitchen. smoke leaked out in the

adjacent dining area. what they found on the floor on the dining area turned out to be a kind of powder. >> there was dry chemical powder in the dining area and we saw a discharged fire extinguisher outside of the cafeteria area. that raised a flag for us. we called pd and investigators to come out and take a look. >> what the fire investigators determined at this point, it appears that the fire extinguisher was not aimed at the fire. the fire was in the kitchen and the in the dining room and did more vandalism and ran out of the door or was there something in the event that started a fire and someone tried to put it out and didn't do a good job. who ever is for the powder on the floor of the dining area didn't stick around to talk to

the investigators and arson investigatorsor taking - investigators are taking a look at. estmitt one-two million damage comes from a maintenance supervisor giving that estimate to the fire department. one-two million even though it was confined to the kitchen and dining room. again kids have classes. >> it is 6:03. oakland family can't believe that the police shot their labrador retriever. they found by a note posted on the front door. the dog was shot and killed by a police officer when responded to the home when a burglar alarm went off. the dog advanced on the officer in a threatening manner. they can't believe that shooting her was the only

planters have replaced trash and liquor bottles and community organizers are teaching people to grow their own food. >> why don't we do something to take over the lot and be responsible for the garbage and plant healing gardens for the people. >> kenny is the project manager here. show is part urban farmer and part teacher and part administrator and full-time problem solver. >> we have all of this sun. we can grow watermelons and tomatoes cucumbers and pumpkins peppers and all kinds of peppers lots of herbs and grow pretty much anything. north richmond is unincorporated area that is one of the poorest community in the county. growing a lot of crops is free though there is a one-time 10 charge for a key to the gate
