bridge. roadwork to antioch. that's coming up. >> 4:30 on thursday morning. kristen says she will brook nothing but happiness out there. keep it in mind as we head to the news day. >> with the weather, yeah! thank you for joining us. developing news. oakland police have a neighborhood blocked off after officers shot two suspects late last night. one of them died. abc7's terry mcsweeney is live at the scene with the latest. terry? >> reporter: yeah, i'm out here on ward lane coolen. police are on the scene at the end of ward lane. we're kept back. this is still a crime scene. two people shot. one is dead. the third arrested. take a look at pictures from the scene. it began 10:30. exactly what happened here, oakland police are not saying. there are reports that the drug enforcement agency, federal agency was involved in this. a second suspect was shot. a third taken in to custody. we know the swat team was out here for a while

following the shoot-out. although it happened six hours ago oakland police releasing few details on the story. the word of d.e.a. involvement on this has one thinking, of course, about a drug raid going on out here. oakland p.d. not confirming that. what we have out here is according to the oakland p.d., two people shot by oakland police. one of them is dead. a third person taken in to custody out here near 35th avenue and coolidge. live in oakland terry mcsweeney, abc7 news. >> all right, terry. thank you very much. 4:32 now. little-by-little, the giants fan brutally beaten in the season opener with the dodgers is showing signs of some improvement. neurosurgeons at san francisco general are now monitoring his recovery. his father and sister spoke publicly about what bryan stow is going through. abc7's lisa amin gulezian has the latest. >> it hurts to see him lying there and not responsive to

a lot of things. >> reporter: bryan stow's recovery remains slow, but the 42-year-old's family is hopeful, especially since stow opened his eyes and hasn't had a single seizure since arriving at san francisco general hospital monday. >> over the next several weeks we'll begin to taper the medications back so we can better understand what is the true level of his brain function. >> the number of seizure medications has already dropped from five to four. but stow remains in a coma. >> just wondering if he can hear us in there. and if he is fighting his way back. >> looks to left field. it's a base hit. >> reporter: los angeles police prepare to prevent a repeat of what happened in the dodger stadium parking lot march 31. the night bryan stow was attacked by these two men dressed in dodger gear. stow wore a giants jersey. this is the first time the giants have been back to dodger stadium since the

beating during the home opener. >> just an isolated incident. i'm not worried. >> still, a heavy police presence. ten players noticed a -- even the players noticed a change in security since march 31. >> a lot more police officers out there. you know, definitely being surveilled a lot better than what it was before. >> reporter: they're handing out fliers of the suspect sketches. a special office inside the stadium has also been set up where fans can come and report anything they may know about the attack. right now los angeles police officers are following up on roughly 500 leads. there is a $200,000 reward offered. in san jose, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. this morning, san jose police are asking for help in their effort to track down a bank robber that struck at least three times. here are photos of the suspect taken in the robberies. he stands 5'6" to 5'8", weighing 190 to 200 pounds.

he is balding with black facial hair and has dark spots on both sides of his cheeks. the suspect is accused of at least three bank robberies in san jose and milpitas since january. even hitting one location twice. anyone with information about this man is urged to contact san jose police. the contra costa county health department is waiting for test results from the richmond health center. that's where an employee has died from legionair's disease. it's triggered when people breathe in infected steam or water vapor and it can be fatal between 5-30% of the time. contra costa county averages nearly ten cases per year. legionaire's disease is not contagious but similar bacteria made a richmond health worker sick in 2008. the center remains open pending the test results. u.s. transportation secretary ray lahood and peninsula congresswoman jackie spear will visit the

site where a gas pipeline exploded killing eight people and destroying dozens of homes last fall. pg&e is warning regulators that cutting pressure any further from the utility natural gas pipeline as a safety precaution could interrupt service to customers. the california public utilities commission directed pg&e to reduce pressure by 20% in ten of the gas transmission lines following the disaster. san francisco voters will decide whether the city should make circumcisions illegal. backers of the ban provided enough legitimate signatures to put the measure on november ballot. some call the practice painful and cool but most opponents say it's fundamental to religious practices. 4:36. new reports this morning that maria shriver hired a prominent los angeles divorce lawyer. "people" magazine says shriver contacted the attorney after former governor schwarzenegger revealed he fathered a boy with a family employee 13 years ago.

abc7's dan ashley has the latest. >> reporter: in the pictures obtained by tmz mildred patricia baena could not look happier at her baby shower in the late '90s. but the woman known as "patty" was hiding a deep, dark secret. the baby she was carrying was arnold schwarzenegger's. the boy was born in september of 1997. shriver gave birth to their son christopher five days later. >> arnold was arnold before he was governor. a powerful, seductive, bigger than live personality who loves women. >> reporter: baena worked at the mansion as housekeeper and assistant for 20 years. last week shocking announcement that arnold schwarzenegger and maria shriver married 25 years with four children were separating. >> i know for a fact she heard rumors about the child out of wedlock before. they tried different things to patch it up.

the only time they have been allowed to see their sons since they were arrested in july of 2009. this morning congresswoman gabrielle giffords is recovering after a successful surgery to repair her skull. this marks the latest step in the arizona democrat recovery since surviving assassination attempt in january. surgeons removed part of her skull to relieve pressure on her brain after the shooting. yesterday they replaced that brone in a cranial plasty where a plastic implant is attached to her skull with titanium screws. this morning, astronauts successfully hoisted a cosmic ray detector from "endeavor" for installation on the space station. the $2 billion alpha magnetic spectrometer will study the invisible universe for as long as the life of the space station. in mission control engineers are analyzing several areas of damage on "endeavor's" belly.

welcome back. here is a look at the temperatures around the country. 73 in seattle. 68. cool spot and salt lake city and denver. contrast that with dallas at 83. st. louis at 75. that is the area for severe weather. outlined in yellow through tornado alley. no delays there. there could be this afternoon. right now if you are heading to new york or philadelphia you will want to check out the flight tracker. they both have flight arrival delays.

abc7news.com. here is eric. >> mike thank you very much. 4:47. the santa cruz sbca says someone stole a kitten from the shelter in live oak. this is mousy. it's believed a man and woman visiting the shelter took the 8-week-old kitten and made off with the spca director iphone. mousy was not ready for adoption because she still needs vet's evaluation. the sheriff's department is now investigating the case. just hours from now, president obama is expected to give what is being called a major speech about the future of the middle east and north africa. it follows a series of major uprising in egypt, libya, tunisia, syria and other countries that are being called the arab spring. senior white house official says the president will focus on outlining how the u.s. will offer new financial support to any nation in that region. with democratic aspirations. the president is also expected to defend newly-imposed economic sanctions levelled against syria's leaders which led to

violent crackdown on the pro-democracy protesters. mr. obama is expected to announce new aid packages for egypt and tunisia, the two nations seen as models for democratic uprising. al-qaeda has released osama bin laden's last audiotape. it was in support of the arab spring uprisings that swept through the middle east. >> translator: my muslim people, we watch closely what is going on in the world today. we rejoice with your rejoicing and your pride. >> al-qaeda says the tape was made a week before bin laden was killed in pakistan by u.s. navy seals. back here, more and more people are becoming victimized by this crime. thieves stealing millions of dollars each year swiping information from bank cards. here is "7 on your side" michael finney with ways to protect yourself. >> reporter: the key to your account; namely the information on the magnetic stripe can be copied when you use your bank card at gas stations stores or increasingly even at your own bank's atm.

deputy police inspector gregory ansonsen says thieves install a device called skimmer over the real card reader. >> when you pass the a.t.m. card in and draw it, the chip in there records the information off the magnetic stripe. >> reporter: to record the pin number, they install a tiny camera hidden in the panel above the key pad. >> the thieves can download your account information on the magnetic stripe of a blank card learn your pin number from the camera recording and start draining your account of cash. >> that is what happens to rose flores when she used the atm at her bank last year before going on vacation. she got back and discovered thieves were raiding her bank account. >> i felt very violated and very scared. they took out almost $6,000. >> rose discovered the theft by checking her statements online. chase eventually reimbursed all the money she lost but she is careful using atms

exsupervisors jim gonzalez and michael yackey who plan to gather enough signatures to pressure lee to run for office. >> the people of san francisco want him to run. and tell him that we don't mind if you change your mind. that gives him permission if he wants to change his mind and run for mayor. >> i'm sure i am not going to run. this has not been my agenda and never has been. >> in fact, mayor lee plans to return to his old job as the city administrator. that job pays more than being mayor. that's one incentive to go back to that job. >> reporters kept pressing him on it and he said i'm glad people aren't saying, "throw him out now!" i am a reporter who asked him in the past, are you going to run? what can change your mind? the peninsula coast this afternoon. if you want sunshine at the beaches, maybe santa cruz good place to go. or up on the north bay. let's talk about the temperatures as you step out. they are cooler from the mid-to-upper 40s in the north bay valleys. to livermore fremont, redwood city southward. mid-to-upper 40s. half moon bay, san francisco, oakland concord fairfield. low to mid-70s. antioch the warm spot at 57 degrees. around the monterey bay and inland, low to mid-50s from monterey and salinas. cooler, gilroy at 42. mid-to-upper 40s for santa cruz and watsonville. so our highlights sunny and warmer this afternoon. this weekend will be breezy to windy. the cold front is coming through. but most of the rain will stay away from our neighborhood. it won't be as warm with the breeze coming in saturday sunday, and in to monday. for today's temperatures, jump over to east bay valley. mid-to-upper 70s. this is where we should be for middle may. mid-to-upper 60s through most of the peninsula. east bay shore.
