california are saying that she said she was pregnant. then she even threw herself a baby shower. she then showed up with 4-month-old ramy gallego and said the baby was hers and she was two months old. they didn't believe her and called the police. they believe ericka gallego snuck in her son's home sometime saturday night and grabbed his daughter, 4-month-old ramy while the parents were asleep. >> she made entry in the house. apparently she has some familiarity with the home. it was not a difficult task for her. took the baby. >> i will be happy if they lock her away. she needs to pay for what she's done. i don't have hatred in my heart this morning. >> no word on the motive. investigators say ramy's parents didn't even suggest the grandmother was a suspect. no one saw it coming. although now the parents are saying the grand mother was a little mentally off but

they never thought she was capable of kidnapping police. they say after she grabbed the baby, she hopped in a taxi cab and took the cab all the way back to southern california. that's where baby ramy was found safe. she is fine. she has been checked out and her health is okay. but her grandmother is in jail facing charge of kidnapping. prosecutors say they will likely add more charges and she will have to face the allegation and appear in martinez. live in martinez, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thanks a lot. bart officials this week will tack what is sure to be a controversial plan. the transit agency may greatly expand the taser program hoping ironically that it would reduce the mishap that the officers have had involving tasers. abc7's terry mcsweeney is live with more. terry? >> reporter: the thinking is if every bart police officer has a taser on him or her at all times they will become very familiar with that weapon. right now, there are only 60

tasers in the bart p.d. not enough for taser to goes to every officer. they want to buy 130 more. take a look at the incident that prompted this. go to january 1, 2009. the fatal shooting of a passenger by bart cop johannes mehserle who said he was shooting the taser. he doesn't usually have one but he borrowed it a few hours before the incident. they recommend giving each officer a taser to increase familiarity with the non-lethal weapon. they said not buying the tasers would leave bart police with fewer non-lethal options dealing with the violent suspects. he was convicted of involuntary manslaughter. all tasers were pulled from officers when one officer used taser to fire at 13-year-old who was fleeing police on a bicycle. that's against the police policy. the boy was not hit. now the officers have been

retrained. now all officers may be rearmed with tasers at cost of $140,000. they are thinking of buying 130 more tasers. live in oakland, terry mcsweeney, abc7 news. >> thank you. 5:05 now. the jury in the chauncesy bailey murder trial begins the first full day of deliberation today. in closing arguments, prosecutors says testimony proves that the owner of the bakery muslim -- your black muslim bakery killed bailey. they face life in prison if convicte convicted. the building inspectors will take a bat to save their jobs to the board of supervisors. the county says 14 inspectors have to be laid off at the end of the month because the money is not there to keep them on. the inspectors disagree.

they are angry that they have money to create building space for the county office. they say the demand for building inspections is down due to housing crisis. showdown is expected in san francisco city hall today between community activists and at&t. board of supervisors is set to vote on a major plan by at&t to upgrade equip in the the city, that includes installing 726 of the big utility boxes. the telecommunication giants says it will provide faster internet and telephone service to make it widely available. coalition of environmental groups says the boxes would clutter sideways and invite graffiti. they want the technology installed on private property or underground. >> do or die time for the sharks when they face the canucks in vancouver tonight in game five of the stanley cup western conference finals. one bright spot for the sharks is they will have captain joe thornton back on the ice. he left game four sunday after taking huge hits on his shoulder.

"san francisco examiner" says mayor lee says several unions representing the city workers are on board with his proposal he will deliver to the board of supervisors. he says there is still one major hold-out but he won't say who. mayor lee is also meeting with the public defender who has his own plan for pension reform. that is currently in the signature gathering stage. >> another sign that the bay area economy is improving. auto dealership is recruiting 3 dozen positions. del grande dealer group of silicon valley has eight dealerships offering 39 job openings at the job fair. that is not an isolated blip on the radar. state radar officials say san jose has seen the best job growth rate of the ten largest cities. >> the economy is getting better. we've been busier and busier. the dealer group is selling well over 1,000 cars a month. >> they're looking for people in a wide variety of fields, sales consultants, service advisors, shuttle

story to claim the baby as her own. amy hollyfield is live at the sheriff department in martinez. >> she even gave herself a baby shower. ericka gallego said she was pregnant, threw a baby shower and showed up with the baby to claim that the baby was her. ramy gallego lives in east contra costa county and had been taken from her home saturday night while her parents slept. investigators launched a search for the baby but never thought to focus on the grandmother. the parents never thought that the grand mother was capable of kidnapping. but acquaintances in southern california were suspicious when they saw her with the baby so they called police. baby ramy was found safe. >> i hope she gets help and don't steal my baby. i don't care if you're my

wife, my friend, or my wife. this is my child. you know what? you are going to get prosecuted the way someone else would now. >> it's indescribable. the happiest moment of my life. yesterday was the worst moment of my life. and today -- >> reporter: the grandma is rudy gallego's mother. rudy and his wife kristen are both calling for prosecutors to bring charges against ericka gallego. she will be transferred to martinez to face the allegation of kidnapping her granddaughter. no word on the possible motive behind the kidnapping. >> all right, thank you. 5:32. >> another tornado outbreak is possible if the plain states today. president obama will tour missouri on sunday and meet with people affected by the tornados in joplin, missouri. that is where more than 100 people were killed and rescuers were racing to find

survivors. abc's john hendren reports. >> reporter: now comes the long search for survivors. >> it's horrible. i'm 34 years old. i have been this guy's friend since i was 15. >> the same all over joplin, missouri, which reeked the worst of the twist they're ravaged most of the town. >> that is the first time i've been in a tornado. looking at the blow-off and the roof blow off, that was enough for me. >> for some, the stories were miraculous. this man sent a text message to friend that saved his life. >> my best friend. i got a message from him. >> maxine harris was rescued from st. john's hospital after the cyclone ripped off the roof like a soup can. >> nice people. they took me in a wheelchair and just took me down all seven flights. >> the funnel wrapped in rain that ravaged most of

joplin was just one of 70 weekend twisters. >> this year has been the perfect year for tornadoes. >> anything that they need we are going to be there. >> at the home depot, rescue workers found eight people, seven alive. gary thinks his brother is still inside. his truck is in the parking lot. >> we'll keep looking or be here until we find him. >> then there are the lost, swept up in winds over 190 miles an hour. well over 100 in joplin alone and counting. >> john hendren, abc news. 7:30 this morning here, parents in redwood city will join other parents around the state to keep political pressure on state lawmakers to fund education. wake up california school rallies will be held in 20 cities. school districts are told they may get the same level of funding next year than they got this year. that's what they were told in january when cuts appeared to be worse but organizers say they will

keep pressuring sacramento until a budget is signed. bart plans to ask voters in contra costa, alameda and san francisco counties to approve a parcel tax to raise up to $1 billion to replace the ageing train cars. the bart board says the tax measure could be on the ballot as early as november of next year. the media partner, the "contra costa times" reports that bart estimates it would cost $3 billion to buy up to 1,000 new train cars. officials say some of the 669 cars in operation are up to 40 years old. without replacements they will be more difficult to maintain. thousands of marin county water users may have to pay a whopping rate increase next year. north marin water districts will meet to consider a 30% rate increase over three years so 11% each year. residential users will see the bill rise $5 in june and then next year and next year. the rates already went up the last two years.

water officials say they have to make up for revenue they lost since the customers have been using less water to save money and the environment. the mother of the man arrested in the beating of giants' fan bryan stow says police have the wrong man. los angeles police arrested 31-year-old giovanni ramirez at his hollywood apartment sunday morning. police say he resembles a sketch of one of two men who attack stow in the dodger stadium parking lot on march 31. ramirez's mother says her son is on probation and he doesn't leave home very often. >> i'm sorry for the family, but it's not the person are looking for. >> police are searching for a second attacker and the whom who drove the men from the stadium. stow remains in critical condition at san francisco general hospital. 5:36. the world did not end on saturday as predicted by oakland religious leader. now harold camping called it a miscalculation and took no responsibility for people who gave away everything in

"endeavor" docked with a space station high above earth. abc7's dan ashley spoke by satellite last night with two of the crew members.

coast, mid-to-upper 50s for you. saucelito, san rafael and vallejo. out to the beaches, mid-to-upper 50s with sunshine. 10 degrees warmer in santa cruz and 70. warmer than that, low to mid-70s inland. tonight with cloud cover, warmer. upper 40s in the valleys and most of us in low to mid-50s. watching the high pressure now. watch how it gets squeezed and shoved out of way by the cold front. it holds on by the fingertips. mostly sunny. high clouds and sunny. rain with the cold front tomorrow. jumping ahead to 5:00 tomorrow morning. the rest of us should get rain by moon. a quarter of inch is possible in north bay. scattered showers in the evening hours there. we get a few hundredths in the south bay. even when it's dry thursday through monday. temperatures will still be below average. have a great day.
