just before that screaming could be heard in the background there are frantic call from the apartment he shared with a roommate and that man's girlfriend. police say when officers arrived they were immediately confronted by banta, at the top of a staircase with a knife he was scribed as agitated and refused all commands given to him by officers. officers ordered him to drop the knife, several times, mr. banta charged down the stairs towards officers with the knife in his hand. the officers fired their guns at mr. banta in self-defense. >> the purpose is to achieve closure for the family. it's difficult to understand what is going on. what could have happened. this is a young man who never had history of any ininvolvement with legal activities. >> now, banta moved here from yuba city, his friends and co-workers told abc 7 news he
