yesterday morning at this time especially around the bay and that is a reason why we are going to deal with possibly some flight arrival delays at sfo. there is hardly any drizzle compared to yesterday. >> now, what will happen today as we look toward the ferry building, a beautiful picture from the camera. below average temperatures this afternoon. whether inland east bay at 79 to 83, the coast in san francisco at 61 to 67 or the spread around the bay, 70 to 78, all the temperatures should be warmer. energy the break from the heat. we have traffic building over the pass and you can see a patch of red as you make the drive from tracy and we have this slowing along the nimitz in the northbound direction headed into oakland because of a project that is in the clearing stays between high and embarcadero. at highway four we have more traffic building especially through antioch and it looks like the crash is cleared to the shoulder because the slowing we

worked in the bay area. ceremonies are at 6:45 and fire attention, and the bell rings signifying the last alarm, when the south tower of the world trade center collapsed. at 7:00, the station flags are lowered to half staff followed by a minute of silence at 7:02 the names of the 243 new york firefighters killed on 9/11 are read out loud at all 43 san francisco fire stations. the flags remain at half staff throughout the day. rebound is conditionally endorsing a russian plan for syria to give up their chemical weapons as the talk goes to the united nations. last night the president obama tried to sell a skeptical nation on the plan to attack syria if

it cops to that and says there is proof that a regime of bashar al-assad unleashed chemical weapons last month killing more than 1,400 men and women and children and a limited strike would send a message that no other country can deliver. >> strike can make assad or any other think twice before using chemical weapons. were support. >> somehow, magically, an american freedom bought will only kill the bad guy? this is just unreal answer. >> for now it appears the united states has bought some time while russia and our allies try

to get syria to hand over the stockpile of chemical weapons. >> developing news on the mt. diablo fire with firefighters making impressive games yesterday and hope to keep the momentum going today. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield joins from dublin. there is confidence that fire fighters have the upper happened and they are careful not to be over confident, and they say there are still smoldering spots they want to watch but when you are out there. >> you see is damage and destruction. this fire burned more than 3,000 acres residents say there were scary moments. >> the flames were so big and taller than trees and it looked like the fire lines were on fire. >> i don't know how they did that. they stopped doing this.

>> this night was the most terrifying, the scene on monday when the fire was raging toward morgan territory road and a row of homes. firefighters saved the home and nothing was damaged. now, firefighters and residents are saying they feel like the worst has passed and they have lifted the evacuation order and people were allowed to return home. firefighters will have a containment line established around the entire area by saturday. the rim fire burning on the western side of yosemite national park has grown do 255,000 acres. a seem 70 scientists now is in the area to assess the damage to the natural habitat and figure out a recovery plan. it could cost tens of millions to restore that area. today the state senate is expected to take up a resolution to rename the western span of the bay bridge after former san francisco mayor willie brown. the state assembly unanimously

passed the resolution. brown was assembly speaker for 15 years. governor brown says he were opposed the name change and says the bridge should remain the bay bridge like it has always been but the governor may not have were say in the matter. he cannot veto a legislate i resolution. >> president obama has nominated congresswoman barbara lee of oakland as representative to the u.n. general aassembly. her term in the house ends next year and will not be affected. she is an antiwar advocate and announced her opposition to the plan for military action in syria. the nomination needs senate approval. >> you can feel the steam kicking up today. >> absolutely. like yesterday. we will have small craft advisory on the bay shore and in the delta so watch out for that will set as far as our day planner, we have spotty drizzle

through 7:00 this morning. temperatures are in the upper 50's to low 60's. it will be partly sunny and we will gradually decrease the low clouds as the high clouds increase during the lunch hour. 62 at coast and 72 inland. headed to 4:00, temperatures hang out in the mid-80's inland, mid-to-upper 70's around the bay and 60's at the coast and we will fall back into the 60's mainly by 7:00. the three day forecast shows the three remain warmest days coming at us: today, below average. tomorrow, we will be closer to average, and the warmth climaxes on friday and above average for saturday and the rest of the weekend, we have the seven-day forecast coming up. leyla gulen? >> we reported an accident open highway 4 making it in the westbound direction but it sounds like it was clear, but, actually, it is not. here is the waze app and i can show you a wazer is saying the accident is blocking one lane and you can see it is causing backup because we have reports

policed two prison guards on leave while they investigate the suicide of cleveland kidnapper and rapist ariel castro would hanged himself with a bed sheet in the cell. he was serving a life sentence for kidnapping three women and holding them captive in his home for a decade. he was in protective custody a status requires checking every 30 minutes. the two guards on duty are on paid leave until the investigation is completed. >> former congressman weiner lost the bid to become the mayor of new york city. he received only 5 percent of the vote when the ballots were counted last night. he did not take the loss well. he flipped off reporters who were trying to get a comment from him. the woman behind his latest sexting scandal showed up at the campaign event and security removed her. he was a congressman until a sexting scandal forced him to resign. >> former new york governor spitzer also host in his attempt to return to politics.

cooling next week. as far as the high pressure that brought us the warm weather it is moving up to the north and away from us and we are getting the sea breeze from this area of low pressure and high clouds from this area of low treasure and both combining to drop the temperatures down into the mid-to-upper 70's in the santa clara valley to 81 in los gatos the warm spot and hose to 78 along with cupertino. millbrae is 71 and mid-to-upper 70's for the rest of the peninsula and low-to-mid 60's along the coast and south san francisco we are downtown around 67 degrees and up in the north bay we will have 73 in petaluma if a cooler spot and 76 in novato and napa and sausalito is at 68. over to the east bay shore, berkeley is 70, and oakland is 71 and fremont is 76 and 77 in in the castro valley. now, the games, 12:45 although there will be a lot of cloud cover the u.v. index is lie and

comfortable today with temperatures in the mid-60's. it will be cooler tonight mostly in the mid-50's to near 60. the clouds will be more widespread. the seven-day outlook shows today, cool of the day in the forecast, tomorrow, two to four degrees warmer and up to six degrees warmer on friday and holding above average open saturday and you can see the temperatures are cooling back sunday, monday, and tuesday and by the end of the weekend, mid-60's at the coast and mid-80's inland. have a good one. >> the accident on westbound highway four is really causing the pain out here and if you are traveling loan the westbound direction you will be stuck in pretty heavy traffic. it is going to take you 48 minutes to head between antioch to concord because of the crash possibly two crashes, one is a crash that developed as a way to avoid this, westbound highway 4 is where the cars resting in one lane and you can see the backup it is causing, spectator slowing

warmest air is in the east bay valley and only low-to-mid 80's. leyla gulen? >> the only commute westbound highway four is toast. it is packed. and it will take you at least 50 minutes to head out of antioch to concord so bumper-to-bumper traffic is expected. there is a bart delay we hear. out of pittsburg to sfo it is 15 minutes because of a track problem. muni and ace train, all running on time. >> resolution kepts near the mt. diablo fire are waking up at home after evacuation orders were lifted hoping the firefighters will finish the job of containing the threatening place. amy hollyfield is at command

post. amy? >> they are starting their day at breakfast. the crews are getting their own file before they head up there to start working on getting the fire contained. it looks a lot better on the scene but they realize there is still smoldering that could glare up. now rather than seeing roaring flames you can see the damage left behind that burned 3,000 acres. firefighters and residents believe the worst has passed and there is no active fire burning right now and that evacuation order has been lifted. it looks devastating on the hillside no homes were damaged. they were all saved. residents feel grateful. >> they are the most dedicated, hard working personnel i have ever seen. they truly care. firefighters are here to serve is we appreciate the recognition

. residents are appreciative after living through this, a flareup that came close to home. crews found themselves in quite a firefight and some residents raced out of there not sure if they would see their homes. three firefighters have been hurt on the fight and minor injuries and ankle injury, heat exhaustion, all expected to be okay. again, no homes have been damaged. they have this thing at 60 percent contained and will be headed back out there shortly when the sun comes up it will be fully surrounded by saturday. >> east bay firefighters are now victims of crime after they were robbed while fighting the mt. diablo fire. walnut creek firefighters were called out to fight the blaze leaving the station empty and burglars broke interest lockers, desks, and gym bags and stole

two wedding rings, ipads, watch lets and cash. the thieves later tried to break into station three across town on the same evening but they were scared off by a sloping firefighter who woke up and ran them off. >> it is a slap in the face, who thinks to do that? >> the contra costa county fire protection district is now considering installing security cameras and extra looks at all the fire stations. >> the most active fire in california has destroyed 80 structures and threatening 500 more. the fire is burning 150 miles north of sacramento starting monday. at one point, the flames spread at 500 acres an hour. the people would shot the home video had minutes to evacuate. the fire has burned 6,800 acres and is 40 percent contained. the governor says the federal emergency grant will cover 75 percent of the fire-fighting

blast. today's blast comes on the first anniversary of the consulate attack in benghazi that left four americans dead including the united states ambassador stevens who was a piedmont native. the obama administration has been criticized about its role in the deaths including not doing enough to prevent the attack. year, the white house issued a statement saying it remains committed to bring those responsible for the killings to justice. >> secretary of state john kerry will brief the senate open syria in a closed session on capitol hill today. a bipartisan group is reworking the language of a potential resolution on the use of force after president obama made his case to the american people last note. we are in washington, dc, with more on that story. >> good morning, eric. it was a rare prime time address and the president of the united states speaking to the american people about the need for military action in syria as he explores a diplomatic solution.
