[ male announcer ] choose at&t and build your bundle. it's whatever works for you. ♪ >> abc7 news starts right now with breaking news. >> this is the seen of a tragic accident which killed a 12-year-old boy riding his bicycle to a middle school in contra costa county. >> kristen is on assignment. a mother of three hit the boy according to the highway patrol. we will get to abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield with more on what happened. amy? >> the boy was killed right here in front of his school. grief counselors are on the thai here now to help the kids at the
middle school. this happened at 7:45 a woman pulling out of the school driveway on to the highway hit the 12 year old boy who was riding his bicycle the he was wearing his helmet. investigators do not think speed or alcohol was a factor and they are calling this a tragic accident. the woman stopped and has not been arrested or given a citation. they have not released the name of the boy. they do not know if the woman knows the boy but there is a good chance she does, it is a very small community with only 1,200 people living here, a small, tight-knit community. there are two ones but if anyone else saw it, you are encouraged to call the california highway patrol. the ones are adults and they do not think any children saw this happen. the boy did die on the scene. he is from discovery bay. his name is not released. the c.h.p. is telling me this is a good reminder for all of us, look both ways -- twice -- just
in case. >> concern january military forces swept into the shopping mall to end a two day hostage stand off with terrorists. abc7 news reporter has the latest developments from nairobi >> today, explosions at the mall , thick smoke coming from the building and a fevered gun battle with security forces fighting dozens of terrorists holding civilians hostage. the battle raged all might and it appears to be researching the climax. >> there has been automatic gunfire you can probably hear behind me for about 15 minutes now and the terrorists and the security forces in a pitched battle. you can see the black smoke coming from the top of the building early today, a big motion is with the big thick smoke coming out. >> today is day throw of the
siege. on saturday, terrorists took over the mall throwing grenades and firing automatic weapons aiming to kill as many as possible. >> it went off at the same time he shot and my son missed the bullet, his head, by an inch, bouncing on the wall and hit the boy next to him. >> kenyan authorities secured all the floors of the building by afternoon rescuing most hostages. the terrorists were believed holed up in the have market along with an unknown number of hostages. kenya has killed three of the terrorists they say. the death toll now stands at 62 with many more wounded. among the injured, at least five americans, including one child, as the battle goes on, the death poll will surely rise. >> uc berkeley graduate is one of four americans injured in the attack in kenya and suffered
some facial injuries in this photo from twitter. her father said she had metal injuries to her chest, arm, and leg. she graduated from cal in 2005 and currently lives in kenya. at home, pg&e crews plan to spend the day in san bruno after capping a gas leak close to the site of the 2010 disaster with crews puncturing a 2" gasoline about 8:00 last note trying to work to elevate tracks in the area with train service being stopped and passengers rerouted. pg&e cad the leak at 1:00 o'clock this morning and caltrain service resumed this morning. the accident was four miles from where a gas line exploded four years ago killing eight and destroying 38 homes. >> there is a huge uproar over the rovelation that the san francisco 49ers sometime have to find 5,000 more parking spaces for the new stadium being
built. it set up arguments among a number of different groups. this is the progress on the stadium as of this morning and where are the parking spaces going to come from? matt keller joins us with that. >> the city estimates that the stadium needs 21,000 parking spaces and the 49ers have 16,000 right new so they need 5,000 more. what better place than right next door here at the santa clara youth soccer park. it is not just the packing -- parking issues but the influx people whether concerts or sporting events makes it crowded for those using the soccer fields. a city council discussed relocation as an option. opponents say all that is left is the wetlands around and south of the we bird and butterfly
habitat garden. the city says it is early in the process but no decision has been made if and when the fields will be located. >> this is a discussion only, with a lot of options. we have not picked one and we will not until we hear a last input from the public. >> another opening for relocation at the bmx racetrack and a school and park. a short-term solution is the city owned golf course which could accommodate 6,000 cars but potential development is in the works for the land but that could take years. supporters are encouraging people to call their city council members and, also, e-mail themes as well, as far as the city council, they have yet to put this issue on any future meeting agenda. >> thank you, matt, 49ers linebacker aldon smith is taking an indefinite leave of absence with officials announcing he

>> now a story that we first reported here on friday. investigators took this cell phone video from one of three suspected gang members now arrested for running an illegal dog-fighting ring. it shows two pitt bulls fighting as the owners and bystanders provoked them to fight more. this morning, police released the still images from the video and show four other people police say were involved in that
