>> live from the kgo broadcast center, this is abc7 news. >> not one more. >> a day of mourning and reflection as thousands of people gather to remember the victims of the deadly rampage near uc santa barbara. the father of one victim demanding the senseless violence finally come to an end. good evening. i'm dan ashley. it has been a day of mourning. thousands gathered to remember the six students who lost their lives. james hong and dave a individual wong and george chen and katherine cooper and veronica weiss. and they were at that vigil tonight and as you will see it was very emotional. >> organizers in tended this to be a time of mourning and reflection. richard martinez tried to rows the students -- rouse the
students into action. >> i want you to shout so loud they will hear you jie. he is the father of christopher martinez who was gunned down at the deli. the students followed his lead. capacity. >> everyone is there and the entire stadium was full. it was awesome. >> the parents of chen, hopping hopping -- hong and wong were at the funeral, but they didn't speak to the crowd. students were supposed to be getting ready for finals, but the violence of this weekend and the loss of six of their schoolmates at the hands of 22-year-old elia roger has made this a difficult end for students who are graduating. >> i am not going to remember this, but because of our love and our community. >> we are going to try our best to resume business as usual.
>> candles continue to burn for their fellow students. classes resume tomorrow, and some students we talk to say that might actually help the healing process. abc7 news. >> tomorrow the uc berkeley community will come together to honor the victims of this mass killing. the students and the faculty and the staff will gather at 8:00 tomorrow night for a vigil and a show of solidarity. the vigils have been held on campuses throughout the uc system. we will cover the one tomorrow at uc berkeley as well. classes resume for the first time since the attacks at three bay area high schools attended by the first three victims of the deadly rampage. hong and chen grew up together in san jose. they attended ucsb with their friend, david wong who graduated from fremont christian school where he is thought of fondly as a young man of character and of intelligence. >> it hits you, and that's when you well up with tears or
other kinds of emotions. >> at fremont christian school he is remembered as an outstanding student who loved playing pick up basketball at lunch. the school says it will dedicated outdoor basketball court in his honor. >> at san jose's lynn brooke high a moment of silence for james hong. he graduated two years ago with honors. >> he is the kindest kid. so generous and always willing to help people out. >> he is an alum nighs from leland high school. they say he was a gentle soul who liked working with children. >> they said he is the kindest, sweetest young man with a brilliant smile. >> a training exercise at san jose state has been canceled out of respect for the six students killed. the drill would have included a gunman taking over the school. the exercise could be
upsetting and it was best to postpone understandably. well we have continuing coverage of the rampage on air and on-line. our reporting continues on twitter at abc7 news bay area. new video of brian stowe who showed up in court for jury selection. he watched from a wheelchair as perspective jurors received instructions. stowe a former santa cruz paramedic suffered brain damage during a beating outside dodger stadium in 2011 as you know. his attorney blames the attack on a lack of security. the suit seeks millions in damages. developing news now out of mariposa county. no sleep for fire crews on the front lines of a fast-moving wildfire. hundreds of firefighters joined the battle today in the foothills not far from yosemite. there are now more than 700 firefighters on the scene and four have been injured. the fire charred three structures including two
homes. it is burning in rough terrain and pushing the crew tots limit. >> everybody i brought worked a full day yesterday. we haven't been to bed since yesterday morning about 5:30 or 6:00 and we go until 7:00 tomorrow morning. >> they are pushing themselves. the fire began as a structure fire yesterday afternoon and scorched more than two square miles so far. police in mountain view want your help tracking down a burglar. surveillance photos from friday night shows the burglar inside a business on the 200 block of castro street. he broke in and stole several hundred dollars. they estimate his age at 60 to 70 years old. tonight we are waiting for a huge give away announcement promised if a mysterious ben gnaw factor who is happening out cash in san francisco reached 100,000 followers. right now he is at 112,000. the hunt for the hidden cash continued today. people searched for the envelopes planted on lombard
street and fisherman's wharf and the palace of fine arts. the anonymous donor will look for this scene in the south bay. is there an envelope in cash -- with cash in it? the first coin from the greatest buried treasure ever found in the u.s. was augustsed off. it fetched $15,000, more than 10,000 than expected. the money will go to preserve the san francisco mint building where it was made an unnamed couple found 1400 coins on their property and it is valued at $10 million and the rest of the coins are being auctioned off line and the money will belong to the couple. world cup soccer fever is catching on in the bay area. the u.s. men's national team played an exhibition match at the stick this evening before heading off to brazil. cornell bernard was at the games as the fans went wild.

bean, the burrow. tonight there is new video of the pair strolling together at the animal place sanctuary. a volunteer drove jelly bean 14 hours to bring them back together. they lived in poor conditions side by side in southern california. their new caretaker said mr. g went through an incredible transformation before her eyes. >> she was lethargic and sad and no appetite. it came to our attention that the deep bond was formed. you can see she is excited. i have a goat who is acting like a goat. >> the video of mr. g reuniting has two million hits on youtube in just a week.
