broadcast center, this is abc7 news. >> undoubtedly they are heros and they tackled them and they got his weapon. >> that's the sacramento mother of the heros of this morning's attack on a train in europe. tonight we are learning more about the three men who prevented a masacre. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm ama daetz. three americans with ties to northern california helped stop a potential terror attack in france. >> melanie woodrow has more on this amazing story. >> tonight they are being called heros in the right place at the right time potentially saving hundreds of lives. >> in this dramatic exclow sigh sigh -- exclusive video you can see the gunman bound and those injured while taking him down. the potential terror attack happened on a train happening from amsterdam to paris.

and two u.s. servicemen are both with sacramento ties and the gunman loading a weapon on the train. the gunman then reportedly came out shirtless with a rifle slung over his shoulder. that's when the men sprang into action wrestling the gunman to the ground. their mothers relieved. >> and if they hadn't stepped up there could have been uh rot of death. >> we were both very proud of them. >> the sac state seen yes -- senior was the third man who helped thwart the attack. three people were injured including spencer. his mother says the gunman slashed him. >> they almost cut his eye out. >> he took the gunman's weapon, and they each credit the others for saving his life. >> i would have been killed if it wasn't for alex.

>> i talked with alex and he said the same thing. he said if it wasn't for spencer i would have been dead. >> local authorities took him into custody. a potentially deadly train ride that ended much differently because of the her row -- heroic efforts of three men. >> he is hospitalized and reportedly doing okay. france's anti-terror unit is now investigating. abc7 news. >> thank you, melanie. a brutal finish to the workweek on wall street. stocks plummeted on fears that china's economy is slowing and because of a dip in oil prices. the dow plunged 530 points. the index lost more than 1,000 points this week alone. the nasdaq lost more than 170 points. the s&p 500 dropped 64. investors worried particularly for those at or near retirement age. >> in the last year or so we had quite a few increases in stock. i hope it didn't take it all away.

>> economists warn the worst thing a person can do is bail out now. >> you have to look through the ups and downs in the market. strategically you should be diversifying your markets. this is blocking and tackling. >> the recent reduction weighed heavily on how the market reacted this week. >> a planned parenthood clinic is accused of harvesting organs from a late term fetus that was aborted and used it for research. the allegations come from a pro-life group called center for medical progress that recorded the clinic in san jose. the group has been posting videos from interviews that planned parenthood claimed to have recorded illegally. the court ruled the anti--abortion videos can be shown publicly. a couple is attacked, they say, by a pack of raccoons. and if it were not for a neighbor who came to their rescue, they believe they may have been injured seriously.

sergio is live in the richmond area. they have a wild story to tell. >> and they don't like going out past 11:00 p.m. in this neighborhood not because they worry about getting mugged, but they worry about a confrontation with raccoons. patty says she and her husband went out on monday night to let their dog get one more walk and that's when the raccoon pounced. >> i started swinging it around. >> then a pack of raccoons attacked. >> i got another one on my other leg. at this point i am looking in the middle of the street and i look for my husband and the raccoons are jumping on him. >> it lasted for a few seconds until their neighbor came to their rescue with the golf club. >> wong says he used his club

to bang on the garbage cans left out for trash collection night. patty suffered several wounds and scratches. they are going through a series of anti-rabies treatments. melanie is an urban wildlife expert and said people shouldn't be worried about raccoons attacking. this is unusual. >> typically the only time they will come in contact with a problem animal again is if somebody has been hand-feeding them and they are used to people or if it is a mom defending young and she feels threatened. >> her that i bores can probably -- neighbors can probably do pour if they lock their garbage cans and stop feeding the raccoons. >> daly city police are on the lookout for an older man who molested a child at a popular mall. a surveillance photo from the shopping center shows the man they are looking for. police said he inappropriately touched a juvenile in the restroom. he is described as 70 to 80 years old and seen driving

away in a silver honda. tonight san francisco police released surveillance video we want to show you to help find six people who attacked a man on a muni bus. this assault happened early morning july 24th on the five bus which was stopped at fulton and masonic. three people punched or smacked the man as they left. one came back on and threw a beer bottle at the victim. police identified one suspect, 18-year-old donald scobi, but he has not been arrested. the nfl season hasn't started and we are seeing turf trouble again at levi stadium in santa clara. why opposing teams are concerned about playing there. katie? >> hi, uh paw. uh -- hi, ama. opposing teams are worried loose sod could lead to injuries. but they pack it to the brink with concerts and nfl games. it appears that replacing sod is the cost of doing business. you just hope it sticks.

taylor swift's two concerts shook the grass right out of the dirt at levi stadium in santa clara. now as the 49ers banners go up, the dallas cowboys are questioning whether the new turf will stay down. >> honestly, i don't know the first thing about grass. >> head coach addressed the concerns. >> every day i walk on fields that are perfect and i have no reason to question him or anything about the grass. i am confident. >> but fans and sports bloggers are more skeptical. >> it is a $1.3 billion stadium, but apparently $1.3 billion does president go as far as it used to. >> money can buy you a nice home, but the lawn is extra. and for some reason it does president stick at levi's. >> they had their first practice and they had to go at half speed because the turf was coming out of the ground. >> the install went well, said management, and they expect a great playing surface on sunday and nearby restaurants expect business to triple. >> we are only a mile from the

here is a view of what is to come 20r78 morning. overcast conditions and looking at the exploratorium from our exploratorium camera. mostly cloudy and mild to warm. it will be a little warmer this upcoming weekend, but we'll have to wait until next week before we return to normal. the quiet pattern is continuing right on through next week with a steady on shore flow. afternoons will feature the sea breeze which will keep you nice and comfortable if you are not a real big fan of hot weather. speaking of heating up, i want to show uh couple of systems. the first is tropical depression kilo. it is packing winds of 35 miles an hour. it is well south for the time being. not for long. it is going to make a track back toward the hawaiian islands and strengthen to a category 1. by wednesday afternoon kauaiy -- kauai could get a dose of rain and swells. you notice the lines here. most are taking it toward kauai.

not all. we'll keep you posted on that. in the atlantic we have a stronger system. it is very compact. it is the first hurricane of the atlantic season. it is packing wind of 110 miles an hour. a category 2. this one will move westward and toward the leeward islands and making its way to san juan puerto rico. it will affect the other areas in the caribbean. tomorrow morning the temperatures are mostly in the mid50s to the low 60s. clouds and a little spotty drizzle. you know the drill. the last few mornings we have had the dampness or feeling of mist and drizzle. 84 in the south bay and gilroy. 80 in san jose tomorrow. 79 santa clara and 77 sunnyvale. on the peninsula, upper 70s and palo alto, redwood city. 73 in san mateo. 78 in loss lossal -- loss altos. 68 downtown san francisco. and if you like it cool, well
