gamma. live doppler 7 showing spotty showers. we'll find out how long this rain will last. wet weather mess, slick roads and sliding hills. a run to remember. an honor for a local victim of gun violence. well, we heard the pitter-patter of rain drops today. it brought problems to the bay area. i'm eric thomas. some areas are in the clear now, but wore not done with the rain just yet. started this morning and we were on 101 in larkspur where a quick downpour made for tricking driving conditions and then we were in burl game where the

ballpark was deserted. and let's head outside live right now. you see the towering clouds right there from our sutro camera, but are we getting a break from the rain? we have live team storm watch coverage with a look at problems. first drew tuma has a look at the wet spots. >> widespread rain this morning brought is soaking across the region and now dealing with spotty showers. we have the tail end of the storm system into the north bay. the heaviest of the rain right now just to the north of santa rosa but a smattering of light showers. richmond, san pablo, light sprinkles and san francisco, one cell just skirting the richmond and sunset district at this hour and around redwood city, you do notice one lone downpour has developed along the peninsula. morning rainfall, a little lighter in the south bay but we

canyon. >> i didn't believe it when i saw it. >> reporter: in san rafael fire crews removed a large tree limb. >> ill see these trees every day and i know they're not the best of shape. but i never thought of one falling on my truck. >> reporter: his german shepherd, max, was trapped inside the truck for a time. max was fine, happy to be free. >> dog seems fine. dog is pretty tough. >> reporter: the golden gate, more like the stormy gate. rain was keeping drivers on alert. slick roads are blamed for this six-car pileup on 280. the accident sent several people to the hospital, including a woman and her baby. one driver said cars hydroplaned on the road. the wrecks snarl el traffic. later the rain moved out as new storm clouds rolled in from the

the officers and people at a nearby party. several officers opened fire. this suspect is expected to survive. a woman died in a shooting just before midnight in west oakland. it happened on 34th and helen street. last night a map was shot near the coliseum. he is expected to survive. police have made no arrests in either case. tomorrow, the oakland police department will welcome its newest class of recruits but with recent sex scandals and arrests there, this group will be much smaller than previous academies. our media partner, the east bay times, reports the department is changing the way it hires and trains officers inch less than one year eight officers were arrested for a variety of crimes. the mayor promised to investigate the department's hiring process. the case rocked local law enforcement agencies but some women say having sex with cops for money is nothing new in the bay area. >> there are times some of these girls are manipulated mentally to the point where they have no

to developing news and a vow from italy's prime minister to rebelled everything after a quake there. a 6.6 magnitude quake struck italy. the earthquake caused damage in a city already hit by deadly earthquake in august, and just wednesday, aftershocks left thousands homeless. today's earthquake damaged historic churches. emergency responder's age to rescue a group of nuns. there are no casualties following today's quake. a race was held today to honor kate steinle, the woman killed last year on san francisco's embarcadero. we were at main street in downtown pleasanton. protests will help athletes with special challenges, a cause close to steinle's heart.

a napa native and astronauts are safely back on earth. a russian space capsule landed yesterday afternoon and they returned to earth after nearly four months in space. the vessel reached 514-miles-an-hour before the parachutes and retrorockets slowed them down, rubens was the first person ever 0 sequence dna in space. more than 250 people learned how to save lives on the peninsula today. we were in burlingame as central county firefighters taught the group cpr. the session was inspired by a burlingame resident who suffered a heat attack. his 14-year-old daughter saved his life when she gave him cpr. >> he kind of started coughing really bad, really hard.

tonight at 11:00 and likely be tracking an isolated shower on doppler. overnight tonight it feels cool, upper 40s to mid-50s. the starting temperatures on your monday. so the halloween forecast, hour-by-hour, little fog in the morning. by noon, overcast and cool. then in the afternoon, into the evening, we are tracking scattered showers moving through. so bring back the storm impact scale. the next storm tomorrow is light, one, scatters showers and very light rainfall. the issue is the timing of the system is coming in the evening when a lot of us will be trying to get the candy. mid-day, cloud cover, mainly dry. into the afternoon, first that the north bay will likely see she showers. glasgow the -- going through the evening hours, 6:00 and anyone is fair game for a shower, and then the system will sink to the south. would it cancel my trick-or-treating plans? no, because getting candy is
